Nice. I went to an American-style karate dojo when I was in late high school, we had 8 kyu. It went: 8th kyu: White 7th kyu: Yellow 6th kyu: Green (as far as I actually got before transferring to a different club in college) 5th kyu: Blue (I was eligible to test for this but I missed the test date) 4th kyu: Purple 3th kyu: Brown 2nd kyu: Brown 1st kyu: Brown Dan: Black Though there are pics of my old shihan wearing a belt that alternates between white and red, I've seen a lot of high-ranking yudansha (like 7th dan and above) in American karate styles wear that.
