Marvellous! A lesson in how to live if you're very very rich... I respect his integrity and passion. And so great to hear the late George's voice narrating. Thank you for the upload!!!!

The last heir to the Medici fortune spend his wealth far more reckless than Edward James.I think the manner in which Edward spend his fortune are quite noble and virtuos.I would be quite proud,if i was Edward's father.........

I worked for Edward James for a year or two and lived at monkton for the majority. (driver/companion)....it was great and we were friends...not intimate, unless you consider swimming and sauna-ing naked intimate, it was a good laugh, we had the greatest time confounding the attempts of his affair meddling associates. my speciality, which he seemed to appreciate enthusiastically :-))

gaby quiroz, shame on you. the people from Xilitla, have been living there forever. and survive because they work hard . cofee , fruit and the Huateca by itself its enough to live and visit the place. its a beautiful part of the Huasteca Potosina. they were there centuries before James Edwards

At first one is inclined to thinking what a wealthy indulgent, self-absorbed dreamer. Then, we see his sponsorship of that 1930s ballet with the associated legendary names of art and dance albeit expensively paid for to win back his estranged wife is a fairytale of passion like none other. Again, with his sponsorship he will have assisted the surrealists a great deal of which work is glorious particularly, for me, René Magritte's ironic work. A large institutional framed print of Dali's thought-provoking Christ of St. John of The Cross hung in my UK school chapel and in childhood it was always moving on sitting staring opposite at that religious Dali during Sunday Chapel. Edward James’s indulgent wealthy rich dreamy life played out as it did was not entirely a selfish life. His extraordinary folly building supplied employment to the mexican locals for example. And, then there was his foundation for the teaching of traditional arts and crafts. Thanks :-)

incidentally, the 'button velvet/cosy' ref wasn'tt the entire story. he commissioned Dali to do out the drawing room. he put up the velvet, but it was rigged up to a pneumatic machanism that in & de flated moving the decor in and out. also a tape recorder activated simultaneously with the sound of an ill dog breathing. this was to create the impression of being inside a ill dog's stomach!?! (Dali to the max!) It was too much even for him but had to grin and bear it... ha ha, a classic!!

J'taime little film, however it would be untrue to describe the film as having no other outing than when it was first seen on ITV. It was shown in 1986 possibly on C4 when the EJ trustees threatened to sell Monkton so 'middle class folks can attend courses on making corn dollies' with an impassioned plea by George Melly not to do so in the new introduction. This appearance is most welcome as I now see that the 1986 broadcast was edited. Monkton was eventually sold through Pereds of Holland park
