I didn't even connect this! But then again, like another said, the aristocracy is all related somewhere down the genetic line. The Monarchies alone...all connected. Even the Queen Consorts' great, great-grandmother had an affair with the King at the time. She was his official mistress. Crazy stuff. Her name was Alice Kepple.

I’m sure she felt suffocated being a woman with a passionate personality and so few options. As you said, upper class wives were supposed to have a quiet and retiring life. She clearly made some terrible choices, but she also truly suffered.

The poor girl might have been borne into wealth and privilege but at that time, a girl had no other prospects in life but to marry the man her parents chose for her. And once married, she was supposed to bear his children and keep her mouth shut. Be pretty and be seen but not heard. The husband on the other hand, had all the rights. He controlled the money and owned the woman completely. Marital abuse was common but not spoken about. A wife had to endure her fate.

👍💯❤. I was interested when I heard the name Spencer. Duchess Georgiana Cavendish might had a strange but amazing woman, who went through a lot but overcame. Showing how bold and strong she was. So her husband could have outside children, but she had to leave once again because of that. It took moxie to stand up to being talked about and strong not to let it bother her. She did pass that Boldness and Courage on to Princess,Lady Diana.👍👏👏👏. Both did go through some things. Sad they both died young. Different circumstances but both died much too young. Both were loving mothers. I admire Both Women. Princess Diana is still loved to this day. She earned the title the People Princess. I'm 💯% Positive Duchess Georgiana Cavendish would been proud of Diana. Both left a mark in History.🥰. I'm sure Princess Diana knew this story and probally was Inspired by it. Charles did not ever gave up Carmilla when they got married anyone would act out if their own husband decided to behave like that I personally think that as soon as Charles got married to Diana Carmilla should of stopped seeing him to give the marriage a chance to work out. Georgians husband was really mean as well he should of loved her and shown her a bit more respect to her he should of realised that all she really wanted was the love and respect from her husband. I guess we all see "suffering", differently. I don't hear any suffering until she becomes blind and towards her death, from illness. I suppose if I knew more about her "suffering" from alcoholism as opposed to a woman that liked to drink a lot. It doesn't seem she lost her possessions, homes, clothing, although she owed money. It sounds to me like she was a woman who did what she wanted and got away with it until she was separated from her last child.

Lady Georgiana Cavendish. Her husband was having an affair with Lady Elizabeth Foster, among her addiction to alcohol and gambling. I don't understand WHY she let Bess do all this... Were they really friends when she was committing Adultery with her husband? Bess sounds VERY scheming, I honestly think she was just using her for money. Among other things, its just very odd. I would say that BASICALLY she is like the 18th century equivalent of Princess Diana.
