That shot when they were playing while appearing as just silhouettes with the setting sun shining brightly in the background is just magical. The realization that even though he didn't get what he came for at his journey's end, what he gained in the process is that much more significant. This scene man. It's just pure beauty.

Man that scene! I'll admit it, I tear up at movies every now and then. However it's never been "sad" parts that get me, for some reason it's the happy, joyful scenes that affect me. This movie, forget the script, acting, etc. The cinematography in it produces some of the muddy beautiful scenes I can remember. From the scene in the beginning when he's running in the Life offices in New York, jumping from the helicopter in Greenland, skateboarding down the long hill in Iceland (which BTW, next to Ireland is the must beautiful country you can EVER visit, I highly recommend it for a vacation spot, and it's much closer than you think especially if you live in the Northeastern US), and this scene of the soccer game with the sunsetting on the Himalayas are absolutely transcendental. The term "breathtaking" which I find to be WAY overused (like genius and hero) is absolutely fitting for this movie. I first saw it on a 60" high def with my friends crazy $30,000 analog tube driven surround sound system LITERALLY knocked the wind out of me a few times. Along with the flawless soundtrack, I find myself hiding my face a few times in the attempt to surreptitiously wipe the tears streaming down my face. The reviews are a mixed bag. In this case I say; DAMN the reviews! I'm as cynical as they come, but this movie did more for my mood and outlook than 6 months of any therapy would have.

My sentiments exactly, Tim. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.What an amazing piece of cinema. The thing I like about the soccer scene is that they all look like they're genuinely having fun - not just doing it for the scene. The sunset is gorgeous and makes me want to go to Iceland/Greenland. What beautiful landscapes. Ben Stiller did a great job starring in and directing it. I have the soundtrack and I highly recommend it. The last scene really gets me - what a great way to end the movie. I'm so glad I have the DVD to watch when I need pick me up!

I remember how much this movie changed my outlook on life. And honestly at first I felt it would be impossible, cause of money and time restrictions I set on myself. The reality is, you don’t even have to go far away to enjoy life. I learned simply taking small moments and small trips to more local areas was more than enough to have me going out and enjoying what this world has to offer. You don’t need to take a trip to other side of the world. There’s a lot close to us that we overlook. Obviously, I have plans to one day go further away on a more distant trip, but you don’t have to hold yourself back by aiming for that to start with if you feel you can’t. Work your way up. Small trips first then proceed to making bigger trips further away. If you’re lucky to be able to go off far and away from the get go, then more power to you, go out and enjoy the world we live in.

A hidden message in this scene: at the end of the footage, as the sun sets a group of birds flew by, which contrasts an earlier scene where Walter Mitty was riding a bike along the highway in Iceland, he saw a group of birds flying and he imagined the face of Cheryl Melhoff in the birds and hit a pole, wrecking his bike. But here he no longer sees delusional pattern in the birds, because he was truly enjoying life, enjoying the moment, so a group of birds appeared as what they were - just a group of birds, but not his romantic obsession. I guess the moral of the story is to let go of your obsession and live your life fully, then everything will be better.

dont think this was really hidden. as you watch the movie, his dreams become fewer and fewer. was the entire point of the movie. you're 100% right to the moral of the story. when we live life we don't have to dream about living life.

There’s a nice life lesson in this scene that made me tear up. Walter was worried about this leopard photo and capturing the moment and I can only imagine how bad he felt about having thrown away that photo. But Sean simply says “It’s a ghost cat.” It’s from here that he goes and just experiences life without worry, fear, or contemplation of the fear. Amidst that he finds true strength. In the end everything does work out, and the wallet is recovered! Moral of the story, enjoy your life and stop worrying about this and that. God called us all to do more than just worry When we trust in him we can know that everything is going to alright. This scene really spoke to me and it’s been beautiful to see how much it’s affected everyone else as well. Have a beautiful day guys!

THE MOST UNDERRATED MOVIE IN HISTORY! So Moving and Beautiful!
@Sentinel-40K3 жыл бұрын
There are two beautiful points of this scene that resonate with me. The first is Penn's forgoing the Holy Grail of shots in favor of being "stuck in" in the moment. It's a beautiful idea that reminds me of people staring through their cell phones at an event instead of the event itself. I no longer video my kid with my phone. I drop it so I can take in the moment. Those are the memories that I want to take with me. The soccer scene is amazing because it is humanity at its finest. In those spontaneous moments, we realize that we are more similar to each other than different. Our trajectory as humans although different from one person to the next, ends up at the same place. Just a breathtaking scene all the way around.

I will be 50 years old this year... and the memories that stick with me the most aren't birthdays or weddings or promotions or awards.... they are moments of pure peace: skiing across a frozen lake in Labrador.... lying by a glacial lake in the Rockies watching the sun set.... sharing a drink with my wife on a sailboat anchored in a quiet Caribbean cove.... skiing back to my chalet in the evening on an empty run while big, soft flakes fall all around us.... Enjoy your life. Eat, drink and be merry. Party. Make love. Dance and sing... but don't forget those moments when your mind is stilled and you can just BE.... Don't forget that there are a million beautiful moments waiting to be discovered. I love this movie... and if they spent 20 minutes of it watching Walter ride a long board down a road in Iceland, I would love it even more.

The first time I saw this scene I cried a lot I don't travel a lot but I do have the urge once in a while but my major dest like Iceland,swizzy,japan,new Zealand, etc so I'm still working on the money stuff When sean said "That looks like fun" something inside me hurt a lot, it's not the great things it's always the ones that we feel as to be fun and we always don't feel like making an effort and enjoy them since its a common conception that sacrificing smaller things lead to great things which aren't absolutely correct This movie opened my eyes and made me realize what I have and how we can make a way to not compromise things for what we want to achieve Make the extra mile and be content with what you are left with cause life is short but when we whine it's just worthless so try again until you get there Ben Stiller gave this world such a wonderful film and I hope the people who watch this lead their utmost life

By far the absolute awesomest soccer scene ever put to film! Just goes to show you don't need shaky camera and screaming and craziness to make a good scene! In fact, you sometimes need the opposite. You need beautiful, slow shots, silence and great soundtrack to make a great scene sometimes. Different if it's a thriller chase scene, though, that's what I mean by sometimes.

@JÆK.02 Жыл бұрын
I watched this movie for the first time about 2 weeks ago, and I can confidently say this is one of my favorite scenes in all of cinema. The dynamic between Walter and Sean is beautiful. Sean lives in the moment, while Walter is too concerned with what was and what will be. This idea of control and concern over external things still holds Walter back, even this far into the film. Ultimately, at this point, what can Walter do about throwing away the picture? Nothing, so there's no sense in worrying about it. Even though the (subjectively) bad event of losing the photo sent him on this amazing journey, Walter is still too concerned with his initial mistake and doing his job to appreciate all the good things that came from it. Meanwhile, Sean chose to ignore the camera and his job to live in the moment of seeing a beautiful and rare snow leopard in person, something that most people won't ever experience in their whole lives. Despite completely missing the photo, he doesn't seem all that disappointed. He forgives it and moves on. Too many of us are sucked into our phones, computers, and TV and have lost sight of how to live in the moment. We have so much digital shit and mush shoveled at us from the news, streaming sites, and social media every day at such a fast rate that we have a hard time slowing down anymore. We seek our experiences vicariously now by watching other people lead superficially extraordinary lives through a bunch of pixels when, in reality, they are only picking and choosing specific blips out of the entire canvas of their (likely mediocre) life to share. So much effort poured into trying to impress a bunch of strangers online when they could just put the phone down and live in the moment, finding fulfillment there and enriching their souls. Now, I'm not just trying to be a cliche and bash phones and social media and all that. I recognize they can be fine in moderation. Still, many people, including me and the rest of my Zoomer generation, aren't very good at moderating it. I'm taking a much better inventory of how much time I spend on my phone now, as well as how I choose to perceive the things that happen to me daily. This movie makes me want to pursue happiness and a more fulfilling life. I hope it does the same for some of you.

I would go further than that: what this scene is talking about is something very ancient, timeless. Humans have been on this journey of realization for thousands and thousands of years (maybe even longer than that, who knows what the true history of this planet is).
