"Never before seen way to activate quick play spells from hand during opponents turn..." Magical Musketeers: "Gonna pretend I didn't hear that."

This is one of my favorite things about Yu-gi-oh. Other card games do it too, but the often have flavor text on top of the effects. Yu-gi-oh has to tell the stories through effects and card relationships. Archtypes are a given, and lore arcs like Albaz and Visas generally have whole cards which explain the lore, but are other wise not really playable. Even still there are more details to find. Spirit monsters return to hand because they can't remain in the living plane. Suships are all toppings for Shari. Shari is necessary for all the plays, and their Continuous spell has your opponent select a topping for a ship after you first give them the chef's recommendation. It even has your opponent pay the bill. This seems like a good series to continue. I'll be keeping my eye out.
Thank you! The whole time I was like “what about magical musket?

Runick: Legends of the Generaiders
@MrIsleNFair10 ай бұрын
Without Generaider on context, I always thought Runick as the "Generic isekai Main Character with OP cheat". The first-person artwork in the spell cards tells us that "we are the MC". Then I look Runick Fountain's effect as that "cheat regeneration skill". All the ED monsters are like generic isekai partners (Fairy, pet dog, etc.). To top it off, generic isekai MC is commonly that obnoxious, "Oo i didn't realize I am OP" type of attitude, and runick effects insufferably banishing cards whilst avoiding battle phase is accurate. TL;DR : If runick was a generic cheap Isekai manga / LN, it would go with "I was Summoned into Nordic-Culture Otherworld with Multi-Elemental Sacred Weapons and Quick Mana Regeneration Cheat Skill, so I Exhaust Enemies Mana Instead of Direct Battle".
@GaussianEntity9 ай бұрын
The funny thing is that the MC is technically fighting you as the opponent. The deal is that the MC does damage via a concept known as "life-decking", which essentially is using the number of cards in your deck as HP, hence why you die via deckout rather than via damage. There's a video essay somewhere on here that discusses the concept in card games and why it's not implemented all that much due to how annoying it is for players.

One of my fav ones is the super quant cards based on supersentai/power rangers. A fav deck of mine, the mechanic is that you can sum a super quant xyz on top of their same colored ranger meaning he got on its zord, then all of their effects become quick if their corresponding ranger is attached to them cause they know how to use their sword better, and the zords cant attack without material cause theres no pilot inside. Then they can attach a ranger from hand or field meaning the pilot came back inside. Then when you over lay the boss you need 3 of the 4 xyz monsters to sum him meaning the swords actually combined into one. In my opinion super quants is the archetype that best adapted its source material to effs. Including how support was the 6th ranger introduced later in the season and the link is the megazord now including the 6th rangers zord.

The real question here is: while all of these event happen, where tf is Harr? He isn't in any card art except his own, his crows help the enemy, and the fountain has his own eye. Where is he?
@Murasane9 ай бұрын
i think loptr is actually tricking you and harr is the one whos actually trying to help you in the journey but idk
@drewbabe9 ай бұрын
I get the feeling that the twist will be that the quest exists to either let Harr or someone else take control by getting the other bosses out of the way in some power struggle, OR it is supposed to make the player grow stronger and go mad with power until they become a new Generaider. The latter seems more in line with typical YGO storylines and also would explain why Loptr and Harr, who *should* be your enemies, seem to be involved with helping you on your quest instead.
@Jigundus9 ай бұрын
@@drewbabeI agree. Munin and Hugin are the companions of the main character from Runick, and are the Ravens that accompany Odin. Harr is the Generaider stand in for Odin, so it is entirely plausible that the main character *is* Harr since he’s the only Generaider without a Runick spell showing his defeat. Laevatein is Loptr, so maybe after defeating the other Generaiders and becoming one, Loptr reveals he was just helping you to become more powerful and betrays you. Curious to see how Vala and Jorm fit into this, hopefully both will get future support (Generaider needs it more than Runick tbh, give them some better spell/traps and potentially another ED monster).

The fact that both the Runick Fountain and Harr have a single glowing red eye implies a connection, and it's the opposite eye too, almost implying that Harr's using his left eye to remotely view you through the Fountain. I don’t understand how so much love, care and attention went into this archetype from a lore/design perspective yet the cards themselves were so underbaked. I love Runick combo decks - but there’s no shot in hell that the design team intended for these cards to be used as a way to synchro climb into Baronne using Guiding Quem or Naturia Camelia, and I can’t imagine the design team envisioned them as an advantage engine in Stun that draws you into/protects your 15 floodgates. The deck seems to be designed as a dedicated mill strategy intended to be played pure, but the cards in a vacuum just… don’t.. do very much? Like how do you design a deck where your big power plays are your archetypal versions of MST, Chalice and Offerings To The Doomed? And why do they all have hard once per turns??? Why deprive the deck of an in-archetype wincon, but make the cards generic enough to be used as flexible extenders in Fur Hire and Ghoti? I have a blast playing Runick variant, but every time I try a new one my immediate thought is “well this isn’t what Konami intended, is it?”. Somewhere out there, there’s an alternative universe where these cards didn’t need to be paired with another archetype or engine to compete, and gained actually viable effects in exchange for the fountain draws/hugin protection to only be live if all cards you control are runicks.
@AristasTheMonsterHunter10 ай бұрын
If they make it generic, then it IS intended. They're more than capable of cutting the legs and arms of cards if they want to make them avarage, look how many cards and archetypes are wasted just by having stupid conditions. Runick was supposed to be speshable, otherwise it would have had limitations on summoning and effects activations; and let's be real, even without the effects being HOP it would have been utter garbage.
@drewbabe9 ай бұрын
It couldn't have been more intended. They literally printed a deck that's full of Instant Fusions. What on earth did you think Instant Fusion was used for during its legality? They also fully intended it to have synergy with Xyz strategies, given that most of the ED monsters are levels that are normal summonable. And while one of the two that aren't level 4 or lower is level 5, kinda awkward to work with, the other is level 9 and goes great with the Generaider Xyz bosses by obvious design. (Honestly I think Freki only exists to help you make a level 10 synchro with a yokai girl hand trap normal summon, but idk.) What's more surprising is that the deck has the alt win condition of deckout with BP lockout as the drawback. Avoiding battle is not a very "RPG protagonist" thing to do. But maybe the twist, lorewise, is that this obnoxiousness is meant to make you grow powerful in an evil way, which is why Loptr and Harr seem to be behind the whole thing. Or maybe it's supposed to be, like, trying to survive a boss' attack pattern until they run out of steam, idk. Or maybe it's not lore connected at all and is just the way they balanced the deck around the fact that it's full of Instant Fusions... the only other way I could see it being balanced is if they took out Fountain entirely while also taking out the BP lockout and milling, so that the cards don't recur so the 1-for-1 trades they are don't give you advantage, and then make it so that you could only summon a Runick ED monster once per turn using one of the spells. That probably doesn't go well with the story they're trying to tell, so...
@nael_luna7 ай бұрын
The lore connection is genuinely amazing... only thing I don't like about runick is how it banishes from the top of my deck and how much fountain is... a stupid card, draw 3 for free and cast spells whenever Amazing connection/representation of the game abilities, it's just so bothering to play against

Very well made video, but you mentioned Fountain was the first way to activate quickplay spells from your hand during your opponent's turn. Ebon High Magician exists, and he was the first to allow you to activate quick play spells (and traps! ) from hand, at the cost of detaching a material. Just thought I'd point it out.
