INCREDIBLE!!! That's the best 8 minutes of instruction to understand the feeling of the swing I've ever scene. Using two of the best golf ball strikers ever, simular sport athletes and your own mechanic's for a resounding confirmation for great movement. Milo is always teaching the same swing, but giving us new and different ways to feel and think about it. If you're good at a different swinging sport, then learning how the golf swing is like some movement from that grooved, confident swing can be the key to unlock your athleticism in the golf swing. I love that Milo don't care how he gets us get there as long as he gets us there!

The interesting thing about the right elbow at impact is that it only gives the illusion of having been independently driven forward in the downswing. This is because the effect of rib cage / hip rotation is being missed. If you isolate the right elbow, 3D imaging shows at impact it's actually behind it's address position relative to the rib cage. To prove this to yourself, create a good impact position, then without changing the position of the club, wrists and arms, return to address posture (bring your hips and rib cage from the open position of impact back to the square position of address). If you do this correctly, you'll see the club is about 18" behind the ball and right elbow is a few inches behind its position at address. The only reason the right elbow appears forward is the rotation of the hips and rib cage. It's ironic, but the more a player tries to drive the right elbow forward independently in the downswing and through impact, the more they're going to shut down hip/rib cage rotation through the ball. The right elbow should lag behind and be pulled (towed, as Milo says) around by the rib cage, not be driven across it.

It totally makes sense. I've been working really hard of keeping my right wrist bent in a downswing because I was getting rid of the angle too early. And one thing I noticed is my body has to turn and let the hands and arms follow in order to help keep the right wrist bent back

Hi Milo there may be a better way. Since our trail trigger index finger in connection to both hands and wrists are what actually turns our trail elbow inwards; I take the following measures At setting up to my ball bending forward I simply preset my trail elbow rolling it inward towards my stomach just enough as to not disturb my grip as well as my club head laying perpendicular to my ball. I then simply swing my club back with my arms and shoulders which moves my hips and legs automatically. At the transitional part of my swing I specifically use the trail index trigger finger of my right hand to throw my club head down to and through the ball exiting left to a classic finish of my swing. The trail overhand throwing specifically using my trail trigger finger brings my trail elbow back into its slot along my stomach line and the centripetal force of my club head does the rest. Cheers 🥂👍😊

As a kid growing up in Canada in the 60s and 70s I was an avid hockey player, and I was enamored with the slap shots practiced by Bobby Hull, Guy Lafleur and Bobby Orr, among others. I would practice my slapper every time I would get to the outdoor rink across the street from where we lived. I got pretty good at it from all the practice I put into it. Years later when learning the golf swing it didn't take me all that long to develop a good golf swing, and after watching this video I now see where I got the ability to hit a golf ball. I also had a decent baseball swing back in the day.

I've able to somewhat reproduce that feel at slower pace and what makes it work is that I "feel" like I'm turn steering counter-clockwise going back which then causes the tension in the arms/wrists/shoulders to "spring" back the other way at the top and shallows out automagically... NOt sure if that's the right way of visualizing it but I'm getting closer.. Just need to resist temptation to swing at my usual 110% or I revert back. Fighting my brain more than anything. ;)

This feel seems to help with all of those things. It does feel like the club is wide open though coming in from P5 to P6, do you ever experience that? Trackman is reading it as a straight ball flight, so I'm going to stick with it!

For many the feeling of the center of mass laying down feels like it’s opening the face but if the wrists are working correctly, it’s not actually opening relative to the ark of the swing
it's kinda funny to me seeing you analyze a shot in hockey because i played so much of it from about 5 years old up into my 30's. we never put any thought into it but learned by watching my older brother and the other kids, you had the puck, see the net and shoot. then along comes golf and we have to put it under a microscope analyze it to be able to hit the ball. i could never figure that out why it is so hard to be good at.

Love all these 'new' instructors who have unknowingly been teaching moe norman moves are now discovering his genius. The 'shallowing of the clubhead' is pure Moe Norman. He described the feeling as putting the clubhead in his pocket. Apparently, Hogan and Norman got this from Ted Williams. As shown in this video great baseball hitters understand this. There are lots of ways to swing a club this is my preferred option because it is how hitters hit in every other hitting activity from swinging an axe to a bat or racquet. Milo great video and just subscribed to your website. Understand the basic point about the right arm relative to the left arm in the downswing but looking at the Ben Hogan swing you posted, it seems to me that something more is at work there. About midway into the downswing, Hogan's golf shaft seems to suddenly steepen suggesting, to me, that he is dong something with his arms (hands) to make the club tumble out (relatively) compared to your or Norman's swing. Again, this is a "FEELING" not reality. I get it. But you can't look at this as anything you should consciously be doing in the swing. If your Grip is fundamentally correct, the hinge will facilitate good release of the club head. The wrists do NOT really hang back that long. Look up mike malaska's video on tipping the club. It is much more useful to understand how the hinge works in the swing and how to not lose the club behind you, and maintaining leverage on the club, while allowing the hands and arms to FALL into the "slot". You should never feel like you're pulling it from the top. The ONLY form of pulling you should try to feel is your body weight... pulling the shoulders, arms, hands and club into contact. If you maintain the proper hinge, the rest should take care of it's self. There's a fine line between firmness and tension. The tension in your arms needs to be removed before you turn away from the ball. If you tried to hold off the release like this video is telling you, you will launch everything to the right.... just like in the intro of the video, you see this guy blast one way out to the right. If you can FEEL like you keep the trail elbow in front of the trail hip, make a full turn while utilizing a proper hinge, with the correct tempo and pressures from the ground, send the proper transition of weight from the ball of the trail foot, back (and to the left) into the Heel of the front foot. This will facilitate a clearing of the left hip, and in doing so, if the connection is maintained in the hinge, the hands, arms, and the head of the club, come down to the back of the ball with very little rotation. the rotation that causes you to face the target at the end of the swing is a result of the club taking you through to the finish. you should never try to hold off the release.

A *supinated lead wrist* into impact. Mr Hogan emphasized this as much, if not more than any other point throughout his books. Pair this with his "three right hands" and it's nearly impossible not to flush the ball all day long. And the real magic is when you combine it all with the tensionless transition Milo discussed. Oh and the secret sauce is a very simple reach away and up as your takeaway. I know the one plane low and slow muscular approach is en vogue since Tiger, but in my experience the two plane approach is so much more body friendly and productive. And it just looks so better too.

Milo, As you are probably aware, I'm a 71 year old Aussie dude who has been following your coaching for a while. I have implemented this move and it's had a profound effect on my game. I wonder if we can take advantage of each other! I had placed a bet at my club Nov.2023 that I would get to Single figures by Nov.2024I was 21 hcp at the time. I have had health issues and played and won a board event that soaked up precious weeks and I'm still down to 13.9. I need to focus on getting my short Irons closer to the pin!!! Do you think we can we work together somehow? Thanks. J.L.

Sure thing, I have an online academy which includes monthly analysis and our program, and can do virtual lessons. My website has all the details for this: milolinesgolf.com.

No, I meant deeper than that. You don't come across too many 71 year Olds with a terminal illness playing off 21hcp and declaring and achieving a Single figures HCP with in 12months.

For me personally I have a similar feel. I like to feel that the toe never overtakes the heel of the club. It may look like it's wide open, but for me, it's just square. I use my pivot to square it up, and I feel like I can turn as hard and fast as I want. Keeping the hands quiet is essential. I focus on the hands and arms just raising and lowering the club. When you get it, I promise you will hit it like never before. See ya'll on tour in the future

So what you say is basically the opposite of Mike Malaska who also refers a lot to baseball. Would love to see a video of the 2 of you together.

Yes, there certainly is a lot more happening. The upper part of the right arm has to move on the path that the right side of the body moves on, in the transition, to create an early connection. It is very notable that Babe Ruth fully activates the "inside muscles" in the forearm of his trail arm. And, this creates movement. And, really, the golf swing is a muscle and not a movement. But, golf is unique in that we can fully fuse the hands in the transition, which activates the inside muscles; and, enables us to sync up.
@MiloLinesGolf2 ай бұрын
Interesting comment. Babe Ruth has a pretty good golf swing as well.
@DASH1ful2 ай бұрын
@@MiloLinesGolf Yes, that was the first time I've ever seen Babe Ruth play baseball. He obviously had colossal power. And, there is a lot we can take from him; but, golf is unique in that we can go deep in the backswing. And, this has to be key. Other than Tommy Armour, who became a US citizen, the most enduring of golf teachers, here in the UK, would have to be John Jacobs. He compared the turn to a door opening and shutting. I had an impromptu lesson off John twice; and, I could not do a single thing he told me. Then, to confound my misery, I was given an impromptu lesson from a tour player who he taught, who told me do the exact same thing. John was right in principle; but, he had the hinges very high up on the door and he had no lower hinges on the door. And, if we don't have any lower hinges on our swing door we won't just restrict our turn we will compress our heart and lungs. Our swing door has to have hinges not just at the bottom of the door; but all the way down the bottom of the door. The left side of the right leg has to push the body around and work in tandem with the left chest. The leg assists the chest to turn. But, also, the swing door should be slightly ajar. The lower left part of the neck should push back at address. This offsets the head to the right, at address; and greatly assists the turn.

Thanks Milo for another great video in a stream of videos that have led me to transform my swing in a couple of months - would it be okay if I pasted the link to my 8-min YT video here where I hit some shots and demonstrate a couple of drills? It's entitled "Body Rotation in Golf Swing to Propel Clubhead to Ball with Lag and Zero Club Shaft Twist + Drills". I'll wait to hear from you - thanks!

I'm guessing you have a two or three knuckle lead hand grip. If you set up with the clubface looking way left and then swing it open on the way down. Your body will respond in the same exact way with the window.
@justinanderson99726 ай бұрын
You're so close but you're missing the one move is a horizontal press towards the target That's actually the first move that press is what actually moves everything in front of you Moe Norman said it was a vertical drop with a horizontal tug Ben Hogan you can see moves towards the tart moves his back towards the target to bring the elbow down into position to slide past itself their first move is always with the back moving towards the target to set the pendulum

This move is absolutely clutch. I’ve been able to replicate it but I need pointers like the feels you mention so it becomes natural and more consistent. A lot of the longest players on tour like Min Woo Lee have that same window open with the trail arm well below the lead arm, produces tremendous width and speed.

The majority of neurons of the motor and sensory cortex are concentrated in the face and hands. Ref Dr Penfield, McGill University Ie whatever our intent for our face(tongue) and hands the other body parts support by keeping us upright(autonomic balance) and to prevent injury. For complex chain action movement, a singular intention initiates the orchestration of body parts. From top of BS through impact is less than 1/4 second. A time frame impossible to control body parts consciously. We can only initiate the complex chain action by a singular intention. That intention for Ben Hogan, Moe Norman, George Knudson and Lee Trevino was to supinate the dominant trial hand from top of BS through impact. ie turn right palm to face the sky. Elbows, weight shift, hip movement are all to support the singular intention. REF motor and sensory homunculus.
@MiloLinesGolf Жыл бұрын
Training the hands is important for sure but there is definitely a place for working on moving their rest of the body well too.
@dtgps Жыл бұрын
You dont understand. The body supports the intent we have for our hands. Suggest you google homunculus, Dr Penfield No human can consciously control, train body parts during a complex chain action that happens in less than 1/4 second. it is not humanly possible and when/if we try we override what is rightly for our subconscious, we open ourselves to creating more complex issues with our subconscious. Please stop the madness.@@MiloLinesGolf
