The Secret of Monkey Island SE Canon Ending

This is the canon / true ending of the Secret of Monkey Island SE story based on what happens within the plot of the 4th game in the Monkey Island series titled "Escape from Monkey Island".
Note: If you would like to compare this canon ending to the other alternative ending that I filmed in my walkthrough videos at • The Secret of Monkey I... , you may watch Part 17 from 5:57 to 7:09 (where I hit the banana tree instead of the ship). Then if you watch Part 22 from 8:17 to 10:53 , you will see how it affected the dialog. Finally, watch part 23 "Wedding Crashers" from 8:05 to the end and you will see the other ending for the SoMI. I always felt kinda sorry for the crew so I always let them let them find Guybrush and the skeleton ghost and they go back to Melee and allow the skeleton ghost who was also a friend of theirs go with them. And I thought it was funny with him saying “Never pay more than 20 bucks for a computer game”. Especially since Herman was in Monkey Islands 2 and 4 and he looked exactly the same.

Yes, this is the ending used by the story of Escape from Monkey Island. The trio were so scarred by this ending, Guybrush later on have to bribe Otis and Carla using 'cushy' government jobs, with a desk. Knowing Monkey Island, it's probably upholstering furnitures. Paid 3x the private sector, sits all day, and no one checks on your works.

But if so then Herman Toothrot most likely would’ve looked different in the second and fourth games like new clothes. He said in the fourth game he vaguely remembered Dinky Island and wondered how he ended up there which is when Guybrush Threepwood told him there was a tunnel that lead between both Monkey and Dinky Islands.

I forgot, there are 2 different endings, I remember doing both. I would always love destroying the ship with my annoying, lazy crew on there, lol!

This is the main ending, because at the start the rock catapult is pointed at the ship, so you're likely going to hit it the first time you use it. To not hit it you have to move the catapult before pushing the rock, meaning you have to do one little extra thing, making this a slightly easier ending. In MI4 in fact this is revealed to be the canonical ending... Of course that game also ignores Herman Toothrot's story from his diary in this game, so it pretty much messes up with the story anyway, so who knows.

KrossoverGod Correct. This is the default ending if the player did a trial and error method, didn't backtrack on his save file, and do it 'correctly'. As for Herman Toothrot. In the Captain's diary inside the ship Guybrush bought (Sea Monkey), the name of the First Mate is "Herman Toothrot". However the Captain's name wasn't mentioned. So Horatio could've been the Captain (going treasure hunting and boat racing at the same time), meanwhile Herman was the corpse above the pond (it was pre-ESRB). That giant monkey robot is a little bit too big to be shoehorned though. Considering a giant monkey skeleton was seen in the first game.

Toothrot IS Horatio Marley, he ends up getting his memories back in Escape From Monkey Island when hit on the head.

XTheVideoGamerGirlX Yeah, that's what I'm saying: he gets his memories back, and tells his backstory mirroring what told in MI2 and MI3 about Elaine's grandfather, however it ignores what was told about Herman Toothrot's backstory in MI1, how he was aboard the ship and arrived on Monkey Island and all that stuff. I mean before MI4 they were considered two different characters, so they had different backstories. In the fourth game they decided to make them one and the same, but only aknowledged HT Marley's story from MI2 and 3, and ignored Herman's from MI1. Of course fans are always coming up with ways to concile the two backstories, but the creators never did.

Well... Technically speaking, at least in the eyes of Ron Gilbert, neither 3, 4 or 5 are cannon. He planned a final game for his trilogy where the secret of monkey island would be revealed. A secret only Ron Gilbert knows. I will never forgive lucasarts for letting him go, but I do enjoy the non-cannon game a lot aswell.

How do you not sink the ship. Every time I played island ways hit the ship before it would hit the tree

For help (visual guidance) with this, you may wish to watch part 17 of my walkthrough from 5:40 through 6:22 During the part 17 video, you will see how I first adjusted / turned the angle of the catapult (log with a rock). Next, I climbed up and dropped the rock (from up high) to cause the catapult (below) to sling / launch the rock at the banana tree instead of the ship. Note: the url (video link) where you may watch the part 17 walkthrough video can be found within the "Read More" video description for this "The Secret of Monkey Island SE Alternate Ending" video. i AGREE this is the true and CANON ending because otis and carla appear in MI4 saying it took them ages to get off the the island LOL, sure u can make it go other ways but thsi is the one that makes sense with the later games. although the only part i change is i make guybrush kill bob caue he is a ghost after all, and herman still apears if u do it right
