If anyone enjoyed and found this video helpful, here's another one discussing game sense to highlight mechanics: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZWpaoaGeZmpj9U

this video is honestly uncannily similar to my gameplay around 7 months ago so its definitely nice to hear that there even is such a thing as "TOO good positioning (9:20)" 100% gonna use this advice going into my next scrims 🙏 I remember always seeing people either in scrims or rank b 6mans getting mechanical plays off every other play who didnt have much better mechs than me, whereas I would only get the opportunity to pull off smth mechy 5-7 times a game and I feel like this video will really help me get more chances to use my mechs in 3s.

@0verload-i8d For sure! I'm glad you resonated with the video. Generally speaking, if you're a control-based player (think air dribbles, resets, etc.), then you have to give yourself enough space to execute. You can totally be mechanical "close to the play," but it's tougher to do so, where your quantity and quality of opportunities go down. Thanks for adding some of your own insights-cheers!

3:30 Very important distinction that I don't hear enough people make. Just because a play didn't succeed doesn't mean it's bad in principle. Don't stop going for it altogether, _fix_ it

Your analysis is on point. I've never been a very mechanical player, but I always focused on positioning and being smart on opportunities. Those tips you gave makes a player go a long way, even without pristine mechanics... And one thing about this that I didn't notice you mentioning is being more unpredictable, it's exactly what you are saying, having more diversity on the play. That is so the enemy does not know how to challenge you every time, if you only control and do slow plays the enemy might start to always challenge you quick, breaking your plays, and if you only boom and pass, the enemy might start to get distance from the play and also break your plays easier. Being diverse is very powerful.

At first I thought this was just like most other replay analysis videos I’ve seen, but as you got more into your analysis it all really started to come together and was really insightful! I’m not really at this level yet, but I am roughly a gc1 that can hang in gc2 lobbies (in oce which puts me within the top 1000 in the region) so although I’m not necessarily as consistent mechanically, a lot of this still applies, and my play style is somewhat similar, but I’m also better at just getting good 50s and challenges, and beating my opponents to the ball and playing around them. My largest issue I’m aware of is my shooting, and my positioning/timing on my first man defense. Loved the video will try to see if I can make use of any of this advice in my own games

Thank you so much! I'm glad you resonated with the video. Boost, spacing, and speed is all you need! But I hear you on everything, and I'd also be proud of your rank. OCE is a tough region due to the player population, which makes the lobbies fairly inconsistent. I appreciate you adding some insights/what you're focusing on - cheers!

Ok time for the breakdown. My favorite thing about coaching SSLs compared to champs is that champs look for answers to their blatantly obvious problems, but SSLs , they need a coach to point out problems that they can't see and then SSLs can easily fix stuff like that on their own because they understand the game well enough. I think maybe thinking more ahead will help Sith a lot. And if he ends up joining N2N's team there's a chance i might just speak with him directly >:D. Notice every time you talk about him losing ball control or maybe choosing a mechanic just to get challenged or dunked, a way around this is by thinking ahead from the opponents perspective, How much space do i have and when will someone challenge me, where can i put the ball to keep pressure either through a follow up, maybe a pass, maybe a controlled 50? all these options but every time he starts to choose one that doesn't really work out more of a 1 for 1 trade which can be good. However the problem is 1 for 1s arn't too effective in 3s because the person defending can rotate back quicker and apply more pressure doing so than the attackers in a lot of these cases. Part of it could also be with his mechanics being too clean as you said, Is him being too clean and going for the same consistent air dribble a problem. Maybe in some cases , an example of this is you become too predictable and so the opponents will condition a certain reaction and then over time come out on top more often. While booming the ball away and giving away possession is typically a bad thing, id love to see more accurate positionings across and more boomer passes overall since this is 3s, a bunch of dribbles isn't likely to work. Since he's so mechanical why are his booms always going right to the opponent, like at least try to make it awkward for them to pick it up instead of diming the opponents. in a general sense he plays 3s like 2s and involves maybe more cuts or pushes up too closely like a close 2nd in 2s, more than is what's needed. So along with what you said, this is how i would bunch the main 3 things up Control the ball with your team, partially thinking more ahead of the outcomes of the options you choose maybe. Diversifying his decisions, he makes consistent decisions mechanically and rotation wise which is nice for his team because he's easy to read , but this is a double edged sword, hes ez to read from the opponents perspective as well. every time he just goes for some sort of air dribble lets see different types of touches and challenges as you said. Finally i see sort of assumptions being made which is putting him out of position. For example if he assumes he needs to play defensive he will turn back and let his team remain in a 2v3 on offense. A good example of this in his gameplay is when he continuously pushes up on offense too much to one side, but if he positions more centrally as that third when hes pushing up to fill in for 2nd, he wouldnt be so close to play and locking his options. While seeing the play just 1 second ahead he loses track of his positioning and role to fill with the team because of assumptions he is making about the play.

There's a lot to unpack there, but all in all, I fully agree with what you're saying. There are so many different ways to "solve a problem" in this game, which is a good and a bad thing. I never care about what players resonate with, as long as something clicks. I really appreciate you taking the time to add your insights. They're helpful for everyone watching/reading, in addition to the player being reviewed. I'll let them know to check it out!

@@WronskianTV This makes me excited for when eventually maybe we have a disagreement in playstyle or options, because to me, that is where the most productive and interesting conversations happen. because there is multiple ways to play rocket league as stated; so i love to see the different ways people go about solving a problem. The downside to this statement is that it seems we both have a pretty open perspective and already agree on a lot of these topics haha. Edit: sorry didnt mean to @ you.

@@SciaticJones I always try to keep an open mind towards gameplay views, even if I disagree with someone. However, I will express my disagreement if something is absolutely false (or ridiculous). I upload coaching content for a variety of reasons, but a core one is that I want to get players thinking more intentionally about their gameplay. I want to encourage open and productive conversation. If you're interested, you should join my Discord server. We have a lot of players and coaches who think just like you; it's all vibes and good car ball. Here's a link: discord.com/servers/crossbar-heroes-288118034382716928
