I met David Gale (Father Reddin) in NY City once.....I went into a very small quiet restaurant to eat lunch and in he walked with his dog...I remember his bony legs...omg..he was soooo thin! It was during a school break that I was there...to top it off he sat right next to me at the bar. He told me that the soap is ending next month which would have been February. I got back to my college and told the girls in the lounge that always gathered to watch the program that the program was ending in February....they didn't believe me, til the last episode when they all came charging to my dorm and screamed...omg...so you really did meet him! I will never forget that day!

I have vague memories of this. Not because I liked soap operas--I was too young to know what a soap opera was--but because my mother loved this show and watched it every chance she got. I happened to be in front of the TV when she turned on the program. So you might say this is part of my childhood, at least to a certain extent. I find it fascinating to see that two familiar names--Gary Sandy and Linda Purl--starred in the show. Thanks for posting this.

@RabbitEarsRedux Actually, the Secret Stom logo is an artist's creation. The "font," if it could be called that, has been described as an upswept, brush stroke script -- one that probably could not readily re-created without doing a screen grab or a scan on computer.
@soap1919jt13 жыл бұрын
From about 1973 to series end in 1974, the organ version of this theme was replaced with a more contemporary one. This occured right as the Young & the Restless aired, featuring it's very modern theme. This new version was likely played using an electric piano and harpsichord. It was quite pretty, just as the older Brahms theme is. Now the original theme is an eerie piece in C minor, and by the early 60s, was played over the ocean waves and the equally eerie logo.

Buddy-L metal trucks, Matchbox cars, 'caps' and cap guns, HotWheels.. and the B+W TV buzzing during the day in the other room with game shows, soaps, cartoons, Mike Douglas and Merv Griffin. @gymnastix I remember "Dark Shadows" very well. The title sequences and visuals did spook me, but not as much as "The Secret Storm," for some reason. Now the DS logo (and I happen to be looking at it right now), has no real similarity to the SS logo. The DS logo is in a gothic font, whereas the SS logo is an artist's rendering, and has been described as an upswept, brush stroke script. They do share similar backdrops, though. I have seen the original SS. It is a bit eerie, too. Luv it!

Often, it seems, I may not find my remote to get rid of that damn EAS invasion fast enough. It is not only the fear factor, as was more the case when I was a child, but also the sheer loudness of the EAS message today that bugs me.
@gymnastix13 жыл бұрын
If you look around, you will actually see original video of "The Secret Storm" opening titles sequence from a bit earlier, albeit in black and white. But the pace of the theme music (from 1968-74) was a bit quicker than played here. You could also just dub Ken Roberts' original voice-overs over the music, as some exist, at least as separate audio files, on another website. But your visuals and the credits roll are amazingly close to how they actually appeared in the relevant era.

A.B.S Productions, LLC thanks for the heads up! I was just 4 years old then. The only soap operas I remembered around 1974 were my mom religiously watching Days of Our Lives and Another World, the latter I couldn’t wait to be over at 3:00 on our NBC station because one hour of Warner Brothers cartoons came on afterwards. 1974-1980-ish. The one hour we had everyday after school and in the summer time the kids owned the TV outside of 7-11 on Saturday morning. And I remember Tattletales. I was bored by it and too young to understand, but seeing it now love the good-natured host they had. Bert Convy was underrated. And when I was sick or during the summer, watching The Price is Right 10-11, with The Young and the Restless afterwards and going to the neighborhood pool. Okay, I’ll stop! This 52 year old Generation X’er staying home most of the time has too much time on his hands reminiscing about his nice suburban life in Austin, Texas back then when it was a small city.

Jon Stewart I wasn’t even born when any of those shows were on, I’m only 30! Lol My grandmother was a huge CBS soap fan, she also watched Another World and AMC back in the 70’s but she told me that once the networks started to really mess with the time slots she limited herself to just CBS. My mother was into CBS mostly but also switched to AMC if Y&R wasn’t interesting. She was more of a fan of AMC In the 80’s when Angie and Jesse were on. She also told me when she was in college she was into “The Doctors.” I can definitely see why. I’ve been hooked on that soap! When I was in high school, I was into Port Charles, AMC and especially Passions. I used to race home to see the second half of Passions at 2 pm. I loved that offbeat soap. But I still love watching the classic soaps more. I’m not too crazy for NBC soaps in the mid 80’s. I can see why their shows were in the ratings basement for most of the 80’s.

@orbit14915: I remember those sequences! This sequence featured the same colored, Secret Storm logo. But instead of the logo zooming outward, as it does here, there were several SS logos floating across the sky, with one of the logos eventually stopping in the middle of the screen. This sequence was used in the late 1960s, from about 1967 to 1968, shortly after The Secret Storm went to color.

No, American Home Products until it sold the show to CBS in 1968. When cancellation was in sight, AHP bought it back and tried to syndicate it but there were not enough takers. Love of Life was also owned by AHP and I think they also sold it to CBS.

@@bobthetvfan correct. The prior year CBS canceled its in house sosps Where the Heart Is and Love is a Many Splendored Thing due to low ratings. There was also a recession at that time, creating a loss of ad dollars. Love of Life just brought Meg back to the story after a 16 year absence, creating an increase in ratings, so it escaped the ax then. I wonder if AHP offerred to buy back LOL in late 1979 when CBS was getting ready to cancel it? AHP sold both LOL and EON to CBS in 1968; prior to then, AHP licensed the shows to CBS.
