I really dig this content. The interviewer (forgive me, don't know her name) is always so fluid and calm with her guests.

More great content. I think that a cycle of 6 scripts makes good practical sense and over 2 years means 1 script every 4 months. I think that is a realistic time frame. Perhaps in the beginning 4 months might be a bit of a struggle, but after getting a couple of scripts done we as writers should have understood the process well enough to be able to meet this goal. I'm certainly making it mine!

So it's imperative screenwriters obtain a manager and agent? So that's like 25 to 30% of your pay not including big brothers cut so essentially if you want to be a writer in Hollywood you're really only taking home about 50% of your paycheck.... Not very enticing..

When he says 6 scripts every 2 years... is he referring to tv or features? 6 features is a lot

If you don't get it, you're not a writer.

So basically you're writing your butt off on 6 scripts, assuming they're of great quality, to never selling them and not knowing why, only to have one of them go through, only to not making it in the end. Well geez! Why write at all, if your work is not going to be read or recognized, assuming is of great quality, or produced into a movie then why take all that time and energy to write it. I sometimes feel these little talks are meant to discouraged writers for some reason.

I understand your frustration. The only point for writing is if you’re one of those people who has to write Because not writing is not an option.

This stuff is for the type of people who say "I'm going to be a senator or the president and im going for it." Its also difficult for actors, directors, day traders, athletes. There is no guarantee you don't break your knee as a pro soccer payer right after high school. I like to see it as, "this is constantly in my mind because my creator has instructed me that this is my path so im going for it and nothing else is priority. this is the mission." you got to love the competition and the constant daily reminder that you are either wasting your life away or you are on a mission. If this isnt for you, than write for fun and go do something more structured.

So basically, write 6 scripts just so one of them sells??? And now we know why it's the age of the remake.
@filmcourage
@filmcourage 7 жыл бұрын
You will be lucky to sell 1 of the 6. Point is that professional screenwriters always have more than 1 project they are working on.
