This transforms my game. I just can not tell you how thankful I am, such an eye opener! Another one from your videos! Thanks for explaining the "underhand throw release". It explains the "new move" through impact most of the tour pros use now without snap hooking the hell out of it by releasing it properly. I was working on the "DJ wrist move" or slightly closed club face but I was using my "old, toe up, toe up" release and experienced some severe snappers. This helps a ton!

Very interesting and informative video. I fall into the roll release category but I have been trying unsuccessfully to swing like a a body rotation release golfer. I have been trying to improve compressing the ball. My shots are going far to the right with the body rotation release method. I will stick with the roll release method and work on impact and ball compression using my natural roll release swing. Thanks for this really informative lesson Giles.

Goes to show the key is matching the release up to YOUR swing. Both release types are great but only if your clubface matches the pattern

Great video! What I have trouble with is how much to release when. When I leave the release quite late I gain an incredible amount of speed and can hit my irons as much as 20 yards further. However, I feel like it’s ‘flippy’ and inconsistent with face direction. When I release a bit earlier I don’t get the same speed or shaft lean but it is was more consistent.
@Gilesgillgolf
@Gilesgillgolf Жыл бұрын
I’d be looking earlier and see why that is… is your shaft steep, do you stall out, is your clubface too open?
@Rich-in6ds
@Rich-in6ds Жыл бұрын
@@Gilesgillgolf it feels like it is just a deliberate choice as to whether to gradually release the club over the course of the downswing or to hold the angle and release it late but fast. The former keeps the face more in line with the path for longer but doesn’t create the ‘whip’ of speed through impact.
@Gilesgillgolf
@Gilesgillgolf Жыл бұрын
@@Rich-in6ds then I would focus more on your legs and making sure you’re pushing out the ground correctly to naturally create the whip

Another great lesson, Thank you. Where is the release trending towards on the pro tours currently? How would you classify Tiger, Rory, Rahm and Adam Scott release patterns?
@Gilesgillgolf
@Gilesgillgolf Жыл бұрын
Depends on their clubface position. Rahm is more closed so will be more of a body release. From memory tiger isn’t as closed so he’s a little bit more roll release. But at the same time it doesn’t matter. What matters is what you do
@deanbarth6886
@deanbarth6886 Жыл бұрын
Great videos you release, keep them coming! Would you say one release pattern is easier to preform and has a better chance at delivering a nice square compressed club face to the ball more often? One release has lower longer ball flight and one release tends to be higher shorter ball flight type thing?
@Gilesgillgolf
@Gilesgillgolf Жыл бұрын
Great question Dean! It all depends on your clubface. If you can change your clubface I might say a body release produces a flatter flight but in all honesty playing with your natural clubface is the best bet
@kimseungjoo6001

What an enlightening video! Thank you - I had a quick question though. Do these different release patterns apply to the driver as well? I am definitely more of a body release person with the irons but when it comes to drivers, I am a little confused.
@Gilesgillgolf
@Gilesgillgolf Жыл бұрын
They do apply to driver but again the key is seeing where your clubface is. Clubface determines release pattern

Hi Giles, from this video I think I need to do the under hand throw release. However this seems to be kind of the opposite of what you explain in the video to get rid of chicken wings, where you suggest to have an outside rotation with the lead hand, which would naturally bring the the right hand on top. I guess the two are alternative moves and I need to try them and see what works for me? Or can the two moves work together? Thank you so much, you are the best coach!

For a body release you need the face square to closed so that trail hand needs to be on top to allow this to work

Can you cover a video of a more upright swing like Bryson DeChambeau my wrist will not allow me to do what you’re talking about in these videos
@Gilesgillgolf
@Gilesgillgolf Жыл бұрын
In the case that you can’t time it or that you’ve had wrist injuries. Bryson still releases the club like the roll release examples. The roll release is more of a forearm based release so if you’re struggling then I’d check you’re doing it right first

With all do respect Giles, do you not recognize the “throw release” as a third release pattern ?
@Gilesgillgolf
@Gilesgillgolf 10 ай бұрын
Every release has to throw otherwise the club would never realign. No such thing as it as an individual release in itself as it’s apart of every release. Basic physics that the biomechanical data backs up

Oops, my bad. You do cover the throw release.
@tomeldridge2915
@tomeldridge2915 10 ай бұрын
Being fearful of “flipping” the clubhead, which according to nearly all golf instruction is a near felony, my overriding downswing thought was to hold off release in an attempt to gain “shaft lean.” As a result I blocked my way around the course. While I managed to maintain a single digit hdcp I never created any real compression, ergo, a short hitter. Finally out of frustration I determined to release the right hand earlier, as in my initial downswing move. Adding to that the thought of full left wrist extension and guess what, no flip. Remembering a John Jacobs drill, swinging with my feet together I find myself in perfect balance at the finish. This tells me I am doing something correct. Giles, I am aware I talking about an isolated movement and there is more to consider, but without this movement I realize I will never reach my full potential.
