I grew up in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou, being exposed to a large "dose" of Japanese culture, of which two aspects I have found to be most attractive: realistic depiction of imagined worlds; refined elaboration on human nature and internal emotions. When I was a kid, the Chinese media were mostly filled with antihuman propaganda, but luckily, by the 1980s Japanese movies and manga seemed to flood our everyday life, and somehow they appealed to our hearts much more directly than Western culture. And now, I think I have to add a third aspect of your culture that seems to have been lost in mine: You have better preserved elements from ancient China.
