I wish I knew about this 16 yrs ago!!! I would see something on you tube and buy it without thinking how I would use it!! After years of doing that I started asking myself how would I use it, how many times would I use it and who would I sent it to!!! I unsubscribed a lot of channels that I use to watch because all they were showing was new products and I had decided to stop buying and just use what I have. Now the ones I watch now I look to see what I have that is close to what they are doing. So many companies have there own ink pads, glue and etc and the you tuber will say that it is there favorite and next week it is another company that is there favorite!! So for me I just unsubscribed and that helps me!! I enjoy channels like yours and others that say use what you have!!!

My craft room is literally overflowing and, as I embark on a massive declutter, coming across your channel is perfect timing (albeit after my purchases haha)! I intend on watching your videos a number of times over so it cements this mindset and I don't revert to old justifications. Like Justine, my paper tower is way taller than me - what is so beautiful is currently wasted ... but not for much longer!

Slowly over the past 10 years I have purchased quite a bit or been given things. With encouragement from friends it has involved multiple crafts from scrap booking to cards to wire beading etc etc. Now over the past 2 years I realize I am never going to use some of these things. I craft in a loft space and don't want to go out of that space. So many things has forced me to use my basement for storage...something I swore I would not do. Out of sight-out of mind. I like card making, an occasional scrapbook for a friend and other items as seen from Tim Holtz like his 3d boxes. Everything else should go. I am yet again reorganizing my craft room and weeding things out. i have tools i was assured I needed and have never used. I have machines that were given to me that are outdated and are useless. I have a cropadile and have never used it. There are only so many hours in the day for crafting...who wants to sit that long. You can have fun with less.
@inkhillrevival289
@inkhillrevival289 3 жыл бұрын
So very true!!! I would even go so far to say you can have MORE fun with less because you don’t have that extra burden of organizing, storing, caring for, choosing between, and using all the things! I think that’s a great goal to clean shop! Sending all the purging and organization energy your way! Thanks so much for watching and commenting! 💕

Great advice. When I first started card making, I bought lots of "critter" stamps and felt less than adequate because I didn't have all the copic markers. After a year or so, I realized that I don't like "cute" cards with critters, and I don't enjoy coloring. Now, what I choose to invest in is very specific, and it has to be something that I'll use more than once!

You told exactly how it works! The best thing is to only buy things that you are sure of you are going to use often! I am planning to reorganise and use airtable for a long time, but never took the time for it, because crafting is more fun than organising. And sometimes shopping and getting crafty ideas from youtube or instagram is more fun than crafting 🥰

This is probably one of my favorite videos. Online shopping for craft items can be soooooo overwhelming and expensive. My re-entry into crafting was purchasing a Cricut---and I didn't use it much. I fell in love with cardmaking, specifically stamping, stenciling and heat embossing. I also love the look of embossing folders, but I forget to use them! I have started using my Cricut more, to make stencils, and draw large floral backgrounds for cards that I can color. I love watching people make cards using layering stamps/stencils. but don't see using these in my future! I have shopping carts started on several sites (I keep getting reminders) because I see things I really (think I) want, but really, truly do NOT need. Thanks so much for this video--it is really helpful!

I tend to put things I want in carts and leave them there for a bit. Then go back over it after a day, two or a week later and then some of it gets deleted. The ones that don't sometimes wait longer and some might not survive the wait. But at the end I know what is still there is something I see myself using more than once.

I’m so happy to hear you’re new to card making! That’s an exciting place to be! Interesting in terms of purchasing with a smaller history/still testing the waters. My biggest regret there was building my stash out in single technique batches. Like I’d save and get all the stuff and lots of colors to ink blend, then 6 months later a batch of supplies for a new technique. Wish I’d sampled techniques with very minimal supply purchases. Gleaned my style with less spending 😉 Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

@inkhillrevival289
@inkhillrevival289 3 жыл бұрын
Totally get that. I’d say the most important part of this topic for anyone, beginner or advanced, is the mindset shift. Recognizing just because someone else is recommending something, doesn’t mean you’re gonna love it, too. It’s easy to get swept up in sales or new releases all over social media. Maybe you end up buying too much at a time only to find out you don’t like layering stamps and just bought 3. Go easy on that buying, especially with something totally new to you. Buy in small amounts with the idea you’re testing things out and getting to know what you like. Not everything will be a keeper, trying things out is part of getting to know your style. This video talks about that side of things: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3rdZ6t-bdaJo8U You probably know some things about yourself in general that could help, too. Are you detail oriented (small layering dies, colored pencils), are you more laid back (watercolor, gel press), what style decor do you like, might be the same style stamps you’re drawn to. Here’s another video on buying according to your practical card making needs: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4W2i52eaM9_nas

Oh interesting! I find if something’s along the style lines I like working with then I’m game to use most images. Some people can be fun to specifically buy for if you regularly make cards for them, but I can see how it could also put you in a bind with that set if it’s like one card and done.

Where did you get those cups on wall and the rail to hang them up?

It’s so funny you ask, I’ve got a video coming up in awhile on some of my favorite storage items and this is in it 😂 it’s the IKEA Sunnersta rail and containers. Absolutely love it!

Love this info! I already know that I purchased some of the "cute" character stamps last year because I saw so many folks making so many sweet little cards. At the time, I really felt like they weren't in my style, but I was thinking I shouldn't think so much about "me" and more about what other folks might like. How'd that work?? I still haven't used those stamps. I hate having spent the money on them (so I think I'll pull them out and use them for someone) but I do know that I'll just enjoy looking at the sweet cards, knowing that I won't buy any of those stamps :-)

Yes!!! There is absolutely a balance between what you like making with and who you’re gifting a card to. And you as the maker are so important, too! Good thing critters come in all sorts of styles, not just cute 😂 Just an FYI, the second part of this series published this week! Thanks so much for watching and sharing your experience. Good luck still using the critters!

😂 they’re super gorgeous, it’s just so much more enjoyable to color than be all finicky trying to line up layers!

Good advice but seems overwhelming. I will see about looking through old cards to see what I discover...

Oh, where was this video - or where was I! - when I talked myself into buying Copics. I don’t like coloring, I said. I didn’t even like it as a kid, I said. But everyone loves Copics and coloring. Maybe I should give it a chance, I said. After all, I love learning new techniques and trying everything, right? So I’ll take a class since the teacher is outstanding. So I bought Copics. And learned a lot in the class. And never used them. But then another shop was having a Copics series of classes. I’ll take those classes, I said! Then maybe I’ll like coloring. And I bought more Copics for that class, because having the right supplies is key, right? (I said.)… I went to the first two classes. And kept watching the clock. And then? I got rid of all my Copics. I don’t like to color, I say. I didn’t like it even as a kid.

Oh my goodness! That was wonderful of you to see it and ultimately clear the copics from your space. Someone else can enjoy them now and you can focus on what you love🙌

@@inkhillrevival289 Yet instead of trusting myself since I knew I didn’t enjoy traditional coloring, I took not just one but two classes and purchased lots of Copics and specialty paper. I won’t say dumb but it is a big “duh!”
