shape design was when I learned that a drawing can't just be anatomically correct, it also has to look good visually from a design point of view. Force drawing was also really hard to understand but I think of it as a way to visually represent the flow of energy that we perceive in a pose. Really happy that you're talking about these more advanced design concepts!

Your lineart is so crisp and precise!! For me, I usually spend too much time doing a sketch that when it comes to inking, I don’t feel like doing it anymore and I half-ass it 😭

Ahh that's a tough stage to get through, but maybe it would help to take a day-2 between finishing the sketch and inking, so it feels fresh again?

Cool tips! As for me myself and I, I've come to accept the ugly phases because I arrive at my destination in the end - and it sometimes feels like magic because the ugliness was so intense for a long time! I enjoy this kind of emerging from the depths of cringe and sucking in the fresh air after holding my breath for so long, so to speak. Another thing that helps is drawing the eyes first. It somehow gives me a glimpse of hope about what to expect in the end ;-)

i think it's inevitable to have an ugly stage with heavier paint mediums like gouache unlike watercolors and pencils. would love to see you share your experience on it.
