its good that you touch on the what part (what should happen), but would be more useful to explain to learner the how part (how to achieve it). To me the two keys things to help me learn the racquet drop/lag is 1. trunk rotation 2. thinking of throwing the elbow up not the racquet up. These two things combine will automatically result in a racquet drop/lag.

Sometimes the lag on the serve is referred to as semi-abbreviated backswing, but not much one can find with these key words in Google. It seems to be increasingly popular among top players. My main tennis partner has a lag on his serve. Funnily enough, he is not happy about it. Why? Because he is mainly watching a lot of videos of the 80s with the likes of McEnroe, Becker, Connors. These guys were raising both arms simultaneously. By chance, I came across a video comparing Boris Beckers serve motion in 1985 and 1995. In 1985 he had a lag in his serve motion. In 1995 he raised his arms together. The owner of the video had a preference for the earlier version of his serve. On my own serve, the racket arm motion is ahead of the tossing arm. One of my tennis coaches encouraged me to do so. Now I am gradually trying to change this. By the way, your videos in the Online Course are very useful as a reference.

Earlier you said to toss at a 45-deg angle from the baseline. Now you say toss parallel to the baseline.? Which is it? Thank you!

My understanding is we start at 45, but as we coil we end up lifting the arm already parallel…
