How's the ol back holding up after 4+ years of farming? Any stretching routines or practices you'd recommend?
@farmtablewest59912 ай бұрын
Child's pose for lower back and ultimately the best solution, really good employees.

Thanks for the pointers from a fellow market gardener. What state are you in?
@farmtablewest59912 ай бұрын
Wyoming. You?

How do you handle the carrot root fly? Or does it trouble your farm at all?
@farmtablewest59912 ай бұрын
Not at all. No idea why but they aren't here in the west.
@joshuahoyer12792 ай бұрын
@@farmtablewest5991 Wow that's interesting! Maybe it's the cold you get. Here in Oregon I've seen a few carrots here and there tunneled around by the little buggers, but it hasn't ruined too much.

Might try adding some wood ash to your soil. Have found that really helps, with several insect problems@@joshuahoyer1279.

@farmtablewest59912 ай бұрын
This video is targeted for gardeners so my specs are not important to them but 10 13 sprockets and xy 24 50 foot bed
@farmtablewest59912 ай бұрын
Gardeners won't need any of that info. Earthway is just the carrot plate

How about fertilization?
@farmtablewest59912 ай бұрын
1 inch compost per year, plus alfalfa meal in summer plus special amendment to soil test in spring.

Id rather know the yearly yield.
@farmtablewest59912 ай бұрын
Why? This year will be around 3000 lbs but the point is I've grown a lot in clay.

@@farmtablewest5991 big corporations will go for multi year reports especially when they have a poor year to report because even if there were good reasons for the negative year it can appear to an investor that they are not so stable. Homesteaders can have bad years as well as good. If they have had consecutively higher yields each year that is awesome and I'd love to here what they attribute that growth to; changed seed companies, started adding additional amendments, expanded garden area, dumb luck, etc. if you've had a great couple years and then it bombs I'd like to hear why you think that happened; drought or flooding, family tragedy that took time away, sudden infestation of locusts or deer, etc. it would help identify problems or good management practices I might be able to apply personally or look out for. It is great for analysis.
