I would dip the shoes 👞 and boots 👢upside down so the soles don't get dyed. You can also spray a waterproof shoe protector on the part of the shoes you dont want to dye since Vaseline is so greasy. Spray the inside of the fabric with dye sealer as well to prevent it from rubbing off on socks and skin. Use the right fabric dye and follow directions. They now have fabric dye pens and brushes, so you can just color by hand.

I tried you method with stained, white canvas keds. Wanted them dyed black. The shoes turned out a sort of faded dark denim which looks kind of good. Also, the sides of the soles stained. However, I think your method is good for brand new white keds. Although I thoroughly washed and let the shoes dry, I think they had something oily on them that would never washout. Canvas is such a tight weave, that they are nearly impossible to get thoroughly cleaned, grease free. The oil is going to resist the dye. Also, you dipped your shoes canvas side down so the Vaseline was not submerged in the soap long enough to wash off. Vaseline will eventually wash off with any soapy water and to get a nice, deep color you have to soak the shoes submerged in the dye for 10-20 minutes. Lastly, I will NEVER buy white canvas shoes again!
@dwenchan8312 жыл бұрын
Using soap and hot water as well would wash off the Vaseline layer or at least degrade it enough. Probably have to use a thermometer to get the right temperature for the the dye to be effective but not too hot to affect the Vaseline.
