The best GIMP tutor - thanks so much for sharing
@vanmartin96652 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Davies, for a well done tutorial. No background music or gimmicks! Love that. "Just the facts, ma'am." A 1950s reference from the TV show Dragnet. LOL I am a 70 yr old artist. I have been with Adobe Photoshop since the first release. Recently, they and Microsoft, have disappointed me greatly with changes in their policies regarding support. I have always had GIMP, but haven't paid much attention to the software until now. I have been going through withdrawals regarding Adobe for a few weeks, and now you have converted me. The same thing happened with Maya and 3D Studio Max. Now I use Blender and Daz. I am building a new upgraded workstation. The last one was well over $10,000.00. At some point I am going to sign up for your master class. I also have the Affinity Suite. I like it as well. Thanks again, I'm watching.

Thank you for the hint to Affinity Suite. Seems like a alternative to the Adobe universum the DTP business was - and maybe still is - in like I was. I made my first steps in Gimp. The key function and shortcuts are quite unusual and I`m searching most of the time. No fun but... Servus
@vanmartin9665 Жыл бұрын
@@haraldmuethel7546 After using Affinity for a while now, I will admit that Adobe Photoshop, to my knowledge, is still the best photo editing software available to the general public. I do miss it. That might be because I am more familiar with the Photoshop app. I think the developers at Affinity, used the Adobe apps to design their software. They are to similar. I just don't like bullies, and that includes the corporate world. Microsoft is behind it!!!

Mike, the old bump map magic pays dividends once again. I have to admit that I have never used the 3D transform tool so I will have to have a learning session with it. Thanks for sharing!

Clear, informative tutorial - thanks. Just a couple of Qs: 1 - I'm a gimp novice & can't get paintbrush to draw anything on the VP layer. What am I doing wrong? (I have similar problems creating a curved path on which to put text - none of the online tutorials work for me). 2 - my other Q about when the vanishing point is outside the original image has been answered!

Wow! This was amazing! You made it look and seem so easy. Very easy to understand. Thank you so much!! I'm brand new to actually learning techniques. I've mostly just learned as I went and been self-taught. But we just started a new business and I need to up my game lol I'll be signing up for your Udemy classes. Thank you very much for this tutorial!!

Awesome! If I use the Eraser on the question mark layer I would get an even better result so that it doesn't look like there are black lines on the picture, instead, I would actually delete it from the areas where it shouldn't show. Right?
@DaviesMediaDesign2 жыл бұрын
I believe the black lines are because I added the photo layer at the top and put a layer mode on it to blend it with the layers below. You'd want to also add a layer mask to this layer and paint out the same areas.

Hi Davies, good explained tutorial! Thank you for your time and services. One think I notice is that the perspective is not a real perspective. The "Far ratio" of the symbol image, is not smaller than the closer portion. As you look at the Pier, you can see the perspective look on it. The symbol should match the same perspective look. For that the it should be adjusted with the "Perspective tool" just a little. Just a thought!
@DaviesMediaDesign2 жыл бұрын
Hey Ed - the far end of the symbol is in fact adjusted to be smaller and to match the perspective of the pier. It's just a bit of an optical illusion because the top of the question mark is larger than the bottom in the original symbol/text. But, if you look closely, the top shrinks significantly during the transformation to match the perspective of the photo.
@conorpodonoghue2 жыл бұрын
@@DaviesMediaDesign Agreed. Try doing the same thing with a "H" instead of a "?" and it becomes clear that the perspective is perfect. The Perspective tool, on the other hand, is more difficult to manage - guidelines are not enough and you need to do some calculations to avoid losing the aspect ratio of the text.

What should we do if the vanishing point is outside the frame?
@DaviesMediaDesign2 жыл бұрын
You could create a new layer that is much larger than the image, then go to View>Show All to show the layer boundary outside the image boundary. Finally, perform the steps as sequenced in this tutorial.

Why is there not a single tutorial showing how to create multiple perspective grids?! I've been trying FOR HOURS now to give an image the shape of two sides of a box (with the edge in the middle) and for some reason, not a single person on the internet seems to know how to do that!
