Hey Mike, great video, do you know how I can find the tools for paths on a mac? the menu isn't showing up

The difference between adjustments here and in Ps is that a) Ps can stack adjustments and you can reorder those in the stack. Secondly, there's a paintable layer mask for adjustments in Ps which isn't in GIMP (yet). That said, this is a welcome transition.

You can add layer effects to a layer group, reorder the layer effects in the stack, and add a layer mask to the layer group. I believe GIMP can do all these things.

@@DaviesMediaDesign I'll give this a try. Reordering effects like with Adjustment Layers on Ps would be a welcome addition. But I see no way to use a layer mask to mask out effects like Ps does. I'd also like to be able to copy and paste effects stacks and make default stacks. But I'll try what you propose and see if I can make it work. These nondestructive changes are a welcome addition. Whatever doesn't work now I think may get added in later 3.0 dot revisions.

Hi there Mr Davies. I watched almost all of your videos and I must say I love them!!! I have a small request if it is posible. Is there any way by using Gimp 3.0 RC2 and G'MIC to create a Dyllan Furst moody effect in my photoes?? THNX in advance!!
@loughkb2 күн бұрын
Just downloaded RC2 today and went looking for this and it's not there. No playground option in the preferences and no paint select tool anywhere. Did they remove it?

Gimp has an important role in human expressionism. If I can go to the store and buy a bowl why would I bother making one? Because without that level of interaction why do we bother even being here?

I use GOMP for a lot of my creativity outlet. Not just for phoros.

Absolutely insane that after two decades of development that it is this complex to make an arc...I swear this tool is built from some alien race that just thinks differently

Is this a tutorial? I just need to know how to use it ? We don't need somebody to read off the features, this is a useless video. Sorry!

Also, remember, in this day and age, the younger generations have become lazy and want everything without having to put in any effort in to get ahead in anything worthwhile. I also write and create music as well as design work. I'm not fond AI as a creator of media. AI will be useful in many applications, but for the most part, in my opinion, just like social media has made our society not physically interact with one another, hide behind the curtain and sometimes with a lack of empathy. Personally, I like to use my brain and not rely on sitting back, letting something do the work for me while I sit on the couch eating junk food, and watching reruns of Grey's Anatomy. 😂

I recently switched to Linux (to avoid the Windows 10 end of life) and now, after nearly 20 years of Photoshop, I'm stuck with GIMP. The one thing I just can't forgive is that I have to export images to any format other than GIMP's own. Does anyone even _use_ GIMP format?

I still rely on GIMP for my thumbnails. I watch your videos to learn how to utilize more of Gimps capabilities and still after years of using GIMP I am just scratching the surface. Stay well, Joe Z

Thank You!! I do have a little update (I think) .. I am just now reinstalling this, and it looks like the format has changed a little. Instead of having a download button, there are 3 little links: Raw .. Copy Raw File .. Download Raw File .. after clicking Download, it did it automatically to my Downloads File. (After examining my Gimp Plug ins, I discovered the file is the same and I already had the needed files, I just had to hunt down the link, which is under Maps.) Now the problem. It looks totally different than the last time I used it a couple of years ago and I'm not locating a current tutorial on your Website. Am I just missing it?

Ai was created to enable people who have very little creative imagination to enter a world that they could not have entered into without it. GIMP was created to educate people who already have a creative mind to enter into a world of mind expanding technology and creativity. Do we need GIMP (etc), yes without such programs the human brain would just decline into a yes/no syndrome.

Given that you can run an older version and 3+ side by side where is the loss. You are not locked into harsh restrictive licensing rules.

Yes, because AI art is awful and ugly. It only takes a glance to notice if something is AI. Human art just looks better

I Love GIMP! I just started my graphic design journey, honestly nothing can replace the joy of creating your own design exactly the way you want it, also the imperfection and brainstorming that goes into every design may be lost due to AI. Thanks for all your tutorials so far, its made my beginning stage easy and interesting.

Of course we need programs like GIMP! Creating graphics from start to finish yourself is an extraordinary experience, and so is improving the photo. I also use AI tools when creating graphics, but it's like making coffee from a capsule in an espresso machine - I put it in, press the button and it goes... and I prefer to prepare my own coffee from grinding to brewing...

To fix the font cutoff underneath the option turn the scale factor to 150 or above and that should solve your problem. After that you can use the settings under the tab to scale the font to whatever preview size you desire.

AI creates images that can look good but are seldom what you actually want. The only way to approximate your desires is to repeatedly generate multiple images and hope for the best. I've used GIMP in the past to upload an approximation of my desired image and then used AI to shortcut the clean-up process, but again, it needs a lot of repetition - often to the point where I give up. The training set of images fed to the AI heavily influences results - for example, if you ask AI to create a picture of George Washington at the Battle of Yorktown his soldiers will be wearing WW2 'GI Joe' helmets and there may even be a jet flying overhead.
