There are some beautiful wigs now. Short hair mid hair or long. Why not stop coloring your hair and see if it helps your hair thicken and try wigs different colors and lengths????❤❤❤

I think you look fabulous. We as mature women need to embrace getting older and just accept ourselves the way we are. It's okay to want to be the best version of ourselves and we still want to look good. I totally agree a good diet and good self care will help.

Over 50% of women will experience hair loss in middle age. Not just thinning but near baldness. A little less judgement please.

I'm 55 and my hair used to be thinning and falling out in clumps. Hands down the two best things I did was to 1) stop dyeing my hair and 2) focus on proper nutrition. Now, my hair is a super thick, long, and a lovely cinnamon grey. I continue to have so much new growth sprouting along my crown that it looks like I have bangs. For me, it is way more important to age in an intelligent way which is as natural as I can.

I love this video thank you so much! I’m not ready to go gray. I’m 68 and curly brunette, but now it’s getting thinner and I’m styling it differently- letting it be a bit frizzy to cover the thinning spots. not ready to go gray yet. My mom passed at 82 and was still coloring her hair. I very much appreciate this video you are beautiful inside and out

The reality is not all gray hair is pretty. I was lucky and it grew out that perfect blend of white with radiant glints of silver. It looks so much better with my coloring..I look younger and more vibrant at 72 than I did at 55 with my dyed hair trying too look "younger".

Hair breakage is not the same as hair loss. Hormones & DHT are the major contributors to hair loss in aging people. Please note that not washing your hair regularly can cause follicles to become clogged, therefore not allowing your hair to grow. Think of it as a plug. It’s important to keep your scalp, clean and free of oils that may clog your follicles, also you want to stimulate blood flow in your scalp. This can be done with serums or treatments. What works for one person may not work for another.

Hello Frederique & all who watches, Long time watching your inspiring videos, first time commenting. I'm "only" in my 40s, but unfortunately have first hand experience with massive hair loss already. Here are some of the things helped me: Checked with my GP & my blood-work came back saying my iron-level was extremely low: no tablets were enough, not even the prescription / stronger one, so forced myself to eat beetroot (or drink beetroot juice, tastes nasty), and lots of red meat like liver (not an option for vegans/vegetarians, I know). Now my blood-work looks normal again, but I cannot stop looking after my iron-level, as if I forget about it, my hair starts to fell out almost instantly. Also I have changed my haircare products (Olaplex no.7 oil, Redken Acidic Bonding treatments, volume shampoo & extreme strengthening conditioner) - neither of them are cheap, but you also need much less than from the "drugstore" products, as these are much more concentrated. Started to dye my hair not with harsh permanent hydrogen-ammonium activated colours, but semi-permanent products (like henna - look for the market, as I was also amazed how many colours are available & how many easy-to-apply products exist). I do take collagen, but in a capsule form - more user friendly compare to powders & does not taste anything. Maybe the effect is placebo, or miniscule, but I take it religiously, and I see some benefit on my skin, nails & hair. Also what I take daily & suppose to help is diatomite capsule. Now I have much more hair than at the beginning of the year, so I hope the above can be some help for at least some of those who reads. Take care all & have a lovely day. And Frederique, thank you for this & all your lovely contents! 💗❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤🤍

I am in my early 70’s and still colour my hair because I am not ready yet.😊 I do not use commercial hair colouring though and use a product Herbatint. It is manufactured in Rome, Italy. This product covers Grey, and has no ammonia, resorcinol, parabens, alcohol or fragrance. It contains 8 herbal extracts and my hair feels far healthier when I’m finished (it’s the Royal Cream conditioner!). It is easy to apply and I have even had hair dressers ask me about my colour and tell me to never have anyone else do it for me because the colour looked so fantastic. Highly recommended. I live in Canada and easily find it here. Look in health food/grocery stores for it.

I went grey because I was ready, and because I realized it would look great once it was all grown out. Before I went grey, I actually spent a year going platinum blond, very gradually. So I got used to lighter hair. And then, the growing out process was so much easier from blond, instead of brunette.

I find lots of layers make a big difference in short thin hair. I'm 64 and I have been wearing what I call the "Halle Berry pixie" from her Bond girl role but just a little bit longer. I have never used a comb or hairbrush since. I just towel dry hair and run my fingers thru it. You have a beautiful face and you could rock that cut!

Thank you for being open and vulnerable on this very sensitive topic. I stopped dyeing my thinning hair at 54 and went with a very short, grey pixie cut. I constantly got compliments on my hair. Twelve years later, I retired and decided to grow it out. That was almost two years ago, and my hair is now shoulder-length, although there are still some shorter layers. I'm not convinced I like it better longer because, first of all, it's not as easy and quick to style, but also, my grey hair is frizzy and semi-wavy, so it looks a bit unkempt if I just let it dry naturally. So, I'm undecided about my next step. All the men in my family prefer long hair on women, so that's influencing me to some degree too. I must say, though, I loved how easy it was to have short hair. Yours looks fantastic on you! ❤

I wash my hair with warm water, not hot and this helps. I also use a microfibre cloth to remove most water from my hair, this stops the damage from using a towel. I was 50 when I stopped dying my hair, I realised it was quite grey underneath and had been blonding my hair, so when I stopped, no worries, it wasn't too noticeable. Now at 73, my hair is white.

I’ll 61, I went grey about 6 years ago, I went through the journey, I also kept my hair long (about the middle of my back) took me 4 plus years. Best decision I ever made. My hair is curly, though it is thinning, when I wear it curly it looks full, which I do all summer long in Florida. I’m blessed. I wash my hair once a week or even up to 8/9 days. I do use a filter, but I will take your suggestions on mineral water. Thank you kindly for the video.

Hi Frederique, I’m in my early 70s now. I’ve always had fine hair and after menopause my hair has receded at the sides. My hairdresser recommended Nioxin Shampoo, Conditioner and Scalp Treatment which I have been using for some years now. I also take Biotin. It has definitely slowed down the receding and a little has grown back on the sides, nothing dramatic but I have learned to accept it. I stopped colouring my hair because it used to come out in clumps, I decided to embrace the grey. Also after a bout of influenza and chronic cough I noticed my eyebrows have almost gone. I just pencil them in every day. 😊 By the way, I love your short hair, it is very chic.

I'm so glad you mentioned water! Hard water and water that has a high pH are very damaging to your hair. The majority of municipalities in the US keep the pH of the domestic water supply at 8:00 to 8.5 your hair needs a ph of 7 in order to not lift the cuticles. You should make your own soft water that has the correct pH to re-wet your hair . You can correct the pH of tap water by using aloe vera. For all women who are perimenopausal or postmenopausal it is so important how frequently you get your hair wet and the pH of the water!

I feel your anguish over hair loss; thank you for being so vulnerable and sharing any tips you have. I'm turning 69 in a few weeks and as a girl had incredibly thick hair....It took days to dry....but after breast cancer and complications, loads of antibiotics and developing Sepsis....my thick, beautiful, wavy hair has thinned dramatically. The grieving over my hair loss is almost as profound as my double mastectomy and failed attempts at reconstruction; I miss having breasts. I have to remind myself, I may not have beautiful hair and my body looks very different but I'm here! I'm alive and choose to have love and joy in my life. I am eating a whole food diet, eliminating sugar and meds as much as possible and have let my blond hair grey naturally. I'm going to have color analysis and am choosing to be intentional about my style. Life is rich with joy, creativity and love and even if I have thin frizzy hair and am flat chested, I'm beautiful and enjoying all the good things life gives me. Sending you love and gratitude for all you teach us.

Hi! I will soon be 75, all gray. About 10 years ago I stopped dying my hair. Originally my hair was thick and full. Was. These last few years my hair [and health] has been disappointing. Considerable hair loss and the texture changed. Frizzies! Only use Aveda brand products, shampoo once a week, and avoid heating products whenever possible. Plus, a daily supplement for joint health really helps my hair and nails and, hopefully, my joints, too. The Invati line by Aveda is wonderful. Note that sometimes as we age our complexions change, too. It is not just our hair color. My skin is much lighter now than before.

Now that I am in my mid 70's I am grateful to have mixed grey and dark blonde/light brown with a touch of red. My hair is fine. Several years ago I lost a lot of hair. It grew back a couple of years ago; more grey grew in. I avoid these chemicals in shampoo: sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth (sp?) sulfate. These are damaging chemicals to hair and scalp. I have a lot of hair, yet it is fine. Let us rejoice that we have hair, even if thinning! Seventeen years ago I had chemo and was totally bald! So, number one, I am still alive to be with my family, and number two, I have a decent head of hair.

Castor oil for hair loss works on scalp and eyebrows. It's important to massage or stimulate the scalp, especially for people who wash their hair only twice a week. Pores clogged with dry skin and product buildup can be a cause of hair loss. Find a shampoo with the least amount of chemicals.

As children in Africa we used to use mashed up ripe Avocados for conditioning our hair. I can't stand the taste but apparently it's excellent if you eat it , too. Thyroid problems and iron deficiency can also be making hair loss worse. I actually spray Johnsons baby conditioner into my hair when it's wet and it works so well. Really cheap but keeps it feeling soft and lovely. I love your short hair.xx

I have thinning hair so I try to wash it only once every 3 days. Normally my hair will look greasy the day after washing it so to prevent this, I use a tinted dry shampoo. This will allow my hair to not look greasy for up to 4 days. In terms of coloring, I am also not ready to grow grey and I am 61! I do however use a nice hair oil by Kerastase on the tips of my hair after washing it and before blowdrying. It also keeps my hair from looking dry. One major thing is to always have a nice haircut. Your short hair looks fabulous by the way Frederique!

I've been dying my hair for fun since I was 16 and I'm not ready to go grey either. I'm 56 but dying my fine, dark hair every three weeks was causing massive hair loss. In my opinion, no amount of healthy eating, mineral water or gizmos will counteract the effect of hair dye - it's brutal!:( So for several months I've replaced the dye with a semipermanent rinse - Schwarzkopf Live Colour Blueberry - it contains no ammonia or peroxide so it's very gentle. It's still a compromise, but the hair loss has stopped and the new hair growth is significant.

I’m 50 and post menopausal, on HRT. I’ve researched a little bit and it looks like hair is impacted by trace minerals (esp if graying early, like me). In the US we are no longer able to get enough trace minerals from our meat and veggies, even if they’re organic-due to poor farming practices here. We seem to be getting better about using electrolytes when we sweat, but that can throw off our trace minerals too (doesn’t always, but it can). So it may be something for some of us to look at more closely. I’m getting blood work done soon and it will be interesting to see what my numbers are. One thing that has helped my hair stay thick is collagen. I’ve used it daily for 5 1/2 yrs and I see hair regrowth all the time. Lots of baby hairs all over my head! About 6 months after I started taking it, I went to my stylist and she asked me what I was doing, so she saw the difference. It has affected my fingernail and toenail growth too. I need to trim my fingernails about every 4 days and my toenails every week. I use Vital Proteins chocolate flavored, but I also use the unflavored in my coffee or green smoothie as well. Vital Proteins has collagen types 1, 2, and 3. With these 3 types of collagen I know it’s helping my nails, skin, hair and joints (which menopause has not been very kind to).

Have you tried to mix the coconut oil with the castor oil? That's what I do. It really thins out the castor oil, lets it absorb into your skin and you get the benefits of both. Oral finasteride and minoxidil tablets as well as prescription strength finasteride/minoxidil solution can be very helpful. As for the grey.....my mom was close to 90 in a nursing home and still insisted she have her hair dyed. I feel the same. I will never go grey. I love it on other women but it's not for me. Thank you for making this video!

Losing one's hair is difficult. Especially for us women. Going through menopause I lost a lot of hair & it was quite a shock when my hairdresser suggested to have it cut. However, we did it slowly in 3 stages and I am quite happy now with chin length. Hairloss slowed down considerably reaching my 60s if this is of any consolation. Due to genetics I still have my dark hair with the occasional streaks at the temples. However, I decided to go lighter and a bit warmer bc. I looked so tired all the time. I found that once I embraced this just being another transitional phase in my life like puberty (and who likes puberty?) I could better cope with the changes. BTW: I like your short hair.

I have recently cut my hair to a long bob, as it was layered and I feel the ends were looking a little ratty, im not quite ready to go any shorter, but I get the same effect by wearing it up. Being 67yrs old, I still put a semi permanent colour in my haie(dark blonde with highlights) the colour adds warmth to my face, grey would probably drain my color and Id need to wear more makeup. I agree many women Rock Grey hair, but im not quite ready, also my husband doesn't want me to go grey 😂😂😂

When I go for a color I always ask the hairdresser to just blow dry 3/4 of the length, never from the roots, sometimes just wash and go. I use the same hair shampoo/conditioner as you, mostly wash my hair one/twice a week. I call my hair beach hair, although I now I hardly go to the beach. Lovely finding your YT channel. I’m going to France for the first time in September 😃

Hello lovely Ms Frederique, i always look forward to your videos! I used to dye my hair with chemicals for many years- i began going gray in my 20s!! However i have switched from chemical dyes to henna in the last several years and it's been a game changer. I only use Ancient Sunrise henna and indigo, for my preferred shade of deep auburn. Using herbs like henna, cassia, and indigo, one can achieve many different shades. So my personal ratio is about 65% henna/35% indigo. The best part is that because it is herbal, my scalp does not burn or itch, like with chemical dyes. I do it myself at home and because my hair is short, it is very inexpensive. Once the henna powder has been dye released with water, you can freeze it until you're ready to use. I mix the henna with indigo then cover with a shower cap, wrap with a warm towel and go to bed! I will say it's a bit of a messy ritual however the herbs are soothing to my scalp and it definitely improves the overall health of my hair. I know that there are sub-par, low quality "henna" products out there, so be sure to do your research. The creator of ancient sunrise henna did her doctoral thesis on these plants and the use of henna throughout history, she really knows her stuff! Sorry for the long post but, I'm 47 and definitely not ready to go gray.. why would i when i (finally) absolutely love my hair color?!

Your hair looks very progressive short! Despite my mature age now, my hair didn’t start to look good until my late 30’s. It is so fine, so when I grow it long, it drags and there are gaps. Long hair looks sexier on women who have thicker hair. Growing my hair shoulder length long, then cutting it back into a lob (long bob) six times a year makes my hair look healthier. Maybe grow, cut, grow, cut, grow cut shapes up my hair.

OMG, it's a love-hate relationship with getting older and hair getting gray and thinner. I am 73 yrs old. for 50 years I highlighted my medium brown hair. When COVID hit, I said I was tired of spending so much to highlight my hair and decided to let my hair grow gray. Seeing pictures on KZbin and Instagram, the women were beautiful. Big mistake. After 3 years, I said I can't do it anymore. The gray hair did nothing for me but made me look even older than I was. I am now back to highlighting my hair but through gray hair, and I can live with that.

I too have an auto-immune disease. My hair has always been very fine anyway and at 62 it can be a challenge! I know when I become unwell my thinning hair is the first thing I notice. I’ve worn wigs before and probably will again. One tip I’ve discovered when buying wigs is that European wigs have a much more realistic hair density and there are more wigs in my petite head size available from British and European wig sites. I also had to learn how to style and adjust and style my wigs….very different to styling natural hair. Luckily there are now many KZbin channels that offer wig reviews and so much help and advice in that regard.

I think what works for one person doesn’t always work for another. I agree that using professional products is a must. I stopped coloring my hair ten years ago and love my grey hair. It is thinning and the ends are dry. I use Redken Extreme shampoo and conditioner twice a week. I also use an oil treatment on the mid shaft to the ends of my hair once a week. I only use hairspray if I am going out somewhere and want m style to stay put otherwise I just leave it alone. Thank you for addressing this issue Frédérique. Sending best wishes for all of us struggling with thinning hair.❤❤❤

Castor oil works and its cheap. Apply when you go to bed but the oil is thick and sticky. It doesn't matter because it works. There are plenty of videos on KZbin about it. It worked for me. I got a bottle at Walmart for about $3.00

Bonjour encore! I’ve always bought a quality shampoo and conditioner from my hair dresser. I wash it every day. I use à haïr wrap , then blow dry very lightly. I use a correct blow dry brush, the only use a Afro comb after. I’m 61 now and have also added Sudzz leave on hair conditioner and every other day, I massage in organic rosemary or cold pressed almond oil at night. As well, I do a hair mask every couple of weeks. I usually color my roots myself, but do get it professionally done a few times a year . I’m not ready yo go grey, no way. In Canada, we get the coldest colds and the hottest hots. I live at my cottage, so am an outside girl. It works for me.

I think your short hair is very attractive. Nicer than the bob. I colored my hair for about forty years. I wasn't ready to go silver until I was ready. I was thinking about doing it and then we had lock-down so yeah I did it. I love it. The hair is thicker and healthier. I'm also happy with the color, but I was ready. Oh, and my curls came back! I keep it a medium length. I could have short hair or I can have grey hair. I'm not ready for short, grey hair. It looks nice on others but I'm not ready for that , so we all have limits, LOL.

So much appreciation to you Frederique, I understand how you are struggling with all of this. Bravo dear woman ❤ I am so lucky to have good hair that is still thick (but not as much as when young, I am 68). A few things I have noticed in myself: if I have been sick for example, & I wash & style my hair, it looks flat & limp until I have recovered. Also my eyes lose their colour until I am better! We are truly an ecosystem 😅 I only wash my hair every 5 or 6 days. I have not coloured it since I was 40 & have some frontal grey which I am liking - but will see how it progresses. I love your hair short, & also that lovely warm chocolatey, plum colour on you.

Hello Miss Frederique. Thank you for addressing this issue. My daughter and I, both, have this same problem. She has had this going on for years now and she's only 30. Plus, she has this gorgeous long wavy red hair. She has a serum that her doctor prescribed but she also sleeps in a silk bonnet and on a silk pillow. She swears by them. I hope that will be of use to anyone. I, on the other hand, will be 60 this year and sport lots of grey (salt and pepper) hair. I have a question though. As you know, post-menapause can be hard on your skin as well as the hair. Can you, at some point, do a video on aging skin? I could really use some help. My issue is crapey skin. Thank you so much for addressing these issues. ❤

I got my first grey hair at 37 and have been 90% grey for years. During COVID I decided to let my grey grow out and I'm so happy. It's a lovely shade of silver and quite shiny. I have thought of colouring it for a change but have decided I will get a really sassy short hairstyle to freshen it up instead. I have used Nizoral to help with excess shedding and my hair is thickening again.

Lost maybe 40% of my hair from long covid, like really quickly, and my silver hairs won't take colour now, so I just thought, go with it, and I have. I'm getting used to it, it's been quick at the front ,but the back hasn't changed, odd, but I never see it, so I imagine I'm a glorious concrete blonde amazon lady, who may look older now, but will still look the same 20 years from now, but healthier, stronger and happier ❤

Going grey is such a personal choice and you should only do it when it feels right for you. Five years ago, I cut off all of my long blonde (dyed - I am a natural brunette) hair off and just grew out my natural grey. Best move I ever made! My hair is now super long, soft and silky and my hair loss has drastically reduced. I have just turned 50.

I'm 60. I'm not ready yet either. I've been not colouring my hair for a few months because my natural hair is a beautiful bright white, really pretty, but i don't want ALL my hair this colour so i think i will put lowlights and highlights in to mesh it a bit better (i'm growing out medium/light brown hair). And you are so chic, Frederique! Thank you for your videos, i really enjoy them. (hi from Canada)

Great video. Two things that helped me... I've used an amazing brand of collagen powder for about four years now and I use it daily in my coffee. Its from Perfect Supplements and has no flavor at all and I think it helps my hair grow faster and I saw my sun spots fade a bit with it too. Also when I see excessive shedding happening for more than a couple weeks, I get on Bosley hair vitamins for women. I'm not kidding, I went from tons of hair in the shower when washing to NONE. And when I would take my hair band out and always see several hairs, I see nothing when on these. Its pretty inexpensive so the vitamins are what I recommend to anyone having that issue too. Btw, I'm 54 and post menopause.

It depends on the Doctor. I have had three women doctors that went on and on about hormones. Aging, etc. It was a man that looked at my medications were the cause. He gave me a complete understanding of hair. New medications will change hair in six to 3 months. Also stress, accident, shampoos, etc.keep track of your changes it can make a real difference.😊
