you have to pay an exorbitant fee for part 3, only people from rich families can pay the fee- it contains the real secrets of wing chun...the essentials which yip man were never privy to.

Yip man was from a wealthy family, he did learn enough to be regarded as a master in his own right. It is true his fame has been exaggerated by movies. Each master adapts and interpreted what they learnt, for better or worse, old and original is not necessarily better, newer modified is not necessarily better either. To indulge in all the propaganda infighting between the different schools is a waste of time.

@@Niatnuom_Esiotrot I thought the OP was making a joke about part 3 of the secret history of wing chun (this video is part 2)... but to your other points, the infighting and trash talking is a waste of time, however holding a celebration of Wing Chun that has a bit of competitiveness can be healthy, and I wish more schools could get around their egos to do that.... in other martial arts competitions it's not the sparring alone that defines "best school" they have forms and breaking and other demonstrations and even if a single school dominates it doesn't mean they are better than aaaallll the other schools and students leave one and go to another because another school has more trophies, but for some reason WC lineages think and talk and act like it will.

That is very true, the YKS line is very different from the Ip Man line. Not many of Ip Man's lineage can do the things that we can do. Just yesterday my friends were having a discussion on MMA vs Traditional Martial arts and the main case the MMA people were bringing up was how lacking Wing Chun is. The problem is that many of Ip Man's lineage doesn't have the full picture. We have a test for any one that comes to our "school" and say they've studied Wing Chun.

Our teacher is an a doctor who specializes in fixing the body. We're taught usually when someone hooks to do an Lan sau choong chui (Cantonese). But one major thing about blocking is that as long as your "fa lik" is correct, blocking in either directions isn't a problem.

Part 2: the test is basically pinning the right arm to the left hip. do a bong sau. So far no one from the Ip Man lineage has done it. the issue is the missing principles. Sadly more and more people are starting to say that Wing Chun is an external art. But the issue is the majority of practitioners are doing it externally. Fundamentally the concepts changed too. In our practices most of the turns are for attacking, we mostly defend squared to our opponents allowing better range of motion.

We were taught, you can block incoming attacks with anything, right on right, left on right doesn't matter. For us, the Han sau is our gan sau, where the arm turns out and the palm is facing down. The block we have that is similar to a gan sau, but the palm turned up doesn't move the same way, we drop the elbow, the forearm follows to block incoming strike. This is used for low strikes.

the main issue is that such techniques as the attacking bong sao was lost in other lines of wing chun. There's more technical differences between the two family lines and there's also a philosophical difference too. I'm not saying one is better then the other. but to say we can use it this way and that way is kind of irresponsible, because they have different backgrounds and structures behind the technique. We can do an attacking bong, but not everyone can.

for those that have a hard time dealing with power, you should work on learning how to "fa" power, or dissipate it. It's not as much about how to intercept power as to how to redirect and dissipate it. The physics behind it is pretty simple actually. Basic physics, if force traveling in one plane can and will be redirected by force in another, without effort. I know it's easier said then done, but that's why you have to go out and see how it works yourself.

our bong can come from outside in, to inside out. upper bong strikes known as pow bong is used for attacking arms while a low bong is used for attack rib cages. the lan used for attacking is called a pai jong, and is similar to the bong except that a low bong still has all the structure while the pai drops the wide angle and so it only used the elbow. a low bong uses both elbow and wrist.

dap sau can be used inside and outside, but both is actually called the inside dap sau, it's because of the part of the arm that touches the opponent. The actually term for us is to to the outside, or to the inside. an outside dap sau is a tan

well the other thing is that we split off from Sum Nung and study what Sum Jee taught. but the blocks that i was taught, no matter how strong the hook is, you can block it without turning the body. Using proper structure and knowing how to dissipate power from the opponent, you don't have to turn. the other thing is, inorder for him to strike again, he has to pull back his previous hand, we either trap that or when he moves back step in and strike back.

The test is the pinning of the arm, it's a test of structure and principle. Pin the arm to their hip and tell them to do a bong sau.
@TwystedDriver

we have many many different kinds of bong sau, it's because we believe that every type of sau has an up mid down inside outside back and forth versions of every sau. I'll try and get a video of the test up but it might take me a little while.

In foshan not only yuan key shan were the best also yiu choy and Yip Man. They called wing chun 3 heros in foshan. This dude said thing were part true but not all exactly true. The truth only within a leung jan lineage coz related with hung suen member Wong Wah Bo and Leung Yi Tai. Yuan key shan only related with fung siu ching group ONLY Red boat opera were related with ng mui line.

The other thing is I watched the attacking bong sau in the video and it seems a lot more like an attacking lan sau. the attacking bong sau that we use actually attacks with the wrist.
@TwystedDriver

the issue is not that the hand is free, the right hand is pinned to the left side of the hip by someone who's applying force to keep it there. Do a bong sau. Not as an oh shit block, and not to return to the Wu sau before extending. It's been what we've used to test when people from other lineages come by. But this could just be from our side of YKS's wing chun. We split off and we're now doing a variation that follow's Sum Jee's style of wing chun.

Lol when my teacher was younger, he went out to fight others, and he made it work. Any art can work, just gotta figure out how to apply it. I'm still laughing at the stories of his sparing. I do train in another form of martial art, but in the same category. MMA mostly being external, interferes with my internal wing chun training.

It's actually pretty funny we were talking about the differences in names an how everything is essentially the same thing just with the difference in hand position. But wouldn't the inside to outside palm down be gan sao? I think for us, what you're referring to is what we call dop sao. But I might need a visual confirmation. I'm not quite sure what which one you're referring to.

TwystedDriver good lord.. just when I thought I was beginning to really grasp the yip man lineage of wing chun and it's usefulness in modern, western fighting.. you come along with more names I don't know (dap sao?) descriptions I can't quite comprehend because it's near impossible to describe WC fighting techniques in words alone, and totally destroying my theory of movements like bong sau by telling me it's actually an attacking hand... I honestly see some new approach to WC so often that even after half a decade studying I sincerely feel like giving up sometimes and transitioning to a more concrete style where the basic theory isn't always changing let alone the approach to using the shapes or techniques. Do you have videos demonstrating your art? I would love to get a visual representation of what you're saying and see what these movements are in your approach to WC.

Wow it's amazing how people will slam the dead but never said any of this when he was alive. Ip Man was involved in the GMD nationalist movement and ocaisionally taught at Zhong yi assoc certainly not a Japanese friendly. Further Yuen and Ip were good friends what does this say about Yuen? You would be offended if I said, Yuen worked as a lawyer for the Japanese puppet government? (No I don't really think this but the point is anyone can make up anything without proof. This isn't how to honor your Sifu)

Ip man wasn`t running from Japaneses, he was running from china communist ruling. The Japaneses was in china a few years before the time Ip man feed from his home town. The movies are cool and love them but bares mixed stories at the same time. Some of it is not true, why would china make a movie, making them the bad guys? SO let put Japanese in the mixs.

Practice what works, test everything for oneself, without experience one knows nothing at all..... A beginner only kno s basics, an advance student will explore every possiblity of improving the art as is the whole progression from beginner to advance, everyone has a destiny if they practice it will manifest, why bother, why not... .
