ABOUT ME
Hi! My name is Margot and I am a professional artist and graphic designer. My parents like to joke that I was born with a paintbrush in hand. I started my career after graduating from the renown Parsons School of Design in New York City and spent over 15 years creating and designing for many of the world's top Fortune 500 brands and companies. My painting journey started as a side project and a creative outlet for me to step away from the computer, go back to my "roots" in fine art and to hone my skills as an illustrator and painter. I started posting some of my work on instagram and the rest is history. My work is inspired by all the things that I am passionate about. Ballet, travel, graphic design, color and finding a world of beauty in all facets of everyday life. I hope you'll join me in this KZbin journey as I take you through all the tips, tricks and trade secrets I've gathered throughout the years. I hope I can teach you some of what I know, help you discover your creative voice and I hope you enjoy this Channel!

Thanks This was fabulous. I teach dyslexic students, but my primary job is teaching teachers to teach dyslexic students how to read. One of my presentations is teaching the different task jobs/talents of right/left hemispheric dominance. You have just done a fabulous job of demonstrating and describing the difference in an artistic way. Everything you said also applies to learning to read. I love it when the science of reading and the science of art collide (probably combine would be a better word.)

Thank you so much Anne! What incredible inspiring work you do. It must make a huge difference to your students to have a teacher that cares so much about what they teach and about the outcome of her students. ps. thank you for the gift as well. It means the world to me!

Hullo Margot, I think this is an excellent tip for phone use! I watched another artist making pastel paintings and they took a photo of a reference and turned it gray and dialed up the contrast to allow the artist to see blocks of shades and create a better under-painting! Wonderful tips Margot, Thanks and Please keep them coming!

I think the left side of my brain needs an off switch (or at least a dimmer switch!) 😂 My job is VERY left side dominant so I really struggle to let my right side have a say in things! In art I always seem to get bogged down in details and patterns (and paint quite "tight") and completely miss any of the sense of "life" to my art. I would love to add more of a sense of freedom to it.

One thing I love doing is taking picture of a piece I'm working on at various stages, partially to post on my socials and send to friends, but also I tend to catch problems I wasn't seeing before in my piece that I should fix. Sometimes I'll even make sure to flip it horizontally in case there's others I'm not catching. Smartphones are so incredibly helpful, especially these days with how much details it can capture!

Nice tips- good use for the phone- especially like the composition tip- always struggle with gettin a good composition- cropping down can help zoom into what is important in a scene and exclude much of what isn't needed- can help focus in on say an s-curve, structure, texture, or whatever it is that the scene is about.

If you drop the photo into a graphics program, like MS Paint or Coreldraw, you can use the dropper tool to isolate individual colors in every regen of the image. This is good for beginners, who want to understand all of the colors in an image. But don't get caught up in pixelization. Especially since rgb values don't correlate to color mixing in paints.

I let my watercolor teacher, destroyed my confidence when I was 19. I decided to eliminate the color that day, and just work with black . I was really excited about what I was learning that day. My teacher said” if I wanted to sit there and play…”. My 19 year old self had no confidence. ( I was art/psych). I only went back to class when I had to to complete the course. Somewhere -- perhaps here on y.t. with another artist -- it was asserted that we could better see the variations in values of our subject by laying a piece of RED ACETATE over the subject. Has anyone else heard that? Has anyone else TRIED it ?!? I keep forgetting to get such a thing when I'm out & about. (Doesn't $🌳 carry notebook dividers that are full pages of acetate?? My luv. Have you freaking noticed the payoff in SUBSCRIBER STATUS in correlation to your, 'clever as ever' declination video, you remember that silly ol thing that gave me a heart attack where you say, "I just can't do this anymore". Cruel Trick YOU BEEEEP YOU! You can't tease a gay super fan like that. I was seconds away from pulling a modern Romeo and Julieta. Luckily, saved by the truth bell...you go on to say your going to need some time, because your baby, our baby...the Margot Show is calling for a conjunction of all things sugar and spice...she's calling out for better production value, editing, content, etcetera. WOW...I am super happy I've officially, unofficially made you my go to entertainment and educational power-house for all things watercolor, art education, and thank Aphrodite... my beautiful Scrumdiddlyumptious, eloquent and effervescence educational goddess, in her own right. Sorry, nite time ADHD Museum and rattling-on. I know you know what I mean. BRAVO DARLING, BRAVO! I couldn't be more interested or happier. As you might recall....I adore you. And my hand touching the value of truth...your channel, character, comedic prowess, and so on. It's my favorite artistic show to watch when it comes to watercolor with a smear of delicious, freshly cooked up, brain food for the masses. So, thank you kindly, Margot and congratulations on all the positive feedback I keep reading, concerning your newly vamped channel. It truly shows that you TOTALLY had a mission in mind. And starting to pay off in SUBSCRIBER STATUS IT IS! XO - JAMES OH MY GOD... I forget to mention, I died, hardcore where you mentioned spacial awareness and that girl just...WAMS - and hits the concrete wall. That was HILARIOUS
