The Secrets behind Monster Hunter's Flagships:
In every single title and expansion of the monster hunter series, each game’s roster has one member in particular that is put into the spotlight way more than the rest. Formerly known as flagships, those monsters are frequently present in its game’s marketing and possess a somewhat higher relevance in either gameplay or narrative in the entry they belong to.
Nergigante, Velkhana, Magnamalo and Malzeno are all the flagships of the 5th generation, but beyond those 4 there have been many many others with the same role throughout the 20 years of the franchise’s existence: from Gore magala to Brachydios, zinogre, tigrex, nargacuga and even Rathalos…. 6 times.
Due to their special treatment they are naturally amongst the most recognizable and popular monsters the IP has to offer, but despite all of this, it is still unclear why these specifically were chosen and what for; do they serve a more important purpose in its respective debut title? Or are they more of a mascot than anything else?

At 3:41 there is a mistake from my part where i mention that magnamalo is an elder dragon, that is in fact incorrect as the monster is actually a fanged wyvern, my apologies for the mistake and thank you zairea.4605 for pointing that out

Magnamalo is a Fanged Wyvern, not a Flying Wyvern.

​@@DDVikingyeah 5th gen has been very elder dragon heavy both in Flagship and in general I hope they take a break, a snake wyvern Flagship would be perfact for wilds I think, I'd also like to see the bugs get a chance aswell

I hope one day we can get back to a Tigrex or Lagiacrus like Flagship where it's just a deadly apex predator that's threatening the village for one reason or another, get back to basics, I also hope we get a break from getting new elder dragons, 5th gen has been very elder dragon heavy and I think we need a break

Yeah, I can understand why they did it in world (given that they’re a major plot point in that game) and Malzeno I’m not all that upset about either since I like what they did with its lore and role in the plot, but I do agree that I’d be nice to get some non-elder flagships for a little bit.

Even if I dislike gore magala and I prefer shagaru magala, I think that you were right when you talked about how the gore magala fight is so intense and you did a nice work. My only issue is that the main flagship you talked about is gore magala.
