Am I remembering this right: The exploit with blood golem wayyy back was that if you cast iron maiden on a pack, the returned damage registered as if the golem had done that damage in an attack and therefore leeched life from it; making the necro functionally immortal as long as the golem was surrounded.
@Alzorath2 жыл бұрын
pretty much (was a little more complex than that, but that was the general mechanic, yes) - you were pretty much immortal unless focused down by ranged/elemental damage.

Thanks for the info. The fire golem is best in slot for a summoner. Bramble on merc gives it thorns aura. Bosses already do 4x dmg to it and with its fire aura it holds aggro. So when the bosses attack it they do 4x their damage to it which is multiplied by thorns aura and reflected back to the boss. Ez mode. Works best on players 8.

The understated point from this guide for new players is that in online play the iron golem is huge help with leveling. You can easily find a Immortal Kings Maul or other similar high damage weapons with high crushing blow or other helpful perks that will allow the golem to just go around 1-shotting enemies - the perfect setup for corpse explosion. This combo can help you power through normal and nightmare in no time flat.

As with many of the other skills in the Necro kit, there is so much wasted potential here. Normally I only get points in a golem just to get down to Summon Resist or Revive and forget about it after popping my clay golem once per game. imo the two issues with golems are first their damage on hit, and second the lack of any meaningful synergies. I mentioned it in the CE video, but I would love to see a fire centric build that synergized Fire golem, CE and LR while leaning on the Trang set. this could easily be replicated on any of the other golems, however being forced to take points in a golem you don't use really cripples the build potential for me. The one golem-centric build I have seen that has "Decent" effect, is a P1 pure CE-Infinity-Insight set where the only summon is a buffed iron golem (insight) and the rest of the points are put into maxing CE and Amp. The merc (infinity) and golem burn down the first mob with a telestomp and amp and then the Necro CE's the rest down and teleports on at 125% FCR. it is potentially faster than the Nova build at clearing P1 trash, but the gameplay is super boring and real slow doing bosses.

@Alzorath2 жыл бұрын
I usually recommend against pride or infinity golems due to the cost in making them, and the fact that golems will die due to mediocre ai more than anything - and to make them 'golemancer' levels, requires a main-skill level investment (80+ points) - the funny thing about using Iron Golem for it, is that you don't bother maxing IG - the focus should be on the synergies (blood for life, fire for damage, clay for attack rating) - so when doing a golemancer I usually only have 1 point in my IG.

@@terrodar19 there are actually some fixes floating around for those skills, but you are right we have no indication that anything is going to be done with them. Personally I would love to see all poison effects stacking into a rolling debuff because at present there is an anti-synergy between poison builds. a stacking debuff would make poison dagger a SUPER lethal boss killer, and if the cloud left by PE did multiple instances of its effect it would also be crazy lethal. I would love to see the Fire Golem get a synergy with CE and maybe LR or SR. you could move some of CE's Fire damage into the synergy to tone it down a bit, and buff the Fire golems physical damage from CE. LR or SR should provide a buff to both mages and Fire golem with a flat increase to damage passively, which would give us a reason to take more than 1 point in it. imo the whole summoning tree needs a major rework: both masteries need to be consolidated, summon resist should do more than be a flat buff (or also get consolidated), and CE should be moved to the summoning tree, just to start with.

If you value teleport and think enigma is the best item in the game, by that same notion, clay golem is the best golem of the golems. The reason being utility is king. The clay golem slow by itself is monumental usually getting at least 60% slow on enemies it hits or enemies that hit it. When you combine this with decrepify, which slows movement speed, attack speed, and lowers damage of enemy AND increases physical dmg received, bosses become immobilized. It’s a no brainer, at least for bosses. Necro doesn’t need infinity. I always use insight for necro on the merc.

the only one I really can't build around is the blood one sadly - but yea, clay is the best consistent pick - iron requires a specific plan, and fire is for a very specific aggro build.

This game was only ever designed with normal in mind. I don't think they ever intended for people to replay the game to nightmare or hell difficulty but threw it in there just in case. If you look at all the items that were released with the initial game, everything is geared around normal gameplay.
@Alzorath2 ай бұрын
It's a bit of a misunderstanding of the design - the original release the game was designed around normal being the gear up, nightmare for playing with uniques/rares, and then hell gear requiring extremely rare drops in top-tier rares/magic items ( much like Diablo 1 ) - gems were pretty fun too, but usually mostly useful in norm/nightmare. Early LoD was a difficulty shift, where new additions made the game significantly easier in nightmare/hell (nightmare uniques were more than strong enough for hell - as were many runewords). Then came a difficulty pass - with the greater focus on immunities and such, as well as the acceleration of gear to compensate (to an extent), that made it what it is now - where normal is the warmup and experiment (with a bit of challenge because you have no gear), nightmare being the 'power fantasy' since you're coming into the zone with properly leveled top tier skills, but not dealing with the hell spike - and then hell meant to challenge the normal player without min-maxed gear (min-maxed gear makes hell a cake walk in all eras of the game - and did the same with D1 as well)
