A cage is a cage eventhough if it is golden. A slave is a slave eventhough if the slave is dressed in silk and lives in luxury. Nobody should be seen as the property of anyone, this is something even our modern societies still have to learn.

@Meph Lest exactly arabs r considered white because when they started to migrate to the US the Americans didn’t no how to label them so they put them with the white category. Its bizarre because even “white” Americans r not completely white they r just obsessed with skin color. When a race is actually more of a language, history nd culture than a mere color.

Poor women. Being kidnapped, sold and then enslaved by a complete different culture and tongue. Losing their families, religion and very own culture to a sultan. The women who climbed their way to the top had no other way or they’d forever be seen as sex slaves. Good for them that the (haseki) sultanas made use of their intelligence and made use of their beauty and brains.

Never again saw their family, never had a chance for normal life and were abused and raped! This is not a romantic story about "pOwEr Of SeX" my God....I wish you could listen to the songs of my people, singing about how fathers tried to protect their daugters from being taken to the harem and the Turks cut all his limbs and let him die or slowly roasted him in front of his family.... This was slavery! Our women were kidnapped for sex slavery, our boys were taken for the army and that's about it! Nothing beautiful in it!

Especially when one of the harem woman killed herself after her son was murdered. "She failed to fulfill her role to keep her son, the prince, alive" [loosely quoted from one of these narrators]. Or maybe the only joy she had in captivity was her child. Then her child was brutally murdered. I am a female and I think it is sick that women are breathlessly romanticizing this terrible fate.

There are people in positions of power who do a great deal of good, who wouldn't be able to have as great a reach without being in that specific position. Think charities, for example. The notion that "power" is always the root of evil sort of falls apart once you give it any critical thought.

Gotta LOVE that women were burnt at the stake or punished for wanting true love while their "husbands" married over a dozen. It seems so unfair. They change and control their bodies asking for specifics while these men were dirty unkempt and unholy. "I want a woman with a flat stomach" says the man with the giant beer gut 😭. Worst part about sex is that men aren't ever physically affected only pleased while women suffered traumas, tearing, bleeding, broken bones, unwanted pregnancies and sensitivity to infections that causes swelling and huge pain and discomfort. Imagine being slaved under such circumstances

@marouane Attahali Taken totally out of context, or without context. The Midianite virgins were not killed in Numbers 31:17-18 because they did not participate in the idolatrous sin of Baal at Peor. This was about worshiping false gods e.g. Baal or AIIah.

One or two of the women narrators in this video seem to take strange delight in the stories they were telling. It was very disturbing, as was the subject matter. The killings. The stranglings. The splitting of heads. The castration of Eunuchs. The betrayals done by some of the mothers and by some men. The whole society was sickening and terrifying. Cannot imagine this kind of life and terror. "She was prepared to sacrifice her own son ..... "And had Ibrahim strangled." OMG. Is this kind of thing going on today?

Yeah, it’s a horror story. But they keep sanitizing it because they don’t know how the real people felt (and I’m sure they don’t want to insult the culture). So, there’s a lot of comforting distance between their narrative and the true reality. It allows them to embellish things. What irritated me was when one of the speakers said they would have material comforts and the prospects of being the sultan’s main consort. That’s hardly a realistic prospect with dozens of other random girls and women being collected in that place over time. The reality of steep competition would rarely be worth any hope. The material comforts would get under-stimulating eventually since you can’t leave the area. Not to mention having no rights over your own children that you give birth to after a forced interaction. Never seeing your family again.. not knowing the language.. Omg. What misery. It’s worse than a prison. At least prisoners get to have visitors and family letters. 😢 I’d pray for death every day in this situation.

Firstly, this video had absolutely nothing to do with "Sharia Law". :) Secondly "Sharia" just means legislation. It is not any single thing. 10 different countries could have 10 different sharias. When dickheads like the Taliban speak about the enforcement of Sharia, they are talking about their own interpretation of how things should run. It isn't something universally believed by all Muslims. Fact of the matter is that the Sharia of most western countries already is closer to the Quranic ideology than most (if not all) Muslim countries, i.e, justice, human rights, rights of women and children etc. And as for why do Muslim countries today seem socially so backward compared to their western counterparts? For that you have to look into the history of European colonialism. And how, even to this day the western powers use their influence to keep dictators and criminals in power in many Muslim countries. It is not because they are against Islam. This isn't about religion, it is about economic interests. The powers that be, use things like God and country because it is easier to make people fight and hate each other over those things. tldr - "Sharia Law" is just a boogey man that some of your men in power use to keep their control over you.

How many of those African eunuchs perished on their way to Istanbul. Those that eventually found themselves in Topkapı were considered lucky...
@DomXereX
@DomXereX 2 жыл бұрын
These women were primarily slaves. Slaves with only one purpose and without any rights. It is pretentious when someone from the west says that some of them had power. They may have had an impact but also in one second of the sultan’s whim they could lose their head and no one would ever know about them again. They had no right as mothers of the children they gave birth to. They could take away their children or forbid them to see their children whenever they wanted. Those women were not women. They were an object that someone owned. Just like slaves in America or in the English colonies. (Please do not accuse me of colonialism, we in Eastern Europe have often been the subject of the wishes of your very imperialism) The position of these women will be best known to Afromaric women historians. I don’t want to be too pretentious but I think even African slaves in America had greater rights than those unfortunates from the harem. Prisoners in prison have far more rights because no one can kill them just because they want to, they have the right to visit and much much more. I don’t know if you noticed but the system treated those women at the level of a breeding cow, nothing more. The harem is not at all a romantic place as Protestant culture tries to portray it. You have nothing to admire or glorify there. DO NOT forget that these are primarily abducted and enslaved Christian women who were forcibly converted to Islam and changed their name. It is not multicultural at all. They still do not share your views on multiculturalism. Even more, they consider it a sign of weakness.

I think it's unhealthy to judge this topic based on today's moral and cultural situation. If you are watching this just try to imagine yourself there in those times, those circumstances just for 1,5 hours...try to be open to a deeper understanding of the past instead of completely rejecting it based on the present.

This should be a cautionary tale of what could happen if we let anarchists take over. This is what happens when defund the police and judiciary. The most important persons in Ottoman empire were the Queen Mother & Shaikh ul Islam apart from Sultan & they had the power over sultan in reconsidering any decision. The Ottomans preferred slaves over princess or women of Nobel family because the princes might rebel against the Sultan.The slave girls of ottoman harrem were taught poetry, politics, music or other subjects like chemistry, mathematics. The girls were chosen by Sultan's mother. These girls were monthly paid.Those who were not excelled in education & skills were married off by the Queen Mother.The Ottoman empire were in need to ensure enough male descendants so that their empire last long.But in order to avoid civil war,the other brothers were killed. The mothers of the ottoman princes were sent to provinces with their son to govern a kingdom & they would return back to the capital only if their son could be the Sultan.In harrem, the girls lost their freedom unless they could become the Haseki sultan.Well,the harrem & Janissary corps were behind all politics, plot & conspiracy in Ottoman empire.

It appears to me that harem life was good. The alternative was perhaps drudgery and often poverty. Women are ingenious...they would have known much about politics and intrigue and lived well. I think that if I were "enslaved" within a harem and escaped that I would very soon have desired a return to harem life.

we black nobles saved your neighboring countries, by having more of you, now you're safer, YOUR WELCOME ! well I'm part that and part that. I love white women and dream of having a white child, idk why but I think it's genetic, historic, grandios. Being dark skinned turk, or dark skinned moroccan/algerian/tunisian, is like being a God of your community, your community that expands to Europe, we are pretty much very pro white, some times maybe pro "physically vulnerable" smart black people, that's how we ruled, your black grandfathers died for you, I am part of these grandfathers, they ran with us under the rain thunder floods, and erased whole villages, just for you and me, because we were the weakest point in the fully black society. Now the other thing is, that the direct descendants of our grandfathers, they're still around, we need their power, their smile, their soul, their love their advise, your grandfather and mine are still around, it's in us and in them, do you really love him ? do you love the societies he dreamt for us ? Let's help our good cousins, let's return the love, and revive what they made, all our societies are depressed

Ladies, you do NOT have to be anyone's concubine. This gross and corrosive indignity did not used to be a custom of our society and never should be. Sex with someone you are not married to is very different from marriage and becoming parents through one another. Marriage is for life, in fidelity, it is for family and is constructive. Concubinage or any sort of fornication is always exploitive. Wake up!
