Yes, I know: most people only buy a car to go from A to B. Not me. For me, a car is also emotion. I don't want a boring (looking) car. So, if I ever buy a Toyota again, it might be a Supra. I had two Toyota's from the 80's. They were rust buckets. One of them was technically ok, but the other one was unreliable.

Not so much subsidiaries, but they work closely with their independent suppliers to make sure the parts are fab'd just as they are designed, and to change the designs as necessary. A lot of vendors who work with a certain type of material (like a metal or plastic) were great resources for improving a part if they knew what you were going to use it for. (I used to work as a vendor Q.C. engineer for a large aerospace parts & subassemblies manufacturer).

toyota's quality is just unmatched.Tesla,hyundai,kia and it goes on all have terrible build quality and they dont even work on it.They only focus on making their car more efficient while Toyota always worked on their quality,thats the difference between cheap cars like tesla and properly built cars like toyota.

I concur with your assessments fully ! My own Toyota fleet has been as far back as a '90 Camry All-Trac automatic (over 200,000 mi.) a '91 Camry 5 speed with sunroof (a real rarity) with over 200,000 mi. A '13 Highlander bought new (mechanical perfection 3.5 liter !) with 35,000 mi., a '14 Corolla 4 speed auto (old skool auto, not cvt) with 200,000 mi also bought new, a '15 Corolla with same auto trans with 50,000 miles, a rebuilder '04 Sequoia with 150,000 miles needing fender and hood in a small accident, and lastly an '03 Tundra with 275,000 miles. The amount of repairs made on these vehicles amounts in total dollars, less than 2 car payments or lease payments on a modern day buy. THE most reliable cars, trucks, SUVs on the market over the last 40 years !!! I am a dedicated fan of the marque

2004 Dodge Ram hemi 5.7 300,000 +miles , just changed front axles. Almost all original- even factory spark plugs (16) 2004 Ford 4.2 F150 300,000 miles. Chevy cavalier, 1997 had 500,000 miles. 1988 Honda accord 1 million miles- 3 clutches and tune ups, brakes, tires, ball joints, axles 3 times, 4 fuel pumps, 3 water pumps, 3 alternators 2 windshields.

I'm a fellow fan of the club also. We've owned Toyota's and Honda's since the 80's. We have over a million miles combined amongst the 6 vehicles we currently own,2 Toyota's and 4 Honda's. You can't beat either marque for reliability.

I have only owned one Toyota and I drove it past 120K miles with minimum repairs and maintenance. There was just one problem with it once the warranty expired and that was an engine light that went on and no mechanic including several Toyota dealerships knew why. Regardless it would pass inspection by resetting that and other than the light always going back on, it was a great vehicle. 2002 Toyota Corolla CE.

Toyotas are the best vehicles I have ever owned. That is all I buy. Something to think about. I traveled 20 years for USDA. They paid me mileage. I found out how dependable the R/4 was I drove it for years, and only had to do regular maintaince: oil, and filter plus timing belts, etc. I was able to save the money I would of spent on repairs to other brands. I invested the saved money to my retirement program. One note: I was so poor I had bought the Toyota from the wrecking yard and it worked out very well for me

Older ones are reliable. Not sure about the new turbo engines. I have an older Highlander, very minimal tech and the beloved V6. Zero issues, none, nada!

That's the Toyota way. First time buying a Toyota here in the UK in 2008 i was amazed! A 2002 Yaris 1.3L 4speed auto was so solid, quality was there with such ease of servicing i kept it for 14yrs. But the road tax was going up,£185 back in 2020 when i sold it, today as of May 2024 it's £255 a year! Ouch, to the buyer i sold it too.

@@ECPP Thing is it's the engine g/km (grams per kilometer) ie emissions. Our government wants to tax us on what comes out the exhaust. There's a thing called BAND A (Tier A) which is £0 (Zero) to tax per year & that is from 0 - 100g/km & goes up to BAND M the highest (£735) a year which is anything over 255k/km. The MK1 2002 1.3L auto Yaris is 157g/km (grams per kilometer) that's in BAND G while my new 2015 Yaris 1.3L auto CVT is 114g/km & is £35 a year to tax BAND C, last year it was only £30! Now, early versions of the MK3 yaris in 2011,2012 & 2013 are in BAND D (£160) BUT there's a tricky thing over here called "euro5" which my newer Yaris is,that's why it's cheaper on road tax BUT earlier MK3 Yaris's are NOT euro5. Worth googling (euro emissions) There are euro4,5,6, etc. It's a con basically. Thought i'd inform you what goes on over the pond.

Better designs (and improvement on those designs) that include better metal alloys, better piston/rod lengths, better compression ratios, better transmission gear ratios for the expected use of a vehicle, and testing it in adverse conditions with less than optimal maintenance (older motor oil, older & loose fan belts, heavy loads, etc). They have experimented with turbos in the past - remember the 1990s Supra? (and I think the top-end Celica of that era?).

You are bang on with Toyota...I am a huge fan of Toyota and "was" a Honda fan as well....until GEN5....after gen 4...they went cheap expecting the same quality and results as they previously had...but like you said...once you start messin' with a proven product you risk degrading and injuring the brand..too many issues with the newer engines and trannies.....at least with Toyota..they stayed true (for the most part) to consistency. A California friend sold his 1999 3rd Gen 4Runner in December 2021 for $7K. 438K miles on the odometer - original engine, transmission, transfer case, and rear differential - with faded silver paint and a chewed up rear seat thanks to his dogs. His experiences convinced me to buy a 5th Gen (which I sold to a couple desperate for an SUV) then a second one. My neighbor spent more money on one visit to her Fiat dealer than I have in almost three years of ownership.

Many people and YTbers usually criticized Toyota cars not equipped with some good materials, e.g. leather or equivalent, on the dashboard and central console, like the competitors do. Also, they have always commented the time performance from 0 to 100km/h not impressive like the other Japanese competitors. These comments are not the crucial concerns and issues that Toyota focuses on. People loved to buy and use Toyota cars have well noted and even agreed with the key elements that Toyota embraced and provided. Some well known YTbers who understood Toyota's focus have been driving with Toyota cars.

Toyota doesn't want their name associated with junk! They've done a very good job doing so. My 2005 Camry LE (218,000 mi.) was an engineering marvel...as trouble free as any car can be. My newer 2020 Camry LE appears to follow the same path!

I own a ford 150 and a hemi Ram truck. Both have over 300,000 miles and burn no oil, no leaks. Had a Chevy cavalier with 500,000 miles. And a honda accord with 1 million miles. Watched the odometer turn all the way around.

The Toyota way seems like the Mercedes Benz way before 1990. Cars were simple, reliable and lasted forever. Suppliers (for the most part) were owned by Daimler Benz AG so there was direct control. Then Juergen Schrempp happened and sold off most of the suppliers and that was the beginning of the end for Mercedes Benz reliability

My SUV has over 350k on clock. Love it BUT, why are they badging Suzuki this year as Toyota. I feel they’re going to lose or cry for decades if they continue in this vein. They’ve worked so hard let’s hope it isn’t for nothing with the current small engines, turbos and not Toyota DNA. I’ve seriously started looking to change after swearing I would never. We also just get diesel engines which for persons using transport and city driving is fatal for turbo diesels. Weird approach as of 2023/24

Last summer at the Rally Estonia in the finish area six gentlemen from Toyota (according to the "Toyota" clothing) walked towards me. As I stood at this spot with my camera (photographing rally cars passing a right hander), I asked the six men to stop and stand nicely for a couple of photos! Two of them didn't want to be in the photos! I didn't know exactly who they were, as I only know Akio Toyoda, the president of the board, who actually gave me a small gift in 2019. Later on I learned that one of the four guys was the present CEO Koji Sato. Then I understood that the above mentioned two guys were live guards. They looked a little bit surprised when I mentioned that some years I got a small gift from Mr Akio Toyoda (Akiosan). Unfortunately, later last year Akiosan walked by me at Rally Finland, and I should have called him for a short chat. He is one of the men who has time to chat when the subject is about rally driving!

I bought a 2016 Toyota Tacoma crew cab, used and loved it from day one. I do all my own oil changes and if anything goes wrong I have an excellent mechanic. Yes I also have an old Ford truck, and 3 Jeep Wranglers for fun but the Toyota is what I drive when I want a smooth ride with no issues.

Still not the biggest fan in the looks, but I'm looking for something reliable. My problem is the used ones are just as expensive as a new one. Since they maintain value better than most vehicles makes it difficult for someone looking for something inexpensive. Trust me they do I bought my 3 year old Yaris in South Africa for R80000 which was around $10000 back then in 2010 right now I was offered a R45000 14 years later but it around $2500 but the only reason it seems less the South African rand is now 18 Rands to the dollar,when in 2010 it was around 8 Rands to the USD

If you said the OLD Toyotas, that’s are so reliable no complaints no computers no nothing and it can last forever ♾️ The newer Toyotas one are money pits and junk and less reliable as they age and quality went down the toilet. Especially with turbos and 2.5s and 2.7s and three cylinder those are junk and less reliability as they age, not the OLDER one. Peace ✌️

Just because it burns oil doesn’t mean its not reliable, I have a 2007 Toyota Camry with 223,680 miles to be exact and I just add half quarter of oil every 5k miles, there’re some things you can live with them, but not with lemon cars like Chevy ford ram or any other American vehicle that brake before they reach 100k miles

Mazda has been increasing their reliability over the years. The only vehicles I would be more cautious about would be the CX-90 and brand new CX-70 since they have a new turbo inline six or PHEV that isn’t proven Mazda tech

Toyota quality and reliability are gone i think. I wasn't very happy with my recent Toyota. The hood was misaligned, the window seal coming out (so much for quality), and unfortunately it had a scratch on it i didn't notice until after i left the dealership.

Now that Tacomas and Tundras are built in Mexico perhaps their build quality will improve. Folks, this is BS unless you think Mexican build quality is superior to Japan or the US...OR Your just a paid mouthpiece for Toyota. I think it's the latter... And then the EV era arrived. The reason for Toyota resisting EV´s as much as they do, is that everything that is hyped arround the Toyota brand now is lost. No one will care for their reliable engines and transmissions in the future. They will be replaced with even more reliable electric motors,they last forever. As for the chassis Toyota has never been in a leading position, they rust much faster and severe than European cars, rust actually is a problem in most japanese cars and especially Mazda. The suspension in Toyota cars does not really excell as well. A BMW or like completely outperforms any Toyota in that matter. In just a decade or so, you will only se old people driving Toyotas, and very slow, as most do today. Driving a Toyota as you would a Beamer or a Merc would either scare you to death, or wreck the car. That said, I could still consider buying a Toyota. I actually owned a Toyota once, it worked fine, but was a terrible car. I cared so little about it, that I didn´t even care to wash it ever, but it got me arround when needed. My Beamers though were always clean and tidy, and I loved them with all of my heart. They drove so much better than my Toyota, that it was hard to believe. I never had problems with any of the brands, they were absolutely reliable both of them, but I drove my Beamers much much harder than my Toyota. I guess the Toyota would have been wrecked with that heavy foot. But for the time I can have 10 years warranty for free at Toyota, if I have the car serviced at the dealership. To a 65 year old that matters more than speed and elegancy, but I will have to very convincing to my wife, as she thinks Toyotas are just as ugly as I think. By God they need a designer.
