I have one of these my hdmi is fine and works like a charm. The audio in some games is a little loud but IDC, I love the design of this and it does the job!

Hey, it's been month I was considering buying it, thanks for the test Wicked Man 👍. It's almost perfect, would have been great if sound was ok, I would have bought to put aside my Pal Megadrive 😅😊.

The flickering of Hdmi in some games is from Running Games that where designed for NTSC on PAL region , or PAL on NTSC region ... the sound is bad since its Mono , you don't have Stereo sound (it just doubles the sound input )... or it does have but you have to flip a switch on it...

Ironically, i own 2 Atgames , the Sega Genesis Classic no 1 likes, and the 2018 Genesis Flashback with SD slot , weirdly enough, i like the Classic 1 with the bad sound better, it reads cards way better then the 2018 , ever drive carts don't work , heard Everdrive X3 possible might . Being random because we're on the topic of Sega Genesis 😅

I liked that Streets of Rage 2 Shredder's revenge game you played in this video where you were playing Streets of Rage with just Ninja Turtle characters and Ninja Turtle enemies were coming down the path I would love to get a copy of that for my Sega

Even though it's still nice to see a MD1 clone, the sound is sadly a big minus. It's like putting your ears through a meat grinder. Now as for fitment with the MS converter, it seems like the cartridge connector might be mounted too low. There's only one way to find out i guess, put an OG next to it and measure the height of both the connectors inside their respective cases. Now as for myself, would i buy it? Maybe! Since i already own a couple of original MD1 & 2's. And to be quite fair, somehow the real deal is still always best imho.

He reviewed so many of these Sega Clones , Genesis/MD , are such a Hit or Miss , probably better for people to watch these before buying and pick up the real thing 😅

Hmm, it’s possible that the video issue may be a problem with modern games like Xeno Crisis - all those cheap clones (and man, these guys really found a way to redefine “next level” cheap) make me appreciate my original Genesis consoles (I have both a Model 1 and 2 with a Sega CD 2) more and more. I have an HDRetroVision cable to get a high quality component signal out of them.

I don't get it why it is so hard to get the audio right in NES and Genesis clones. Old 1:1 hardware copy clones (like good old Dendy) did not have this problem but the moment these small one chip solution clones appeared and NES and Genesis audio got ruined. We have been complaining about them since day 1 but the Chinese have done nothing to fix it, just rehash the same imperfect chips from device to device. Surprisingy SNES is usually fine but then again it handles music differently and uses samples instead of synth.

@@MaaZeushe probably should start reviewing slightly more quality clones , like the "Retron 5 or 3, retro Trio , Retro Champ etc.

@@joezar33 I don't know about the Retron 3 and the Trio and Champ, but Retron 5 is an emulation machine and Hyperkins consoles that are not emulation based also have problems with audio. Emulation is fine, we've had perfect emulation of the older machines for years. But it also is a bad deal because you can just buy a mini-PC and install Batocera on it. And it also has problems with some multicarts and flashcarts are completely no go. Retron 5 only serves a purpose if you are hellbent on playing just the carts you own. Personally if I am after a clone system, I want it to be 100% hardware based, not software/emulation. Otherwise I would be just playing my Batocera/Retroarch build.

@@MaaZeus Here's the thing with a lot of these clones: the chipset itself is not the problem on the Genesis side. Unless it's AtGames, the problem stems from completely butchered analog circuitry that gets the mixing and filtering completely wrong. This is how you end up with clones like these where PSG is so loud, it completely overpowers the rest. Is no clone console manufacturer able to put together an amplifier for these things that actually produces a proper end result in 2024? Jeez. NES clones, however, are just pathetic, and they seem to be going backwards since the HDMI models started showing up. This is a case of a faulty reverse-engineering job on the audio hardware (predating NOACs, even!), and the end result is the two bits selecting the duty cycles for the square waves are backwards, meaning 25% and 50% duty cycles are swapped. If a game is to output a square wave at 25% duty cycle, it outputs at 50% instead due to this reversal. Even NOACs that DO have correct duty cycles botch the mixing and reverse the DMC bit order, resulting in garbled output with sampled sounds (a notable exception is Double Dribble, where the bit order is backwards in the ROM, and as such, sounds proper on these chipsets). Unlike on Genesis clones, where the sound can be fixed with component swaps (if you know how to handle 0603-sized surface-mount components), if a Famiclone has reversed duty cycles, chuck it in the bin because you ain't fixing that without a full chipset swap.

Strange about Xenocrisis but was the only one that was faulty. So this could be a worthy replacement. I don't know over there but here in USA a Genesis model 1 without box costs $70-$80. And I bought a Genesis model 3 brand new in box for $80. But you can get that system for a few bucks less. Good review and cool video Wicked!👉🏼🙂👈

Certainly the best MEGA Drive Genesis is the original 2017 version with SD input with Neto update with all Mega Drive Games Dubbed incomparable to this day the best 😮 with Sega CD input too 😍

Love your unboxing and reviews.. This is ok..But I have the Megadrive II model with every Sega, SNES, plus 900 other's... It works great..Emulatuon is perfect..And it keeps my original consoles mint..

Looks not bad, the shell itself would cost a decent amount by itself, I think Xenocrisis would work if you changed the region switch because it looks similar to what some pal games do if you run them at 60 hz so I think its detecting the region and trying to run in pal. Testing shadow/highlight should be the quickest way to see if its crap and the game street racer should be the easiest one to see the difference in the menu. Some websites say that shadow/highlight only works with av. Also one website says its possible to mod the board so it sounds good. 🙂

I've kinda been in the market for a new genesis system so I wanted to look into this... sounds like I'm better off trying to find a real system off ebay! especially when this doesn't even have the interface for the MEGA CD/SEGA CD. and sonic sounds like it's running off the sega smash pack and that sounded *horrible* yeah this is gonna be an easy pass for me.

This is not FPGA, this is not emulation.. technically it is a real genesis in a blob. Purists should love this. The issue of putting the red mega sound chip in a blob is still a problem for them. But I have one of these. The input lag is the same as a real genesis.. Now the problem of skipping the image must be something with the quality of the HDMI capacitors because it worked perfectly on my tube TV.

Does the CD port work? It didn't look like it went to anything when you opened it, but since the link on your other Genesis system from about 5 days ago now goes to this system, I thought I'd ask.

Probaly xenocrisis doesn’t work because has a different voltage/updated chipset that is not totally compatible

He reviewed 2 *Sega Genny/MD* that worked fantastic on point, 1 was a HD mini model 1 with a Cartridge reader and micro SD slot, and 1 was from *Japan* , a Handheld with cart reader controller and HDMI . people should watch these before buying any Ole cheap Bootleg Genny/MD.

A badly designed console can fry your cartridges, and this thing is built cheap so I'd be too worried it damages my games.

So slitghly better than the atgames machines but not by much. So unless you absolutely have to have build in games I suggest you stick with the Mega Retron HD as your budget Mega Drive systems.

Well. This looks like a pile. Shame. The price was right. Also, those wires appear to be ground leads that they just hot glued down. Which does make no sense and might be why there is noise in the display.
