The side panel is for the non-functional Mega CD attachment that you can buy. The little hole is for holding the cover in, not for any SD card slot. ;-)

Yes the Mega CD attachment was only available in Japan and sold out very quickly.

The problem with the Sega Genesis OutRunners is that it was split-screen even for single-player so everything looks shrunk down compared to the original OutRun. Another thing about OutRun on the Mega Drive/Genesis Mini 2 is that it's a version with an altered sprite for the car since it would've cost too much for Sega to license Ferrari for this mini-console. That's presumably also why the OutRun cover art has been obviously altered. OutRunners didn't have the licensing problem because the cars were already cosmetically altered just enough to avoid any trademark infringement even in the arcade version.

I really would have loved to have seen Out Run and Outrunners get the new Space Harrier "superscaler" treatment. Would have been incredible for those two.

​@@dsgitlin Yeah, much as I'm excited to play this mini, Fantasy Zone and Space Harrier have been totally done to death by this stage, Outrun and especially Outrunners, which is rarely seen as the only home port is the poor Megadrive version, are crying out for the upgraded port treatment. Hopefully since Sega can't be bothered hackers will pick up the slack here...

I never thought I would see an UK guy not knowing the pronounce of Thruxton, there is a place with that name, but anyways, I love this video, we can feel the excitement of a brand new gadget ready to be used, I started to cheer for some of the games included like Silpheed and Golden Axe II

Honestly I can't agree. It's the missing games and dodgy game selection overall that kills my interest in this. Especially since a lot of the games that one would actually WANT or would make this worth it aren't even included. Neither of the Lunar games, no Popful Mail, no Snatcher, and for me the BIGGEST disappointment no Keio Flying Squadron. A game that SHOULD have been on this, and would easily have been what Star Fox 2 or Earthbound was for the SNES Mini since the only way to ever get a legitimate copy of that now is to spend an incredibly unrealistic amount of money for a disc.

It's a shame they never give the option for the mega drive 1 first model that had high definition sound. It sounded better than the later model 1 and the mega drive 2.

Huh. The Japanese version included an ac adapter. Strange that they aren’t putting them in the UK edition. Edit: I believe the controller is wireless in the JP version as well. I haven’t received mine yet but I saw an unboxing earlier today and unless I was mistaken, those are the two differences. Definitely watch one of the JP openings.

So it is "good" even without original's power ON push button, no red ON led indication and known FPS lag ? I don't think so it is not an accurate mini console. If better quality I would have bought too cheap.

I thought in some games the colours are a bit off and a lot of the games look very blocky... Nothing like I remember

All the reviews I've seen so far are either Japanese or European. Not sure why Britain is getting theirs first. Hey, you didn't happen to check out the shooter Hellfire, did you? I'm really interested in the changes they made to that game. I'm hoping they turned it into a dual stick shooter like Vanguard or Smash TV.

I heard that the Genesis mini was being shipped to customers straight from Japan so I'd imagine its just that few of any have gotten to the US just yet. I'm guessing Europe was too far away/expensive to do that with so they got them all sent to local distribution centers before launch like you'd expect. Not sure why they didn't do that in the US.

Runs off USB-A. Interesting as I prefer te MD original sound as opposed to MD 2 but to each their own. Yeah it's a decent system for what it is and worth it imo was playing mine earlier today and love it, have my Jap version coming with the CD style kit and Cyberstick!
