Ramana Maharshi: Can the mind be got at by the mind on looking for it as an object? The source of the mental functions must be sought and gained. That is the Reality. One does not know the Self owing to the interference of thoughts. The Self is realized when thoughts subside.

Hi Richard, In this talk, I think the non separation of everyday life from the self is very important to consider.🙏

Even more important to realize. There is only one reality. 🙏

I had a spontaneous experience of the Self as a kid that lasted for some days. A natural state of mauna or verbal silence came over me and I felt deeply content. But having to go to school and take part in the daily life took me out of it. I realized I couldn't stay silent and attend school and lost my inner sense of just being with the Self. I tried for a couple of days to remain in it, but got pulled out of it by teachers and school mates. The whole thing began with me pondering deeply over the facts of thoughts. I couldn't understand where they come from. And what in me choses certain thoughts over others. What is there before any thought arise in consciousness?. I would ponder over this for several days until the natural state of mauna came over me and I lost all need for talk. But of course I didn't know what I was doing and being a kid having to attend school, I could not remain in it. I didn't understand then and for many years to come, the value of what I had stumbled into by just being a curious boy investigating my thought process.

You have had a deep glimpse. As others have had. The question is how to return and make it last. Listen to today's episode on Talk 378 part 2 for an approach. It is the approach my own teacher took to find Self-realization. Your early experience gives you a head-start, knowledge of the experience. . 🙏🙏🙏

@@RichardClarkeAdvaita Yes, it was a glimpse. And I am sure many others have similar glimpses. But most often we don't know what to do with these glimpses. It takes a certain kind of maturity to make them fruitful. Thanks for your work. Much Appreciated. :)

@@CT2507 This is one advantage of cultures like in India, where they know abut these kind of things. My own teacher had an experience like you talked about in his mid-teens, and somehow he knew to leave his family and find someone who could help. 🙏

@@RichardClarkeAdvaita Well, I did follow up and got into spiritual work already as a teen, which led to more extraordinary experiences through the practice of tai-chi and yoga as I got older. Even the state of samadhi fell upon me and lasted for about an hour. But being involved with life and family, I still don't feel mature enough to focus exclusively on the Self. Life keeps pulling me this way and that.

To achieve thoughtlessness is to be in the flow state, Flow state comes when we r doing something with utmost attentiveness. Doing household chorus like cleaning, washing is a good practice as we get involved into it n sometimes reach the flow state as well. Doing creative work also helps us go to the state. Getting involved in a book throughly is also a way Its hard to achieve this state. Recently got a glimpse of emptiness, I took a walk down the same street, but everything looked fresh, the trees, houses all seem new. I didnt want to talk to anybody, just felt like being in the moment. Alas it didnt last long.

What to do when there are no thoughts, just impulses of the mechanisms of the mind which were created in the childhood?

This is Jnana, Pure consciousness, your very being. See today's posting. It can be known, but not really named. Knowing this as yourself is the goal of spiritual practice. 🙏

Thanks Richard Why are you focused on Talks may I ask ? They're not considered to be a very reliable source for Ramana's teachings

It is a rich source, and it deals with the questions of ordinary folks. It is also, for me, a good source of ongoing study. Also, previously I have reviewed such books as "Who am I?", "Forty Verses on Reality," and "Atma Vidya." 🙏
