He stayed in the car the whole concert waiting for me to return. The bonds created between a dad & his children are incredible to an extent stronger after they're gone. My wife and I saw Paul together back in 2009 and sang along with all the na, na, na's. Singing that classic along with the Beatle that wrote it was pretty special. After my wife died a few years later I would put it on to cry in the shower to and by the end I would always feel better. It's magical for sure.

His ability to write catchy melodies was uncanny. A lot of artists blow their melody-invention load after a year or two. By the time he wrote the timeless melody of Hey Jude he'd already written Yesterday, Michelle, For No One, Your Mother Should Know, I'll Follow The Sun and countless other beautiful catchy melodies. A genius.

I love the line and believe the story and that john was honest in his appraisal of it. but a little part of me wishes that john thought the line sucked but told paul to leave it in to undermine his success. Paul McCartney is a beast when it comes to songwriting, musicianship, and vocals. - - His vocal versatility might be why his vocals are underrated. Many don't realize he's the same singer on most of his hits. Lennon on the other hand, has such a unique tone, that he's instantly recognizable.

The Beatles helped me get through high-school. I had the whole Beatles collection on CD. My friends were listening to New Kids on the Block, NSync, and Backstreet Boys while I was listening to Elvis and the Beatles. I truly believe the Beatles had more talent in their pinky fingers than any of those boy bands. One of of my fondest memories when my uncle sang "And I Love Her". We also sang together Elvis' "American Trilogy". A lot of great memories. Rock on... Professor of Rock...Rock on!!!!

Prof you did it again, this song is ingrained with great moments in my life, the coda emerges triumphant through the sad emotions of the verses, great to be reminded of the value of music that will never ever die! Cheers from London!

One of my fondest memories is how this song became our families way to bring in the new year. When it was close to midnight my uncle would start the song so we would be singing "Naaa Naa Naa NaNa Naa" just as the new year began. I really miss those days.

Aw, Professor...I miss my dear late dad, too. He was a lover of popular music and jazz. I love Sir Paul, too! He is absolutely amazing. Sent from God for us to dig forever. Thank you so much for the stories in this video. I did NOT know the Movement you need is on your shoulder story...and I'm the biggest Beatlemaniac. Kudos and condolences, dude.

I saw him at the Kingdom in Seattle about that time. The Kingdom was terrible for sound and was difficult to perform in. The only 2 bands that managed to pull it off was Wings and Led Zeppelin.

I always think of my uncle when this song plays. He didn't like rock music and being a WWII vet preferred songs from that era, or the easy listening tunes from the decades that followed. However, for some reason, he absolutely loved "Hey Jude." I don't even know if he liked any other Beatles song. I had the 45 and I remember that a lot of times way back in the day when my parents would play euchre with my aunt and uncle, at some point he would call me over and say "hey kid - go put on "Hey Jude" for me." I would and he would usually sing along, especially when the na-na's kicked in. It was the coolest thing.

Hey Professor, ya know this one was my favorite of yours since I found your channel a couple of months ago thanks to the KZbin algorithm suggesting it. I subscribed right away! I was chomping at the bit to tell the story about Paul wanting to change the lyric and John saying "you won't ya know.." but I'm glad you best me to it. I'd have had to paraphrase and you knew the exact wording. I had a similar experience with my mom. She was my best friend and passed away in May of 2017 at 87. She had me in 71 at the age of 41 and having been born in 1930 she was a Sinatra fan (a true Bobby Sixer") but was around for the British invasion and loved the Beatles. We'd often listen together (here in Miami) to "Beatle Brunch" which is a full late morning, couple of hours show devoted to all things Beatles. So when Paul came to Miami in about 1990 and for the first time performed John's songs (something he'd not done since the breakup of the band) as well as solo and Wings songs it was a very big deal! I'd seen many concerts by then, I was around 20 and my first show was actually Julian Lennon touring his album "Valotte" . It was at the Sunrise Musical theatre which was a relatively small venue. I was only 11 years old and I had a great time, he had that blessing/curse thing that children of celebrities have where they have an easier time breaking into the industry but then there's the comparison to the parents part that can really be a detriment. Especially when you're dad is John Lennon! Not everyone is as fortunate as say Jacob Dylan and Julian didn't enjoy success for very long as you know. So I was really fortunate to have seen Paul McCartney at that show twice, but the second one was special because I got to experience it with my best friend and favorite person ever to hang out with, my mom! She had never been to a concert and to see Paul, on Easter Sunday....I mean to have been able to experience that with her, man...there just aren't words. I remember exactly where I was when "Hey Jude" came on, crowched down in the aisle next to her seat on the first level of seats at what was then "Joe Robbie Stadium" and people were still using cigarette lighters during the songs , some brought they're babies 😂 I'm a sentimental. So looking back on that beautiful night, and looking back at the only other show I was able to take her to , Frank Sinatra! Looking back on those memories and being content to know I was able to do that for her, with her...man , she had a couple of dreams come true and knowing I helped make that happen, I wish I could have done more but it doesn't detract from those times being fantastic and beautiful, magical! We loved each other more than anything and I love Sinatra (something I couldn't say until I grew up, on Sunday mornings growing up I couldn't wait to get out of the house where The Syd Mark radio show played Sinatra all morning 😂) ! I love him still buy it's tough to hear Sinatra or The Beatles (some of the Beatles songs have a direct connection to my mom like "let it be") without missing her a little more. I'm long-winded and all over the place but I felt like talking about Paul and what he meant to me in my life. Thanks Professor for diving deep into the music that goes to makeup our respective life's soundtracks. It's a refreshing channel in this age of shorts. I'll finish by saying that you're Dad sounds cool, no wonder you're so passionate about music. My mom was too, I had music in my life since before I was born thanks to her...sounds like you're Dad was a good guy. PS. I see the "Captain Fantastic and Brown Dirt Cowboy" Elton John album. That's a favorite of mine and I know very little about most of the songs. I know the story behind "someone saved my life tonight" a bit, and I have the album with the photo book and lyrics so maybe you could talk about that one of these days? Anyway, it would appeal to most people I'd think. There's alot to talk about including those books right? Unique in many ways! Bitter fingers, tell me when the whistle blows, .... great songs. ✌️🎸🎼🎶❤️🙏 I mention that because it's fittin

I was eight-years old when my parents woke me up after I had gone to sleep one night. The Beatles were performing on "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour," and I was allowed to watch after my bedtime. The TV show screened the film that is included in this video of the Beatles singing "Hey Jude" to a live audience. It was the first time I heard the song, and I believe that broadcast was the song's official introduction to the U.S. Of course, after the song was over, my parents told me to go back to bed.

Proudest moment of my musical career was when I sang backing vocals on this song when Paul played Knebworth.. me, my mate Dave, and 120,000 other people in the audience! If you listen to the album, me and Dave were the loudest...... It was emotional because it was during the tour where he played Beatle songs for the first time since the split, including a few of Johns' songs as a tribute to his friend. The day included Page and Plant onstage together for the first time since John Bonham died, Elton Johns' first sober UK gig, Clapton, Floyd, etc etc... but singing along with Paul is the bit I really remember.

This is probably the most beautiful song by the Beatles. I was blessed with the opportunity to see Paul McCartney about 9 years ago and it was amazing, he completely dominated the audience, I remember a bit when he started talking in spanish and the people became really noisey... he just said Shh!!! and we were all shut. He blasted us with 41 songs one after another, and one of the most incredible things for me about that night is the fact that he didn't even have a glass of water during the performance. What a memorable show. People cried during the performance of Hey Jude, there's something earnest and relatable about that song that is hard to describe.

Really enjoy your channel. I love classic rock from the late 60’s, early 70’s. That was such an amazing time. I swear I went to concerts weekly from the time I was 14 until 21, and they were the legends from that era. I also love how music was such a powerful connection between you and your dad. Both of my kids would say the same about me because I always had music on, and still do. My son and I always talked about music, and he got me listening to bands I wouldn’t have otherwise listened to (ie Linkin Park, Tool, etc..). He also taught me small bits of certain songs on the guitar. But he swore he hated the Beatles and would change the Beatles channel when it was on in my car. He died 4 years ago and god how I miss him. Like you I often remember songs and our discussions around them and for a second I’m back in that moment.
