Well done, Dan! That takes me back to my running days; hitting empty, pushing through, hitting even worse empty. My knees don't like me running now so I've switched to cycling long distances. Quite enjoyable too, but when seeing videos like this, I miss being able to run, especially the running along wooded trails.

Marvelous effort Dan. And you have an impressive and ambitious programme of events lined up for yourself. I'm tempted to do the Clarendon Marathon myself, but it's just four weeks after after the ABP Southampton Marathon, which I'm already entered for. Given my age (69) and the fact that I have not much experience of trail events I think it might be pushing my luck. Whatever, looking forward to further training insights in your future podcasts. In the meantime: the best of everything.

Hey Dan, well done.. am about to do my first 50km trail here in Norway in a few weeks.. big fan of your other channel so pleased to join here too! All the best and man I felt your frustration with the “forgetting Garmin” situation!! Glad it worked out for you anyway! A good friend recently told me he ditched all watches and tracking stuff so he could just ‘feel’ the running but I’m still tech’d up to the max!!! :)

A late comment: Well done, Dan. I showed up for the Brighton Marathon and forgot my gel waistband. Threw me right off. But not having your Garmin is worse. You lasted well past the Marathon mark. I made sure to run with the 4 hour pacers. I was 64 then.

I only managed to get in on the 10K at the serpent trail this year as i totally forgot to register. I had a Garmin issue to, i run with music and my 245 dropped all of its tunes that morning and wouldn't update so had to run with no pace music. Such a fast day with the cool conditions but I was dead pleased with finishing 26th out of the 130 in the 10k group. It felt like i sprinted the whole way..... I am aiming my training for the 50k next year so see you there!!!

Kudos man! I personally know forgetting crucial gear for races so I do have pre-race checklists that I uncheck after each race and only leave the house after I checked every item (and yes, it has seemingly nonsensical stuff like shoes and underwear on it). Normally there are two lists. One pre-race day list (charge the watch, prepare gels, wash cloths, eat XYZ) and the race day list.

Oh man, RunManDan, I truly understand your frustration regarding forgotten Garmin 😢 ... but still need to question you as I promised: - When you started with training, what was the pace in your head that you want to achieve on 50K? - Did this pace change (in your head) in the middle of training? - And, this one is now hard as you couldn't pace yourself on marathon, but anyway - were you satisfied with pace that you achieve at the end? Thanks and good luck on further trainings 🍺🌍🏃♂️ P.S. Once I wanted to comment "did I hear Garmin beeping in background" 😂 ... for few months I have Forerunner 945, and I'm in love... except when it's beeping on me!!!
