The brass strip on the flywheel probably got out of place

@@samsclocks2084 that and I realized the flywheel itself was slightly too big. So it was smacking against the gear below it. so maybe the flywheel was replaced at some point with a Seth Thomas flywheel but was slightly too big for it bc as it’s spinning sometimes it won’t even spin it’ll just go then stop and then the rod would slip and make it go 1000 MPH. So I bent the flywheel on both sides making it smaller and now it doesn’t hit the gear anymore, now it spins with no issues now.

I’ve heard of that being used as a solution to correct a chime that goes too fast but never have seen someone do it. I’m glad I’ve come across someone now and I may do it in the future the problem ever comes to my bench.
