The 7 dialects (ahruf): 1. Difference in writing (lafz) with the same meaning (ma'na) 2. Difference in writing (lafz) and meaning (ma'na) 3. Variations caused by difference in omission and additions of words 4. Variations caused by difference in placement of words 5. Variations caused by difference in the position of diacritical marks 6. Variations of pronunciation or accent 7. Variations in stopping (waqf) of recitation

@@mohammadrizwaan1890 The diacritical marks did not exist at that time, but the people at that time knew how to pronouns the words without the diacritical marks [diacritical marks were added later for the non-Arab reader/speaker]. They [the Shahaba etc.] knew that "Malik" was with a fatha (in one qira'ah) and "Malik" was with a kasrah (in another qira'ah) and those differences in qira'at when it comes to the fatha/kasrah/dhammah denotes that one of the ahruf must have been differences in diacritical marks. As far as I understand akhi and Allahu alam. I could be wrong.

Very interesting discussion. The subjects of the Ahruf/qiraat have been widely discussed since the earliest days of Islam. It is true that most common Muslims are not educated regarding these topics. All the discussions of Muslim Scholars on this subject have all arrived at the same conclusion. That the Quran we have today is indeed the exact preserved speech of God. They have different opinions regarding the nature or definition of what exactly constitutes the term Ahruf however their conclusions are all the same. The Quran was preserved as is verifiable through the written texts that have been carbon dated to the times that Islam was revealed and also through the Oral preservation in an unbroken chain from millions of Hufaz(those that know the text by heart). It is true that many Muslims need to educate themselves more regarding these and many other Islamic topics.

With regard to the difference of opinion among the scholars as to whether the Basmalah is counted as a verse of the Qur’aan or not, this does not come under this heading, because the scholars of Qur’aan recitation did not differ with regard to reciting it at the beginning of the soorahs. And the Sahaabah (may Allah be pleased with them) were unanimously agreed that it must be written at the beginning of all soorahs apart from Soorat at-Tawbah, and that is in the Mushaf that was written by ‘Uthmaan ibn ‘Affaan (may Allah be pleased with him) and sent to all regions.

Perhaps it is my lack of understanding of Arabic but the third point, the addition and subtraction of words in an ayah. Until I get an answer, I will assume for now that it does not change the consonantal skeleton as I do not think this is something 1200 years of scholarship would have overlooked, especially for Ibn Kathir’s reading which is mutawaatir, furthermore I’m no expect in Arabic.

@@SheikhAlladeen I feel the smell of those who debate for debate nothing more, but I choose to think that you are not one of them. As you mentioned intelligence, I guess that the very first step of intelligence is to master your topic, and I don't see that in your comment. You can see my comment for Muslims also if you like. Do you know that becoming a Qari'a you need to start from somewhere with one reading, then if you want to achieve a higher scholarship you learn more readings? Do you that for you to learn Tafsir(the explanation of the Quran) you start to learn with one but along the way wherever there is a different pronunciation(AKA different word for those who can't read Arabic without punctuation) or even with +/- a word, you have to stop and mention that particular way of reading? Those different readings always add more meaning, generalization, or restriction. Also, you can read Quran in your prayer in any way you like, and nobody will question you as those are all valid. I am sure you are not someone who is trying to debate for debate, but someone who genuinely asks questions, so my little advice to you is to stay humble and not comment on something you don't understand well. A simple example, I am new to the English language and culture so you will not see me trying to criticize the language, its culture, or its people as I am not qualified to do that. If your claim or any claim of the "ex-muslims" or "youtube - experts" were true, then the Arabs of that time would make it as they hated Islam more than anybody else. The other day I saw on youtube a lady claiming that a guy in the speaker's corner wrote wrongly some Quranic verses, I verified and I felt sorry for her. The guy did not make any mistake, he just wrote without punctuation to see her reaction as she claimed to "expose " him. And pls don't humiliate yourself with those ridicule comments. I am done with this topic. I have very limited time for social media( purpose of being here? practice English listening, hhhhhh). P.S: For Hafs way of reading in Egypt or anywhere else is very simple to understand bc it's the most popular one amongst Muslims. Only a few places you will see ppl reading in another way. From China, India to Africa(for those who don't know it's a continent, not a country), all the way to Europe and North America, it's the most popular. And I personally lived in many of those countries. Again, it's not the only correct way to read, every of the 7-8 most known readings are memorized by the people and are common in Islamic scholarship. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to show off my beginner-level English skills.
