@@RobbieKnox Your wisdom and calmness around life is really valuable to someone with that kind of mid-20's "what the hell am I doing with my life" anxiety like me, and I'm sure it helps many others too. You're great on the podcast but your main channel videos are also amazing, glad you have no intention of stopping. Would love a supermarket xmas haul vid btw 😃

I've just finished university & had 8 different interviews for various companies and I haven't been offered any positions. It's been a nightmare. I can say for certain it's taken a tole on my confidence & self perceived value I believe I can offer to people. However, after seeing this video it's given the reassurance I need. I have that little bit more belief I need to crack on. Thank you Robbie.

Important caveat to being good at your job is that you can also be too good at your job. I've found that people who are too good are treated much worse than people who are terrible at their jobs.

I've been having an absolutely crap time in work lately. I keep saying to myself that I just need to make it through to the new year and I will hopefully be out of there. You seem to always make the right video at the right time for where my head is at, so cheers for that Robbie.

Hi Robbie - thanks for that useful advice!!! My only other thought is never stop learning, you never know in the future when something you learnt will be useful. I worked in a kitchen in a Cat A prison back when I was a student, and from that experience I learnt I never ever ever want to end up in a Cat A prison.

Great advice, I completely agree with these! Some other ones I found helpful from my own experiences: - 'Don't be afraid to ask questions' Even if you feel like you're being annoying or having to ask the same thing a few times to let it sink in, I've always found it works in your favour, depending on what you're asking: it shows you're interested in learning how to do your job right, shows you're interested in the people you work with, it shows you're interested in progressing in other areas of the company etc. It can also help if things go wrong as you're less likely to be blamed for things as staff will back you up 'such and such knows how to do that so it won't have been them' etc. Especially if you're new to the job as well. Newbies I've found get blamed first haha. - 'Take responsibility for/own up to any mistakes' Again, it can feel stressful when they happen but being open and honest with staff usually ends up with a positive outcome as they appreciate honesty and can show you how to rectify the mistake. Even ask if there's anything you can do to help fix the mistake or be shown what to do to make sure it doesn't get repeated and so on. - 'Prove you can do your job first and save the chit chatting until you're more settled in' Bit of an unusual one, I don't mean be antisocial or anything, always be friendly and introduce yourself and chat where appropriate. In my experiences moreso when I was younger I was so excited to chat to everyone and meet people I worked with I sort of half arsed some jobs which got noticed by managers and supervisors. Now that I'm older I've found if I come in and do my job and do it right, there's more respect there, your managers and supervisors don't feel like they have to keep an eye on you because they trust you to do your job. Once you've got that down and been there a while, you'll have proven your capabilities so you can get more sociable because they'll know you can chat and get the job done at the same time. - 'Always make an effort with new people' We've all been new at some point so always make people feel welcome. Check on them and ask if they're managing ok, even something as simple as include them in conversations in the staff room, that sort of thing. It can be really nerve-wracking to some people starting somewhere new and being friendly or looking out for them really makes a huge difference to them. I've seen this from friends I've made over the years, some can be naturally shy or anxious or may need someone to initiate conversation to get them out of their shell and make them feel comfortable as they settle into the role. I remember one temp job I had where I was new and people made no effort with me or made minimal effort back when I spoke to them and it can feel really lonely and isolating but majority of jobs I've had luckily wasn't the case and have felt welcome and part of the family from day one.

I’m self employed and have been for a couple of years now, and since working for myself I’ve realised how lazy other people are, no one wants to work, but then they’re the ones who complain about not having a job. That’s because they’ve not ever experienced being in a constructive workplace, people just need to realise when you’re in a job you have to do what your role asks. Too many people want everything for nothing. Think HMRC need to make this a mandatory video for employees 😂

What about if you have a job and hate it and don’t see that it is something you want to do in the future. you’re told you should work hard and offer yourself to help others but if it’s something you don’t want a future in what is the benefit?

I'd say apply to a different company / different job entirely! A lot of people will tell you that you just need to push through it but often times those people are of a different generation, where they only ever had 2-3 jobs their entire life. Nowadays, it's normal to change jobs frequently, so I'd say just apply elsewhere until you get something new.

@@Channelnem Aaah fair enough. You had me trawling through that Discogs page, marvelling at all the spin-offs I was unaware of - or that it was still going with the main series for that matter - not that I need much of an excuse to waste time drooling over records on there!
