Welcome to the Seven Tubs Nature Area, over 500 acres of accessible public lands located just outside of Wilkes - Barre Pennsylvania. Over thousands of years and largely due to the last glaciers that covered the area, Wheelbarrow Run has carved out a mini canyon down a hillside that features crystal clear rushing water. As the stream meanders towards Laurel Run it alternates between small waterfalls, fast flowing chutes, and large circular depressions that look like nature made swimming pools. These are the "tubs" the area is named for. A small sign and access road off of route 115 lead to a large parking area where a footpath begins. DISCLAIMER - This area is super popular for locals to use as a swimming hole and the internet is full of videos of people doing just that. If you are interested in exploring this area for its natural beauty, tranquility, and admiring the amazing geology arrive early, during the week, or in the cooler months of the year. As amazing as the Seven Tubs are, the larger Laurel Run is also quite scenic and photogenic. I was amazed by section after section of beautiful mountain stream ambience. A 2 mile loop trail leads from the tubs to the top of a hillside, then descends to follow Laurel Run to its intersection with Wheelbarrow Run making a perfect manageable hike with LOTS to see. As always, this film represents my own unique take on this area and I how i experienced it, with a focus on the natural beauty of the location. While others may see the Tubs as a sort of water park for swimming, gathering, and socializing, I see it as an amazingly scenic and peaceful location with excellent photographic opportunities, a small paradise of tranquility. I hope you enjoy the film and please respect these beautiful places.
