A short history of the U.S. sex offender registry and how NARSOL is working to oppose the unconstitutional laws related to it.
NARSOL is the nation’s oldest and largest civil rights organization exclusively dedicated to defending the constitutional liberties of registered citizens and their families.
NARSOL opposes dehumanizing registries and works to eliminate discrimination, banishment, and vigilantism against persons accused or convicted of sexual offenses through the use of impact litigation, public education, legislative advocacy, and media outreach in order to reintegrate and reconcile affected individuals and restore their constitutional rights.

Sex offenders registry needs to be fine tuned or fixed! Especially for those who commit a second offense or in some cases r child predators. These sex crime occur all over the world more frequently then most realize Here is my point tho… to do ur time and pay for ur crime only then to be put on a list for the public puts a target on the offender for 15 years while they r trying to recover from being incarcerated for long periods of time and from the offense as well. Most r isolated from there families and feel enough shame. To make short the registry should be for hard core threats to society and not first time offenders.

Having the registry return to its original intention is a step in the right direction. We are one of only a handful of nations that have a public registry. Eliminating that would make it easier for an individual to reenter society after they have served their sentence. Thank you for your support.

Prison isn’t always the answer for many as they can sometimes come out worse than what they were. We need to advocate for treatment on the inside and protections so they can prove themselves a better person over time being served.

registers are based around assumption same with the laws in most state people think you will reoffend that's way it is there but it needs changed for the better just because you think something may happen if people are deemed low risk and served there time release them without register further more judge don't considerer effects of registry on the person I also think there should be new act were just like juvenile offenders can get rehabilitee for most crimes not murder though adults should get rehabilitation specifically if it is first offense it would make America much better also when people are punished harshly like registry they tend to commit more because there like well I'm already isolated most likely wont get off registry they think well then why cant it happen again Wich is other effect this goes for most crimes at least we need to stand up against law we think is unethical and be heard I thought America was suppose to be great we need to fix it now

I learned by WAR that the youngest child on the registry list was 5 years old. That list is non sense. Putting children on the list is showing that the list was not made to protect children!
@NARSOL
@NARSOL Жыл бұрын
The original intent was to keep certain types of offenders away from children. But you are correct that its purpose no longer seems to be about protecting children. If it did, then these crimes against children would go down. But they don't because the majority of crimes against children are committed by someone the children know.

Among other things, if there is to be a registry, we would like it to not be a public one. Second, if the registry remains, we think there needs to be a limit to the types of crimes that will cause someone to be on a registry.

@@AnchoredSoulSband yes sir it is. Because the sex offender registry posts addresses of sex offenders online which is a violation of human rights because it’s invasion of privacy. Family member with no sex crimes get harassed if one of the family members is a sex offender. Plus if a sex offender leaves his place of residence then another person with no sex offence moves into the neighbourhood then some vigilante or crazy mob will burn that place with the innocent person with no sex offence dying.

I think everyone should have the experience to know what life is like on the registry. May be if they experienced it themselves they would change IT and some of the restrictions. My point being is, you don’t have to be a registrant to offend. Most commit crimes who aren’t even on the registry and in tune make it worse for the ones who are already due to more laws passed because they think every registrant is the same case. They really paint a broad brush and it shouldn’t be.

The Wisconsin DOC is starting to remove the lifetime ankle monitors after almost 5 years. The Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled that the lifetime GPS monitoring was unconstitutional. What is violating 600+ Wisconsinites civil rights worth? The civil liability is staggering. Class action lawsuit??
@NARSOL
@NARSOL Жыл бұрын
If the monitors are being removed, what would a class action lawsuit in lawyer fees? And if the lawsuit loses, does that give the DOC an opportunity to claim the lifetime GPS monitoring is not unconstitutional? We completely agree with you that lifetime monitoring or any monitoring after one's sentence is completed is wrong, but we have limited resources to litigate on behalf of registrants.
@kenmaples6856

@@NARSOL before the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruling most attorneys wouldn't have touched a civil lawsuit regarding the monitor. I even reached out to Ben Crump's office as he represents people who have had their civil rights violated... I advised him, out of over 600 people iam sure it affected many people of color. I was shocked that they passed as the civil liability for the state of Wisconsin is high. NARSOL has done an outstanding job up to this point and iam not expecting any representation, but now I have a feeling Attorneys will be standing in line to get in on the pay day. 30% can be very lucrative. The DOC only follows the rules set by law makers and the courts. If not it would be considered retaliation. They can't act on their own. It is a shame that we can only go after those responsible civilly. This statute was obscene to the point of being criminal. Violating a person's civil rights is a crime. Unfortunately the state will be held accountable and the settlement will not come out of Brad Schimmel's pocket. If and when I receive a settlement I plan on making a financial donation to NARSOL. At the moment I have limited funds.

@@NARSOL this civil lawsuit should be a no brainer off the Supreme Court ruling. Iam not in it for the money. People on the registry understand accountability with bad decision. Governments should be no different. Law enforcement officers and state officials have qualified immunity. I can understand law enforcement as they are forced to make split second decisions. Law makers on the other hand can take their time in making a bad decision. If legislators make a mistake the worst they suffer is losing the next election...as with Brad Schimmel and Scott Walker. Walker gave Schimmel a cush job in Waukesha before he left office. Depending on the settlement iam planning on splitting the money between my 4 kids.... one of which was the daughter I offended. With the remaining amount I'd like to open a no kill animal shelter. Money means little to me as I have had no problem living on a small paycheck. I don't understand why you would be opposed to a class action lawsuit? It's all about accountability.

@@NARSOL does NARSOL understand the legal precedent involved in winning a financial settlement from a sex offender law? It would send a ripple effect within state legislators all over the country. It would give them pause before passing another sex offender law. It would create accountability in legislation. Legislators have qualified immunity but if a state starts paying out large settlements those legislators will be looking for another job.

Most countries have a registry for individuals who have committed certain types of offenses. However, those registries are for law enforcement and others who might need to know, such as an employer who is hiring someone who will work with children. In a mobile society as ours, many of the requirements of our registry laws are not rational. We advocate for rational sex offender laws, and what we have now are anything but.
@Nightmarefuel66
@Nightmarefuel66 Жыл бұрын
All it does is shame and punish continuously. Even if they say it's not punitive, it still has punitive factors and is therefore punitive and ILLEGAL!!! The registry itself is not punitive. The PUBLIC aspect is. Public registration allows the public to harass, intimidate, extort, rob, assault, MURDER registrants. In MY opinion, the fact that so many documented cases of assaults and/or murder of registrants is cause enough for ABOLISHMENT. Not of the registry, but of the public aspect. I believe it kills off any hope of redemption...
