@@NARSOL there s no registry. Offenders names are hidden. Sometimes , during the sentencing you have initials of the person and not their names. Its made to avoid vendetta.Offenders have mandatory therapy, if the crime involved kids you can't work with them, you can't live near a school. Some activities in clubs are prohibited if there are minors. But they re not shamed in public like in Texas for example. My husband had child pornography and was taking pictures of kids. He s not allowed to see them. I absolutely understand. I know he is sick and needs help. I dont want him to kill himself. He hasnt been sentenced yet, im ultra scared if he s going back to jail. The level of violence is insane. Some guards are like passive killers too. But he can works and rents an apartment in a normal way. Guns are prohibited too in France if you have been convicted of something. In prison you can also work and study. I can only talk about the prison of Grasse in France. Some prisons are a total disgrace.

Thank you for your story and your bravery to live the best life possible within the confines of the registry and it's restrictions. I have very little hope of ever connecting meaningfully and living peacefully ever again. The weight of being on the registry is too much for me sometimes and God is the only reason I keep breathing some days; I know that sounds pitiful and desperate, and maybe it is. Suffer regularly from yelling and threats coming from psycho registration officer who is also a sheriff. Contacted an attorney, documented many instances over the years, and the attorney only told the officer, and I was retaliated against. Now I have had to quit my job, and I'm trying to sell my home, and move out of the United States. This is a bad country.

@@NARSOL yeah, people are sorry. In the meantime, my constitutional rights are being stomped on routinely. If he wasn't a sheriff, then he would just be another psycho slob. But because I can be arrested for numerous trivial things on the registry (you probably know them as well as I, so I won't list them), charged with a felony, incarcerated for a year, followed by six months of sex classes and probation, he becomes a very dangerous psycho slob. How can this continue in the United States of America? But it does continue, it has continued for multiple years. Full of judgment and condemnation, full of unjust persecution, this is no longer a good country to be in.

@@NARSOL I'll vent some more....and if someone thinks this sheriff's psycho behavior is justified, my charges dates back to 1982. (He abuses all 250 underneath his authority, anyway.) Then you might think in 82, what I did was so horrible. Well no, I was not convicted until 1999. A twenty-six-year-old woman came in from another state and filed charges on me in 1996. It was all so bizarre, a charge coming out from nowhere. And, I have proof that I wasn't in that state in 1982, so it was impossible for me to have committed a crime then. None of that mattered. So now it is totally justified of me to say the court and justice systems in the United States are totally off the rails, and do not even reflect a smidgen of justice.

One's experience with probation or parole officers is completely dependent on the officer in charge. Some are supportive and want to see an individual be successful, but the goal of other probation officers is to make life difficult. It is unfortunate.

If you want to investigate moving to a different state while on probation or parole, you need to look into "interstate transfers." Consider changing how you view yourself. Man can temporarily judge but Christ is the final judge on each and every soul to have walked the face of this earth. I remember as a child reading the book "The scarlet letter" that book shaped my opinion now on how there is no redemption with the registry. Even after prison and punishment. If you cannot forgive, then how can Christ forgive you when you stand before him in judgement. If someone deserves 100 years, give them that. But not this registry.

The biggest problem is that people just don't understand that those who commit such offenses often have deep remorse for the act, not for getting caught. Here in Washington, they push "being normal" on said offenders, but when they get out, they are anything but. When someone has worked on themselves and want to be part of society and try to make amends, why does anyone think it's okay to stop that? How does that help the victims? I highly endorse the Bridges to Life program, for anyone who doesn't understand how keeping offenders down actually negatively impacts victims. There is a lot that most people just don't understand about things like this. And you won't until you or a loved one experiences it. Also, in today's world, since nobody has the neighborly thing, felons all do. They will watch your place for you. They will look out for neighbors one, because they don't want to have issues themselves, and 2, because they know it's the right thing. There's this false idea that it's not where you come from, but where you are going. That only applies to people who don't get caught. If you get caught for anything, it feels like you are forever branded as not part of society. And love? If you're an SO it's basically over. Leading research from Canada (where the most current research on SOs is occurring) shows the registry has detrimental effects not just for the individual on it, but also the victim and the community. Much the same way that prolonged supervision increases the risk of recidivism. The habitation restrictions, the relationship restrictions, it's all proving out to be detrimental for everyone, according to research. Plus the real big thing isn't that it's the people outside the home doing it, numbers show its people inside the home. And don't forget, there have been sentence reforms in many states that reclassified what used to be much less serious offenses into much more aggravated ones. So things that used to be kinda morally grey like statutory r are now full blown r even if the accused wasn't the aggressor. Plus there's that part too... probably 25% of those Convicted were wrongfully so or illegally so. I know one person for a fact who was illegally Convicted via entrapment (long story but there were family members who vouched for ages and a fake id) but since he took a deal he can't fight it normally. He lost his son over it. At 19, he will be on the registry for life and on probation for life. The laws are flawed on many levels and need to be fixed. If America would stop using research from 40 years ago, these things would change. Also, if they would stop sensationalizing every so it would help remove the stigma association with the past. Let people move on - not doing do hinders the healing of everyone.

I can totally relate, I have to deal with this for 25 years for a misdemeanor offense relating to an adult. It's a social stigma, and anyone I meet, i can't seem to keep as a friend. It is a social pressure, a constant fear that someone will eventually find out and will reject me based on my past. We are automatically grouped into a caste, the lowest rung on the social ladder. Unfortunately, we cannot give out participant's contact information. But for those who wish to worship, attending churches is problematic. Some states have harsher laws than others, especially if the church has a daycare. Some churches will create "contracts" that dictate what an offender can and cannot do or be. Individuals on the registry do attend churches, but it is challenging.

Went to prison 4 years later because of a collateral consequence I had to register. That was 2009. Since I have had bouts with alcohol and drugs and been incarcerated several more times upon my release the last time they put me on level 3 sexually dangerous predator because of an addiction . the laws do vary from country to country and the rules in the states are somewhat stricter than ours, but here once a year i have to sign with the cops or i'm inside and I'm not allowed abroad etc and its just as hard for me to get a job.

Wow. Americans on the registry are allowed to leave the country. However, they are turned around in many countries. Australia is one of those countries. The rules are based on whether an individual is still on community supervision (parole or probation).

Advocates are typically individuals impacted by having someone on the registry. This is especially true if the individual on the registry is/was young when they committed the offense and the response is completely irrational to the behavior.

Anti depressants like Escitalopram can do away with sexual urges. It's a non sexual drug. Just 60 mg per day is all it takes. It reduces testosterone.

Not allowing an individual to learn a trade so they can be a productive member of society is short-sighted. We are sorry that you are not being allowed to attend a tech school. Incest is a terrible crime, but as you suggested, you have no idea whether this individual committed such action. new sex laws would be better using both punishment and rehabilitation not just punishment as they are at present.(and the same punishment - as they are at present) there are some people i feel should not be on the list (and if your views are any different please say so.) I dont think children should be on the list (apart from as victims) - and adults who ONLY LOOK at child porn pictures, and people who are done for indecent exposure - these people should be put on rehabilitation without sex offences to follow - because they are not a danger to children - underage dating caused by a mistruth should be solved by putting both parties on rehabilitation. adults who have touched kids are the ones the sex offences were made for and so thats were the offences should be but without a life sentence to follow (the first time) but one to follow if there daft enough to do it again. Being a sex offender changes your life you lose a lot of friends and you lose a lot of peoples respect for the rest of your life, and a lot of people have said to me "what do you mean for the rest of your life it only lasts 10yrs" - But mud sticks your friends dont come back and youve lost the respect you once had ----no we dont have an equvalent of a NARSOL but above is my view.

Certain behaviors should not cause someone to be on the registry, and we think that rehabilitation and restorative justice can be helpful for many individuals. We can point to videos about police stings in which there is no victim and underaged consensual activity as two behaviors that should not be included in a registry. We also feel that a public registry is not effective for preventing crime and contributes to a moral panic that affects the entire society.

What jobs can someone in the sex offendor in the registry do? Having a felony makes it extremely difficult to get a job, on top of that being in the sex offenders registry makes it ever harder. So I'm just wondering what jobs can a sex offender in the registry do?

It depends on many situations. Some registrants create their own businesses, a registrant who has skills in a high-demand industry can often find a job, and some work in lower-paying jobs less likely to do background checks. It is difficult but not impossible.

@@woodpecant6992 those kind of documents are the same difficulty for everyone. Cities don't much care about who runs a business, as long as it's done correctly. The catch is if you need financial backing... dealing directly with individuals is different. Way different.

have you ever thought about making a documentary for tv which would if it was shown certainly show to a lot of the public that not a lot of the people on the list have a hell of a lot to do with rape or child abuse because the majority of the media think everybody on the list is a child abuser or rapist that will do it again. Those laws vary from country to country and state to state (in the United States). Although no registry would be preferable, few countries have public registries. Would you like the U.K. have those? Our point is that you have some idea of how you want them reformed.

We fired our contractor whose EIN did not come up as a match for his name. More looking, it came up that he is a sex offender who violated parole in 2019. I don't like being duped by anyone. We already gave him about 6,000 dollars to do some work. We thought he was an honest person. Not so much. His work skills did not measure up to the amount of money we were paying him either. Lesson learned, do the research first.

what is it exactly that you think needs reforming because as far as i can see there is a lot that can be replaced with a rehabilitation system it still needs to be there for cases of violent child abuse but - only in extreme cases for life if it is kept as it is, it is just a stupid system that cots money and doesn't work anyway because it was made for the safety of children and more than half the people on it have nothing to do with kids anyway.

These restrictions include where people can work and live as well as travel and other matters, which vary from state and nature of offense. Here's just one example. In some states, a registrant must also register in that state within three days. At that point the person is on the registry in a state where he or she did not commit a crime.

Our mission is to ensure that when an individual completes their time, they have the chance to rebuild their lives and learn from their mistakes. The Registry makes it harder for a person to reenter society and be a productive member and it does nothing to keep the community safer. Therefore, we never comment on another person's criminal past.

We make it a policy not to give individual's offenses for legal reasons. And yes--committing a crime of a sexual nature is anti-Christian, but so is not practicing forgiveness.

Yes, but just like say the mormons as an example were considered the sex offenders a long time ago and had to flee state to state untill they were able to settle in utah. Point is they gained the power to secure themselves because of so many in one place. West virginia would be a good place because of the ratio of sex offenders that live there. Also for those that can't move to a single state like west virginia or even vermont then they need to choose a county with-in their own state to do the same thing.

I am still trying to figure out how it’s right for a sex offender to be listed publicly for anyone to see and yet anyone else has to sign papers to have their background checked for a job or place to live. Your response suggests you did not watch the videos and are not aware of the other limitations and restraints placed on registrants. First, as an organization we provide support to people on the registry so they can make something of themselves. And many registrants do become successful, especially those that have skills in high-demand. Depending on the state of residence, registrants are forbidden to do certain jobs. They must register. If they travel to another state, they are required to notify the law authorities of the county where they will be. International travel is limited. Often these restrictions have nothing to do with the offense of an individual. Most states require registrants to list their address, and individuals have used that information to dox registrants and in some instances murder them. We advocate for rational sex offense laws, and these restrictions, which are punitive in nature, are not rational.
