@@wordman3624 Um no, it's a good movie, the issue is it was released literally around the same time as True Lies and The Lionking. Like look at the box office and movie attendance figures from around that time, it was actually off to a good start and was going to have a decent run, that literally got cut off the week True Lies came out, then Lion King. Just bad luck and bad timing.

Yes, the Tulku explained at the start of the film, after he was kidnapped and trained to become the Shadow: I also know that for as long as you can rememember, you struggled against your own black heart and always lost. You are tortured spirit. Your very face change as the beast claws it way out from with you. You're in great pain, aren't you? You know what evil lurks in the hearts of men, for you have seen that evil in your own heart. Every man pays for redemption. This is your's.

Very rarely do literary characters translate to the silver screen without compromise. The Shadow looks as though they peeled him right off the pulp! Like Christopher Reeve was to Superman, Baldwin was a prime catch for the character. The "false face" he conjures before donning his costume was such a clever way to make him resemble the pulp depictions and further disguise Cranston should he be compromised. It must take him much mental discipline to keep this effect up during his activities, a further testament to his "psychic endowment."

MY OWN THOUGHTS ON THE YEAR1994 MOVIE OF (The SHADOW) I enjoyed seeing it, and to add at the time I thought it was great. Now I strongly feel that the character hero known as (The Shadow) deserves the right to have a show series be created of it, and to add I think that it should be shown on the broadcast network of (AMAZON Prime).

I demand Hollywood reboot The Shadow for this generation, but then again Hollywood sucks. I hope Netflix can reboot The Shadow. As a kid when this came out I often wondered why isn't there a sequel to this or even the Rocketeer. Then growing up and realizing why it didn't get a sequel...just sucks.
@hbkx54 жыл бұрын
you can't reboot the shadow for "this generation", it won't work. this generation would expect way too much and it would more than likely change the character for the worse. they tried this in the comics in the mid 80's and it just did not work, all it did was piss off the older fans and for a brief period bring in newer fans who quickly went away. the movie never got a sequel because it did poor at the box office mostly due to the fact that it got lost in the shuffle between the lion king and forrest gump. had it not been for that and the ending being botched i think they would have made a sequel for sure.

Baldwin is great in 'The Shadow', but the film is a mess. Great production design and the cast list is impressive, Goldsmith's score is good, but it's very tricky trying to do a 1930's pulp story right in 1996. It's a very hard ask. It probably would have been better not to so deliberately play up the pulpy nature of the character and setting and style.

they need to go back to this type of filming style and directing just like batman the movie the grit and feel of wonder is no longer in movies it's so hollow and empty that's why the lion king is still in theaters in 2018 and it came out when I was a kid.

Shame what Alec Baldwin has become today. He was so underrated in the late 80s and 90s. I mean, not to some but to me he had a lot of potential. He just got terrible movie scripts. He was a runner-up for Batman for the 1989 film. I think that would have been neat, but Michael Keaton owned that role.
