What amazes me...northern union companies had their unions busted in the 80s. The jobs moved south to cheaper labor anyway, then they lowered the wages even more, than they moved the jobs to Mexico, and finally they moved them to China. We need to make goods sold in America be manufactured in America. And always remember....workers that are treated well, paid well and have good benefits never seek put a union. If a group of workers want to unionize, there is a reason and it shouldn't be fought.

I live in Alabama, I was talking to my mother the other day who lives in rural Alabama. She really doesn't want unions, the first thing she said was the cost of goods were gonna go up. This woman has worked in healthcare for years and I make more than her now as a cook. I wish I could convince the rural Republicans of working class solidarity rather than hating unions.

I think a lot of the conservative mindset, especially the working class, comes from rationalism rather than empiricism. Basically as long as the solution or rational makes sense it's good. Solutions that actually work but might be counterintuitive or hard to explain seem to be frowned upon.

I’m from the Detroit area whose husband was a UAW worker. The union didn’t hurt our family. It helped tremendously and the auto companies are still doing great. Yeah I guess if you want all the profit from corporations to go to the wealthy shareholders and the corporate elite, then unions are not for you. But if you are a worker who wants a living wage, good benefits, and worker protection, then you want a union. Believe me, it has been a total blessing to our family. It was stability for our income and health to our bones. Everyone in my family is a pro union person.

Sad Update as of 20 May 2024: The United Auto Workers (UAW) lost an election at two Mercedes Benz plants in Vance, Alabama. The May 2024 loss reflected that workers turned down the union by a significant margin (56% to 44%). Keep up the good reporting MPU! I would love to see follow up on these videos when they have important votes coming up. Letting us know the status of these important union votes!

I worked for Amazon in the past within the warehouse, a little over ten years ago. Management legit walked around telling all of us that if a union representative asked to speak with us, "you don't want to be unionized, you're not interested". I didn't obey, I simply asked to hear more when they came to me. Few weeks later, I was part of a lay-off.

In the 90s I worked with John Deere as a supplier, JD was UAW represented. For every 1 person working there was 1 reading a paper and smoking a cigarette. Without getting into details workers were paid very well for assembly line work but it was never good enough. Human nature is guardrail to guardrail workers abused their good fortune and drove themselves out of work. Unions are needed but they need to stress hard work, efficiency and innovation vs union providing "do whatever cover" for workers to deliver substandard results.

Places like Lansing are on a cheaper, more reliable power grid and this upcoming ballot has a lot of cities and townships in the US voting to approve or deny making power a public good.

The marketing campaign against forming a union was apparently all over the Mercedes plant. This is why propaganda is so effective. I would love to see coverage of the hospitality industry in New Orleans. Without tourism, New Orleans suffers. Those of us who were here during and post COVID lockdowns know this too well. Yet the people who work these jobs struggle to pay rent in substandard housing conditions and little to no recourse when faced with the all too common slumlord. Most of this demographic is paid just $2.13 per hour, and are forced to rely on tips to pay their bills which include the infamous Sewage and Water Board who commonly hit citizens with $400-$1000 monthly water bills! Entergy, the private electricity company & sole provider, does the same while trying to make users pay for their bad infrastructure that leaves the city dark for days or weeks after hurricane damage.

After 43 years 1980-2023 of Reaganomics Republican and moderate democrats failed tax break giveaways to the richest 1% and corporate America over 31 tillion dollars plus two corporate America taxpayer baiouts. Federal minimum wage over this same 43 years 1980-2023 time period only 7.25hr ! What do American Blue-collar middle class workers and the working class poor have to lose ? 🤔

I don't have conclusive proof but another thing ive noticed our fast food companies doing is instead of giving the food assistance they advertised, they give you free food more than they are supposed to. Is this to their benefit? Is it a tactic to try to pacify workers while simultaneously having leverage to fire workers if they decide to organize? I don't mind the occasional food but its less than ideal because the food is very unhealthy.

We need to FIGHT for work-optional lifestyle. Not everyone has the physical, emotional, or mental capacity to do work. We need universal basic income equal to the average annual salary. We can pay for this by taxing companies like ALABAMA POWER 90% of all revenues!

The problem is the same one facing all of us at election time: lies, lies and more lies, exaggerated claims, personal attacks, and personal threats by neighbors, fellow church members, bosses, etc. It's not just a matter of voting in a union: it's facing a life-changing, friend-losing social ostracism if you do. Tough choices, and they lost.

I was in a sheet metal's worker union. I had a very bad experience. The union kept asking for more and more even though we were well paid and had great benefits. They kept on until the company just packed up and moved to Mexico. Then I worked for the teamsters for a trucking company and it was the most toxic environment I've ever worked in. So unions don't fix everything.
