I am eighty years young and at the age of nineteen I started a rock band in Graaff-Reinet, South Afrca in 1962. We based our music on the Shadows and the Beatles, and we played for almost three years at local events, We called ourselves "The Plectrums" and boy, did we have fun! Btw: I am also enchanted by the rock instrumentals of the early 60s so much that I have learned to play 21 selected tracks from that time. Yes, "Apache" is a the top of the list, then "Husky Team" (by the Outlaws) and "Geronimo (also by the Shadows and written by Hank Marvin himself). For me the time has stopped in this sense. It's my experiment to suspend time to avoid the horror of passing and ageing.

Found this awesome video today on my 77th birthday! In 1960 i spoke to Hank Marvin on an old farm phone..2 longs and a short.. from a coal mining community outside the town of Witbank in South Africa. He was on tour with Cliff Richard and staying at the old Carlton Hotel in Johannesburg! I was so shocked when I heard his voice that I could hardly get a word out! He said he was totally shocked at the large crowds outside waiting to get a glimpse of them! I managed to wish them luck and say how sad I was to miss the concert! A few days later my uncle turned up at our house with a program from the show and all their autographs. He was a fireman at the time and had been on fire duty at the Colisseum where they appeared!
