In the 1950s, two sisters from Aberdeen began a musical career that spanned television and radio, first appearing on Top Town. These sisters were Doreen and Elizabeth Shand, dubbed The Shand Sisters. Doreen played the piano and Elizabeth led the singing. This drew the attention of Bob Monkhouse, who wanted them to appear on his show. They would later appear on the radio and on Grampian TV. Sadly I am yet to find any of their appearances on TV or radio, and it is likely that these recordings have been lost. This is a recording of them in rehearsal, with a photo taken of them on TV during a performance. Apologies for the choppy recording. It was first recorded on a sound reel, then converted to cassette tape, then to a CD, and finally digitally uploaded. There are some crackling sounds at 15:40 and 16:38, and the tape cuts between 23:37 and 23:40, and the final song’s ending cuts off, but other than that the recording is in incredibly well-preserved condition. Listen out for the dog barking at 4:20. Enjoy.
