What's funny about shapeshifters is that when they were first introduced, they were said to be the source of most of the werewolf legends. And then we got actual werewolves.

The characters I liked the most were the Archangels, but as far as monsters go, shapeshifters seemed so freakin cool.

If I remember right shifters were one of few monster types they actually tried and succeeded at humanizing. It pissed me off how much the brothers worked with Crowley when they'd refuse to deal with any other monster.

I think the thing that makes the shifters different and interesting, is how from a perspective of motivation, they're no different than humans. They really never do anything that a human wouldn't/couldn't do, they just use their abilities to get away with it. A thief, a serial killer, an abusive partner, someone lashing out at society with violence because of trauma and delusion, an abused and disowned black sheep of a privileged family turning their rage on the family. The rest tend to either be disposable henchmen or victims under the power of others (Eve via the Alpha, Michael, Crowley, Ketch, Magnus, etc.) or characters that are morally good or neutral and just living as people and not really using their powers for anything other than survival or personal gain that isn't malicious against anyone. They're a kill on sight monster for hunters, but presumably outside of identifying them as shifters, they almost never do anything that regular humans don't also do, and we have no way of knowing how many exist and never do anything with their power other than hide and live a normal life. Like you've pointed out in other videos though, they will all go to Purgatory no matter their moral alignment, where existence is nothing but eternal savage combat, and even though they have enhanced strength and agility compared to a human, they don't seem to be inherently predatory. So a character like Mia, who only ever used her powers to run away from a violent partner and try to be a grief counselor to help people, will inevitably end up in an afterlife that is an eternal (or more likely, very brief) version of what she has been trying to avoid.

Shapeshifters were the ones who won my heart in the series with their psychotic tendencies while remaining reflective of humanity's disgust of who they were born as.

6:10 i always looked at the shifters “rental flare” more so as a nictating membrane like a lot of reptiles have in fact I like to think of shapeshifters as the reptiles of supernatural nictating membranes and shed their skins the only difference is that they don’t eat raw meat like certain reptiles

5:56 remember, that baby shifted to look like the baby on the diaper box. The first shifter we saw in the series probably didn’t have something like that to look at when he was born.m so he ended up being born in his true form

Why. Vamps teeth don't fall out when done eating. WHY take a negative. I wonder what the DNA looks like tho. Could you clone a mouse from a shifter that was a mouse? Then if so could it shifter into a human? Lol limitless potential. ITS WHY I LOVE THEM......well the alpha. OH and immortality. Pre heaven reboot. Post heaven reboot I'm all Pina coladas in somewhere like Ibeza. How do you get there tho....

I got guess on the shifters that could change without having their body torn up, and I think it’s like the alpha werewolf, if a shifter bien closer to alphas generation than it’d probably be easier, another one is probably lots and lots of practice.

Whoes to say they don't decide "I want 3 extra inches ( of....hair lol) I'll take some claws, and a couple fangs. OR none at all. Imagine how that would help with "gender affirmation" ( im joking no1 believes this really).
