I had one of these back in the 80s, they were bloody awesome and that turntable was cutting edge cool at the time 👍🏽👍🏽

We had one of these - my Dad treated himself to it when it retired. It was brilliant and I'd wish I still had it!

Rare... That s a keeper! I have the Sharp RP-116(that has 2 tone arms) ( 3:50 Looks nice! ) ...but with the typical broken gear wheel... But there s some replacement gear wheels on ebay sometimes.

I had one of these as a kid and my only gripe was that LP speeds were mostly 33 1/3 and this was 33 without any way to adjust it. It wasn't particularly loud and the fidelity was poor - but that linear turntable was cool af being able to play both sides - even on repeat. I wish I kept it but I think the turntable broke and it wasn't worth having it repaired.

What...Ive never seen such a thing..Too cool. Sharp use to be the real deal

They really were with their mini component systems. The sound quality and features got much better in the early 2000's.

Linear track turntable is the correct way a record should be played back in any case because i believe it is the way the groove is originally cut into them. However they are more expensive because of the servo motors that need to pull the pickup arm across the record.

True its not low budget but I have the catalog this system was featured in, its about page 3 of a 10 page Sharp audio system range and although its not the budget model granted it is far from the top of the range systems Sharp released at the time...

I had a VZ-1550 when I was a teenager, and I connected a Philips CD-160 which I was very proud of. The 1550 doesn't have the spectrum analyser or the metal tape selector (only chrome), but everything else is as this model. The turntable started playing up after some years through lack of use because I moved over to proper separates. The arm would kind of "groan" as it made its way over to side 2, and eventually packed in altogether. I threw it away some years ago, and now I wish I hadn't. It was a great bit of kit.

I disagree I don't think these 80s midi stereos are naff, they were and still are acceptable for the mass consumer as by that time the majority of people wanted an all in one system because they were less expensive than seperates, minimalist and easy to set up. The tracking system on the record player is ideal especially if your the sort of person who doesn't have the time to listen to a whole lp in one sitting but I'm not so sure about having auto function but quite a few midi systems from the late 80s had auto function, the down side to that is having the radio blasting until you press the play button on the tape deck or the record player whereas at least if you have to manually select the function it will stay on the source you selected until you select another source. I'm not suggesting that these midi systems are as good as hi fi seperates but I think these all in one systems are a little underrated and these older systems do actually have a decent sounding cassette deck. From the front these midi sytems even look as if each section is seperate components and from the front it can look quite convincing. But in any case if it still works it's too good to end up in landfill and as it's 80s it's considered retro.

Rule of thumb,if it needs a graphic equalizer, the amp is crap.Gadgets to disguise poor quality.not a fan of powered arm traversejust listen to it,horrendous
