They're both canon, it was just a very busy night.

Worth noting the Doctor Who website clarifies that the Eighth Doctor met Mary in an alternate universe specifically in order to make the two conflicting versions of events fit together. So at some point, Eight traveled to an alternate universe, met Mary, went on adventures, and later returned to the main universe. A stupid explanation, but an explanation nonetheless. Honestly, it’s shocking they even acknowledged the Mary Shelley arc and put in the effort to iron everything out there
@thatDamnAusWhoFan Жыл бұрын
doesnt that imply that that was an alternate 8 in an alternate universe?
@FrostyMac Жыл бұрын
@@thatDamnAusWhoFan It can’t be because it’s obviously the same Eight who goes on to have all the other audio adventures, with Charley, Lucie, etc etc, and Night of the Doctor canonizes those
@chrispy3369 Жыл бұрын
I'd just chalk it up to the time war messing around with established time. 8 still had those adventures with Mary Shelly, but her timeline was rewritten, and he lost his memory of it.

@TrentonBlessWrestlemania489 Жыл бұрын
My headcanon is that while the Thirteenth Doctor showed up before the Eighth Doctor. After all, on TV they never did have those events leading to the writing of Shelly’s famed novel. As for Thirteen not mentioning she traveled with Shelly, she doesn’t say a lot of things.

Great video, I hope the next one is going to be about Tycho Brahe. If you know who he was, then I can say that he was a Danish (like me) astronomer, known for his comprehensive astronomical observations, generally considered to be the most accurate of his time. He appeared in The 13. doctor comic.

11:59 Just that one scene? Ryan is a perfect example of that elusive triumph of character creation the glorious twat. Someone who's twattery is off the scale but we somehow love anyway because we see through the wider context of his circumstances its not entirely his fault that he is how he is. Other examples of this include, but aren't limited to, Malcolm Tucker, several incarnations of the Doctor, Turlough and most senior detectives in cop dramas.

Just got into the Eighth Doctor audios last year. Needed something to hold me over until the show comes back this year. Overall I didn’t care for the Shelley stories or the Charlotte Pollard & Divergent Universe arcs, but I’m glad they exist. Currently listening to the Lucy Miller arc. Blood of the Daleks I really enjoyed.

nothing has De-canonized this. doctor who does not have canon so says the BBC. just officially licensed works. the 13th doctor era story doesn't discount this story for the sheer fact that The Time war hadn't happened or more to the point hadn't started to effect the doctor's history quite yet when the Shelley arc was going on, or not in a way that was perceivable by the incarnation of the timelord with possibility the worst track record with memory.
@thatDamnAusWhoFan Жыл бұрын
The bbc does not sanction canon... Here's how it fits into the canon. Honestly I don't really care about canon that much. I made a video on doctor who canon that illustrates that its all an inglorious mess that forces you to pick and choose what you want to accept, and that none of it is really worth getting upset about. It's just fun to be flippant in these videos sometimes.
@idgamingfederation202 Жыл бұрын
@@thatDamnAusWhoFan totally fair. I don't tend to choose, there is commissioned work and unauthorized fan fic. some of the BBV stuff was at one point officially sanctioned, and some of the people who got writing for BBV went on to be some of the biggest names in DW like Nick Briggs and Mark Gatiss. The Timeless Child could be seen as the same story as seen in Lungbarrow, The Timeless Child and The Other are one in the same, The Division use The Weeping Angels like The Celestial Intervention Agency uses The Oubliette of Eternity. History is written by the victors, and The Matrix of Gallifrey is not a reliable narrator, at least with The Matrix Archive (from The Matrix franchise) is only dealing with a single universe of history, The Matrix Gallifrey has to deal with all timelines, and all realities, as the doctor said once "MICKEY: But I've seen it in comics. People go hopping from one alternative world to another. It's easy. DOCTOR: Not in the real world. It used to be easy. When the Time Lords kept their eye on everything, you could hop between realities, home in time for tea. Then they died, and took it all with them. The walls of reality closed, the worlds were sealed. Everything became that bit less kind." I'm not one who bends the knee to those who say xyz isn't canon, when it comes to doctor who. it shows a lack of imagination or understanding of the franchise as a whole. I love a good debate now and then, but I always get tried of the 'this makes this past story none-canon because it contradicts the other story' the David Tennent stories Human Nature and the Family of Blood doesn't contradict the 7th Doctor story Human Nature, and the 9th Doctor story 'Dalek' doesn't negate or erase the 6th Doctor story Jubilee, I chock up stories like this to the Time War. I think we'll see this play out on who 8 and Cass will have adventures in EDAs Time War 5: Cass prior to the events of The Night of the Doctor. and either of them seeming to not recognize each other.

It's funny how the doctor who canon just uses itself as reference all the time. But i do actually believe that both 8 and 13th's encounters with Mary Shelly are canon. It's not like the doctor hasn't done something twice before (Shada happening to what, 3 different doctors?)

Villa Diodanti doesn't de-canonise this arc. Thirteen's TARDIS can't land in the Villa because the version of the Villa she goes to is in a time embolism caused by Ashad's crap time machine. As to why she doesn't remember travelling with Shelly... at least 3 millenia of traumatic time bending shit are between her and the original journey.
