@@user-bl6ne3hc6n I never make fun of people in their 50’s to 80’s. My Father was a Major General in Commando Forces in Lebanese Army. He knew Karate and all. One of his disciplines he taught us boys was to wake up early at the sound of the ice water. When we were kids my father by then in his 60’s and became a full time house dad, would prepare 3 x buckets of water with ice. He would put them in ice chest freezer for 15 minutes, enough to cool the water to the point it didn’t freeze. He’d take the water and attempt to wake us to do wood chopping. Remember it was just before sun would creep up, but you can see the light from it materialise in horizon. Anyway he’d call our names in the fashion of a drill Sargent, If we didn’t answer, another call and then a second later whoever didn’t jump up out of bed got the cold ice water. Remember when we did wood chopping we never brought up the topic of chainsaw. My Father told me that’s for girls. Now that I’m 40 years old I admire, respect & appreciate the military discipline. By me when we were cutting those trees he would strike those wedges or big nails with the sledgehammer and with one strike I literally heard and saw this massive tree just crack open. Their was me a schoolboy Rugby League player with biceps and forearms, massive shoulders and physical strength, guess what I had nothing on this man who was in his 60’s. I learnt humility, discipline & respect for authority.

@@user-bl6ne3hc6n I also have met and have had the privilege to have spoken to WWI, WWII & Vietnam hero’s. The sad stories of hell they endured made me be in awe of those people. I worked for a man who was of Scottish descent and was part of Royal Marine SAS contingent that fought in the Falklands. I tell you what all you had to know was the slightest tune in their voice and you knew they’re serious. I respect those type of men because they endured things we can never even become to imagine.

Thanks for that information. My brother pointed out plot similarities between First Blood and a very good movie starring Douglas, Lonely Are the Brave, with George Kennedy as a sadistic sheriff and Walter Matthau in the sympathetic colonel role. Read the plot summaries for the similarities. In other threads a comparison was made of Richard Crenna's delivery of his lines to William Shatner but now that I read this post I can easily see Kirk (Douglas that is, not Captain) performing the role as well. To Crenna's credit he made the role his own.

Because WW2 and Korean vets didn't look to highly on Vietnam vets after some of them formed and joined VVAW and participated in the Winter Soldier "Investigation." In other words, people like David Hoffman and John Kerry made Vietnam vets look VERY bad to fellow vets.

can you imagine a conversation between Richard Crenna's Col Trautman and William Shatner's Capt Kirk? The voice inflections alone would either set me into a giggling fit or drive me to murder someone.

I didn’t grow up with First Blood. I grew with the other ones but this is by far the best. I watched it when I was a man and it was blown away.
