Here is a little clip that talks about the concept of shield in the face, followed by an immediate strike. A concept born in medieval warfare and seen time and again in historical melee weapon conflict. This concept was also employed by the Zulu warriors that would use a cow hide shield and a short spear called an Iklwa. The principle of this tactic will work unarmed as well as with an array of street or melee weapons. Most certainly something the student of Combatives study should be aware of! Enjoy Lee M

Anyone who trained Riot control in the Royal Marines may remember the teachings of the small shield and baton.Circular hard shield was punching boss to do exactly what Lee is doing with the punch out followed by a circular downward baton strike from the shoulder using the same motion as a hammer fist to repeatedly used until threat was gone.As a impact tool the baton was shit!Lads would drill holes and pour lead into said hole to add weight.Just some trivia/History as I was being taught this early 90’s.Show’s what works transfers culture and time. Thanks for reading.Train smart, stay safe.🙏

You really are a modern day Ed Parker. You innovate & modernise traditional, but nearly forgotten fighting techniques, and rework them for todays streets. As a Kenpoist of 4o years I can give no higher praise. Awesome work sir

As one of my teachers once said, "make a sword of the body". The principles of sword work or any weapon must be able to overlap to unarmed combat otherwise you're learning two sets of movements. Awesome video as always Mr Morrison. Teaching the concept of the Shield also being a weapon is alien to some people just as the weapon can sometimes be the shield. Go in peace 🙏

Agreed. The Philippino Martial Arts start teaching with sticks. The same movements apply to sword, knife and unarmed combat.

Friday evening going for a meal with my wife and six year old son , we passed a scumbag who eyeballs me, turns around about 10 feet away and starts shouting do you want to fight. I desculated the situation by saying no I am out with my wife and child and not looking for a fight. I was happy that I managed to stop the situation but also my blood was boiling he put my wife and child at risk and frightened them I really wanted to get stuck in , its hard not to react but it can also cost you your life

Pick your battles my friend! The best SP of all, is to NOT be there! De-escalation comes in a very good second! Only ever fight if you are a cornered animal, under immediate threat or if the threat is directed to your loved ones! Now you have NO other choice, if there's no other choice, then what f##king choice have you got? Now fight like a vicious demon, until there is nothing left to fight about!

@@UrbanCombatives Thank you Lee, I have been watching Uraban combative videos for years and have learnt so much , deesculation was my main priority but if it had gone the other way especially with my family it would have been full animal mode. Reply and advice much appreciated.

I'm astounded at 2 things first how there always has to be something new for people to collect, that tells me that you don't understand the concept of less is more, which tells me you know fuck all. Second, where on earth you got the idea that I care a quarter gram of fuck about what you think? It's not for you? Don't watch simple! But don't big yourself so much that you think l care about what you think because I seriously don't! Lee M
