This always happens with Shins tracks - you listen to it for the first time and it's pretty good....a few days pass and you find you've played on repeat several thousand times. Bravo!

Oh my god... At 3 and 6 years old I had to leave the states again. My dad was also stationed at that RAF base they called Mildenhall (from 93-94 & 96-98). Incredibly weird coincidence considering The Shins are one of the influential bands that collectively made me to decide to pursue music. I had no idea that James had that sort of upbringing as well. #TheShins #JamesMercer #MusicGems

This one is my "i’ll think about it" song. Also love that he mention The Jesus & Mary chain, I discovered the band when I was his age, but in that was in 2005 ish when I was 15-16 years old. I know people always say this, but literally simpler times, in my case anyway.

Wow. This is fucking brilliant. Some of the best lyrics I have ever heard by James. Moving, simple, storytelling. A really nice window into his young life, that we can all sort of relate too. At least I can. And the steel drums during the chorus are fucking brilliant, what an odd but clever choice. Bravo.

Heartworms has grown on me more and more over the past year as I have listened to it again and again. Some of the songs may not be instantly catchy but give them time and you will be able to appreciate the craft at work here. Mildenhall, Fantasy Island, Heartworms, The Fear, Painting a Hole and Rubber Ballz are right amongst the band's bests.

If you're considering a Wes Anderson binge, don't forget "The Royal Tenenbaums" and "The Darjeeling Limited." They're both excellent and funny movies (Anderson's variety of funny). "Rushmore" is also a solid movie by him. "Bottle Rocket" is another quirky and amusing movie by Anderson (starring brothers Luke and Owen Wilson). I'm a big fan of Anderson and I like all of his movies as you might have already figured out.

Has a real folk style to it. The lyrics are ripped straight out of his youth, and tell the story of how he grew to love music. He sings in a lower register, which some people aren't used to, but he is reaching his late 40s, and hitting those high notes night after night becomes a task. I notice he switches to falsetto in more spots as he ages, instead of just belting out the high ones like the beginning of the song, kissing the lipless. How I truly hate time, and how things have to age..though it brings wisdom, it also waters down some of our brightest qualities.
