My great grandfather was a passenger on Carpathia when the SOS came in, he had dementia by the time I was of age to ask him anything about it, but one line I’ll never forget is “If only we had gotten there sooner”..mind you this man never said anything after the disease truly took hold, not even a yes or no. Somewhere deep in his soul was that 13 year old kid who still felt guilty. I still have a Titanic dinner program he picked up in a pile survivors were using to shed their freezing, drenched clothing, Rest In Peace to all those who were lost that fateful night.

@@SebTheMusician From what I was able to gather First Officer Horace Dean had ordered everyone be given fresh clothes (in this case pajamas) and blankets to warm up, Those who wanted to keep their clothes were given a cloth laundry bag, those who did not threw them in a pile on the bridge. Never did discover a concrete answer as to what became of it.

Incredible story, thank you for sharing. They say men wake up in the night to scratch legs that have been dust for 30 years. It is amazing what stays entrenched inside the human mind, despite so many decades and the loss of other mental faculties.

If another Hollywood Titanic movie is made, I hope they use this song for the end credits.

Are there words to this piece of poignant music?

I believe there are, I only remember the opening. “A big ship left port on her first maiden voyage, and Titanic was her name”
