After listening to these videos for so long, I've come to the conclusion that people never change. Crime in general has always been the same, whether it was 100, 150 or even 500 years ago. I just love these stories. As always, I look forward to the next video.

I am so happy Brief Case has sponsors. I know he would not show them unless they were helpful or fun. I really like having them at the beginning so I can listen and then enjoy and pay attention to the story. I think it is more respectful. Some Creators plunk a four minute sponsor right in the most interesting part. It really throws me out and kind of jars my enjoyment. If they just did like BC I would watch more stories. Fortunately I enjoy listening to old and new BC cases. Thank you. You work diligently to bring us intriguing cases.

I've got KZbin premium so I'm not bothered by excessively long ads that become even more obnoxious when your phone isn't moving. I've had ads of over forty minutes because of that. However I don't mind creators doing a sponsored ad because I know any residuals go directly to them unlike KZbin ads that still run even on demonetized content. Yes, KZbin still gets paid but that's the game.

I agree, it really throws the tempo off, if it's in the middle. When at the end, I'm already enthralled & don't want to listen, & just skip it, lol. Good placement at the beginning.

To be honest I do not mind a long ad at then end. I have terrible insomnia. BC's voice has often been the only thing to grant sleep. So I hope in return he gets something as the ads run out. He has been one of my longest subscribed channels. His stories are all new to me because of the time period he selects. They helped distract me too when my Mom was on Hospice and passed. Although they show a crime, I just find the stories always interesting.

I live in Wakefield which is basically 10 mins away from Leeds and I’m an avid true crime fan, especially crimes committed in the the early 20th century and before, and I’ve never heard of this crime, so it’s refreshing to hear about an old case like this so close to my home. Thanks brief case ☺️ xx

She's lucky after her release from prison she was able to move abroad for a fresh start. Her husband & children kept the door and their arms open for her. Moving abroad wouldn't be easy nowadays with a criminal record. Hopefully she turned her life around, became a good citizen, a good mother to her children and regretted all she had done in the past. I am curious to know how her life turned out

That girl seemed to find trouble no matter where or what she did. Did she commit the murder? Possibly, she did. It's so heartbreaking for the young man. Young and handsome as he was and to die so young. Back in the early 1900s alcohol was the cause of a lot of deaths. Of course it's worse in our day! We might not know what happened to her after she left the jail but hopefully she got to raise her children and was a better person. Thank you Brief Case for another incredible episode!!!!❤

I'd say she was definitely guilty and got away with murder. If she denied the robbery, for which her guilt was overwhelming, it's a certainty that she was also lying about the murder. One other thing worth a mention, James Richardson was drop-dead gorgeous! Wow.

Good morning Brief Case. This woman was a terrible liar and thief, how could someone obtain a dead mans personal belongings "innocently"? how does one do that?? Either way luck was on her side when she wound up not being charged for the murder. Whatever became of her after she came to America and was reunited with her family we will never know, but I do hope that she had learned her lesson and changed her ways for the better. This case certainly is a head scratcher, Did Mary just rob James Richardson( a very handsome young man, I must add), or did she rob and kill him? In my honest opinion, I didn't hear of Mary being accused of being a violent person just a drunk and a thief perhaps she accompanied James as a friendly ruse of helping him home in his drunken state only to rob him and once she got hold of his watch and other valuables she left him on his own and in his drunken state he may have accidently lost his footing and fell into the water drowning but that is just my opinion.
@rickynieves3144
@rickynieves3144 22 күн бұрын
He was killed before entering the water. She may have simply robbed him, since you are correct that she doesn't seem to have been especially violent. Someone else may have come across him and killed him in another attempt at robbery after she left him. What a shame. Poor man was so young 😢

@resarm5007
@resarm5007 Жыл бұрын
Considering today, even in America...the police do go banging on doors when certain crimes fit the MO of someone who is on the streets/not locked up. They question them. Repeat offenders...the police look them up. See if they have an alibi, etc. See if they sweat and self snitch. It really isn't any different today than it was back then. If they come get you, usually you're not free to leave. They don't call it arrest now when they question you unless they have strong evidence it was you. They WILL mirandize you if they have strong evidence/suspicions. it protects the info they collect from being thrown out in court. They detain you. Only people have fought for rights today. Things were different back then. They could arrest and jail you indefinitely. And they still can according to our laws (US). Theft was a serious crime. So was burglary, and robbery. Today it is looked upon with less scorn cuz most people will say they've done it (some kind of theft crime). I SUSPECT back then it was a way to keep track of people so they couldn't run. You have to understand people couldn't just BAIL OUT whenever they could afford to. So basically if you had a reputation for being a thief, you had a bullseye on your back every time the police were looking for a thief! Not much different today...people are willing to point fingers at other people with histories. You get a reputation. Today people hardly know their neighbors. Back then, nearly everybody knew who you were, especially your neighbors! Today we share some more "private" lives as people don't talk to each other and they also have more financial ability to secure another place to go to start over.

I love listening to your videos, they are fantastic but I have a request... I'm wondering if it's possible to add captions to the photos of people so we know if they are images of the actual people or not???... Most of the pictures do look old but I've notices some in other videos look modern staged.. I just find it fascinating seeing the actual people your telling the story about... Many thanks and best wishes from Nottingham... Xxx

Thanks for the feedback, if there is a name by the picture it is the person, if there is no name it either means I cannot verify it is actually the person or it is a time specific modern interpretation

This case was well beyond sublime. All your cases are fiendishly fascinating, but this one was so spectacular. I actually thought she would be sentenced to life in prison for her lifelong thievery. If she had indeed murdered that decent man, and gotten away with it, she may have committed more murders across the pond. Thank you, Mr. Brief Case, for sharing this stirring story!! You always make Mondays very special for your avid listeners!! You're an international treasure!!! Have a Marvellous Monday!!

Diligently researched and quaintly narrated. She took a mulligan on her first murder, which was a common Irish practice at the time. She either committed no more murders or committed them more skillfully. I hope America was good to her.
