Ah shit, here we go again. The most fun part of LiS is the theorizing and go absolutely bonkers. I remember those times with Geek Remix and theorizing that the old woman next to the diner was Max from alternate timeline.

A more likely theory is that Max, in the future, travels back in time to when Chloe was still alive, using her timeline jumps from Double Exposure. During this time, she might take on the identity of Rachel Amber and hang out in the past as Rachel. Then, when Max (as Rachel) realizes that her past self is returning to Arcadia Bay, she stages Rachel Amber’s death and goes back to her future timeline. Also, if you give Max longer hair, she starts to resemble Rachel Amber. And in the original Life is Strange, isn’t it interesting how Max was able to fit into Rachel’s clothes?”

I love that idea but when you think about it, in BTS, there was no sibling of Rachel. Let's say that they did it after Rachel's disappearance (2013) She would be 11 now as Double Exposure takes place in 2024 if I'm not mistaking. So yeah, age-wise, Loretta can't be Rachel's half sibling BUT she could be related to her like a cousin! 😀

Its a good possibility she could have faked her own death. Personally I don't think it is her. But I do like this theory. Anything is possible in this series. Especially in this game because it does involve two different parallel universes. One where Safi is dead and one where she's not. So you never know. It could be the same with other characters too.

Here is what I am thinking. Chloe said in the first game that Rachel’s parents are still in denial and have stopped looking for her. As we know, James had a lot of pull and power as the DA. What if he helped Rachel “Disappear” and she came under witness protection and thus moved to Vermont and now goes by Loretta Rice? I know it all sounds crazy, but anything could be possible in the LiS world.

This is my new headcannon! I don't think Deck 9 is that smart to think about this connections and nods to her character but I would really like it if it was true. Also, in adittion to all the coincidences, the fact that Rice is just Price without P stood out to me

About Loretta's name: If Loretta is just Rachel Amber and is trying to live with a new identity for whatever reason, maybe she came up with the name "Rich" because of Chloe's last name "Price"? Also, I came here thinking this theory about Rachel being Loretta would just be impossible. But after watching this video, I'm now second guessing myself 😅

The only similarity I see is them having the same hair colour, other than that, Loretta's facial features look nothing like Rachel's, and her personality is quite different too... I do see a possibility of her being related to Rachel though, maybe even her half-sister

While they do have somewhat similar features, I don’t think they’re close enough to suspect any correlation. I also think Amber and Loretta are extremely different personality wise, Rachel is very self serving and doesn’t really care about others unless they can do something for her, she also lies a lot and seems to be a social chameleon, wanting to be everyone’s best friend. Loretta seems to genuinely seek the truth in all situations, despite how off-putting that may be to others, and doesn’t mind crossing boundaries to find the answers to her questions.

That sounds like a change Rachel could've gone through. She was a very social teenager, that wanted to make herself be liked, who tries to show a deep and authentic personality(possibly because of the lack of meaningful deep connections she has with her family, especially her dad, because of his lies and personality). Her relationship with her dad could be seen as somewhat surface level and maybe, as she describes him, fake. Not to say he doesn't care for her. Therefore, 13(?) years later, in double exposure, she is now a grown woman who fights for the truth. She doesn't care if she makes people uncomfortable because she lived too long trying to please others. Also, another similarity, in BTS you can see her trying to get what she wants from people, being, some would say, manipulative. For example, in the tent before the Tempest and in the teather room in episode 1if I remember correctly. That is pretty similar to the way Loretta acts when she wants to interview Max. If max says no, she will be a bit pushy but with a sweet demeanour. As soon as Max agrees to the interview, she asks uncomfortable questions, while having a certain look in her eyes, a look that makes you feel watched, observed as if she's trying to control you. She talks in the same way Rachel does in the instances I mentioned in BTS, slowly and assertive, but with a tone of voice that makes her sound sure of what she's doing. Anyways, I guess we'll find out in a week, when the full game releases. I think both yours and mine point of views can be true :)

You have a very good theory and I totally understand what you're saying! I think it has a good chance of being true! It is strange though how the colour blue and that Loretta poster could be such a big clue and how double exposure is a direct sequel to the original.

Great catch with your "masked masks" theory. Of all the times I've played BtS, I've never consciously noticed those. And I think you're right on the money. I do have a different take with Rachel's junkyard question though. I very much get the sense that she was asking about her dad, and that she doesn't, at least not yet, realize that the question applies to her, too. All things considered, I love that Loretta strongly resembles Rachel, and I'd love for Rachel to come back in the game somehow. What, exactly, DE has in store for us though is anyone's guess at this point. Maybe they made Loretta to resemble Rachel on purpose just to get people speculating with the specific aim of not having it mean anything. Of course, dealing with alternate timelines now means that maybe we're not even playing "our Max" from LiS1. So maybe the entire game so far takes place in an alternate universe where Rachel never died, but had to go into hiding because Frank never killed Damon Merrick, so he's reinvented herself as Loretta? The possibilities are literally endless.

My problem with this is we know Rachel’s fate(SPOILERS) they found a body, they can test for that. I wonder if it’s maybe like Rachel’s soul latched to Loretta’s? Reincarnation? But Loretta would still be alive and a child during LiS 1 so maybe not?. I mean in a world of rewind, telekinesis, emotional manipulation and other things, I wonder if it’s possible.

Honestly, anything is possible at this point. I feel this is what has always fueled this fanbase. But I 100% agree with you on Rachel's fate from the canon timeline. My theory is only concentrating on an alternate timeline. I mean we have all of the comics that have Rachel very much alive as that's an alternate timeline in itself. I just find it all so fascinating!

I feel like LiS DE is in a different timeline solely because of what the game is like if you choose to break up with Chloe, the explanation and all of it makes no sense. So if that's true, then it could be possible Rachel lived if it's a different timeline.

I don't think Loretta is the reincarnation of Rachel. Rachel died in 2013, in DE it's December 2023, so it means that this game is 10 years later after first LiS. If Rachel really reincarnated, she could be 10 years old at that time, and that's a child, not a teenager, not a young adult. Plus Loretta is an undergraduate student in the 2nd grade as it was written on Max's notes on the phone, so it means Loretta is 19 years old.

Well we already saw alternate universe Max so it kind of would make sense considering based on what it seems like this game is doing, opening a portal to other dimensions and alternate versions of people that Loretta could in fact actually be Rachel. In the alternate universe now one that can apparently cross over between realities, it could just be Rachel didn't die in Arcadia Bay and just left like Chloe and everyone else wanted to believe. And we know, or "seems like" Rachel had some sort of powers. So it's a really good possibility that Rachel is Loretta. I'm kind of thinking they might go with that but I guess we'll have to see in a couple days.

This is very interesting theory. Maybe Rachel could be in different timeline , however it does raises question about Max. Does Max also have alternative Max from LIS 1? Could it mean that if theres alternative Max means theres alternative Rachel , Chloe and others 🤔 Its seems trouble for me.

It has been confirmed that each time Max rewinds, she creates an alternative timeline by leaving a version of herself in that timeline, and her "soul" is then "possessing" her body from the past in the previous timeline. You can even speak with one of the Max that she left behind during the nightmare in the 1st game. I haven't played the new game yet, I'm still waiting for the release of all chapters, I'm still avoiding spoilers too, But I do believe that in the new game there is 2 Max too since she can only travel in 2 different timelines now

I mean it wouldn't surprise me, since alternative timeline will have different choices, so in reality.. Rachel could be somewhere else alive? She could have been with another family, new name etc. And thus her personality could have been changed a bit, but still *same* person. I've always loved and enjoyed these theories haha

I can totally see the new identity theory in a timeline where she lives and escapes people who are after her. We already know she can “rub people the wrong way” sometimes (she started a forest fire, hit a druglord with a wood beam, and got stabbed by that same druglord who also tried to kill her mom and Chloe just within the first few days of knowing her), and got into some serious trouble with Mr. Jefferson and the Prescotts, prominent and well respected figures in their universe who can find a way to cover up and get away with anything, including Nathan bringing a gun to school..and depending on the timeline, killing Chloe with that gun. Jefferson also shoots and kills Chloe when he kidnaps Max right after they are sure they found Rachel. What if Rachel had to fake her death and start a new life with a different identity to protect herself, her family, and Chloe, and choosing the name of a character she played in a play she loved? I could see her choosing a leading lady she resonated with, such as Loretta, from that play..and using Chloe’s last name, minus one letter to not appear to have an obvious connection to Chloe for protection. If that’s not Rachel, Loretta is definitely supposed to remind us of Rachel for a reason.

@@itskitactually me too! This game definitely does get the mind going. I spent hours playing each chapter of LIS and Before the Storm scrutinizing every detail to find clues and Easter Eggs. In Before the Storm..there is an eerie Easter Egg when Chloe is at the junkyard the evening she first hangs out with Rachel and Rachel gets upset and leaves. As Chloe is exploring the junkyard she comes across a boat, there are a few different choices you can make. One of them is graffitiing “Buried Treasure” with a treasure map that shows the treasure marked where Rachel’s body was found 3 years later. Also in the flashback of Max and Chloe digging up the buried treasure in Chloe’s back yard..their positioning and camera angle is eerily similar to when they dug in the ground to find Rachel. Made all the hairs on my body stand up. I absolutely enjoyed watching your video and diving into the theories with you. Thank you! 😊 🫶🏼

Ashly Burch was Chloe's original VA. She didn't reprise the role in BTS because of the strikes that were happening during the time of recording.

Rachel died in the first game. Kiefer sutherland did take over the role of snake, but the snake he played was not a true snake - it was a fake - so sutherland playing venom was a little twist/wink. Rachel would be about 30 by the time of Double Exposure - Loretta is a student. Rachel is the character that struggles to find purpose in life. It's why she gets with Jefferson. If she was in double exposure, the most obvious answer would be Safi. Rachel is an actress, she plays many roles. Safi is a teacher, probably putting her in her late 20s. + plenty more reasons that would require spoiling. _(I don't believe rachel is Safi, i'm just suggesting someone that fits this conspiracy better)_

I don’t necessarily believe this theory, but I think it’s interesting and I’m open to it. Loretta’s sensationalization of true crime topics on her podcast is the complete opposite of how Rachel’s disappearance was handled. I also see a lot of people use age as a reasoning of why Loretta “can’t” be Rachel, but let’s keep in mind that age doesn’t necessarily equate to level in post-secondary education. Fun video!

I really don't want it to be her. The tragedy and mystery of Chloe and Rachel's story just wouldn't be there anymore. But I'd love to have Kylie return as Rachel in another spin off game or even new roles. She's so good. Also Rachel wouldn't be caught dead in that outfit.
